Characterization of Personal Clothing Worn by Pesticide Sprayers in Foumbot Agricultural Area (Cameroon)

Personal protective equipment is intended to protect worker from risks that cannot be eliminated for more effective safety. This study was aimed at evaluating the type of cloth worn by pesticide users in Foumbot agricultural area (West Region of Cameroon) and to identify signs and symptoms related to pesticides effects on human health. A survey was conducted on seventy (70) farmers randomly selected using a questionnaire made up of closed and opened questions. Specimens of cloth were collected, identified and analyzed for the water and vapor absorbency and permeability. The identification was done by burning and solubility tests. Results showed that no farmer used adequate protective clothing, they all presented many pesticide-related signs and symptoms such as dizziness, skin irritation, eye-watering and breathing difficulties;the permeation of clothes that they wear is high with high vapor and water absorbency capacity;they were made up with Cotton fiber, blended cotton fibre, wool, polyester and polyethylene;a local laminated fabric manufactured with Tri-acetate fiber was identified with great capacity of protection. This study raised inappropriate characteristics of protective materials used by farmers in Foumbot agricultural area. However, a local fabric was identified to have been adapted to pesticide applications and may be promoted after further study on the comfortability.

The farm vehicle combined switch(VCS)being multifunctional and irregular,the evaluations for them have been difficult problems,which has gotten VCS manufacturers and their users into *** some of their users have still been evaluated VCS with the hand touch-feeling *** order to make the evaluation more scientific,an integrated test facility,which have three kinds of bionic robot hands(twist,push and draw-out type),and its evaluation mothed were developed for ***,some tests,which consisted of subjective tests(experts hand touch-feeling)and objective machine tests,were made to examine this *** aim of the tests was to grade the same kind of VCS products among three different *** comprehensive analysis,a conclusion can be obtained that there is a significant correlation between the subjective expert method and objective machine one in the VCS *** regard to machine one,the contributions of the parameters such as the shifting force,inflection force and effective shifting time to the evaluation of VCS are *** machine evaluation technique can be used to describe and grade the quality of VCS products,and ultimately examine their material,process and assembly,which can be a useful method for authorities who make decisions during production,sourcing/buying as well as design of VCS.

The healthcare needs of developing countries are great and ever increasing as their populations grow. Few assistance programs have recognized the value of the bio-medical engineer as part of the approach to the provision of healthcare in developing countries. An example of a program, the Bach Mai Hospital Project, in Vietnam, utilizing the talents of the bio-medical engineer, attests to the potential value of bio-medical engineers as part of the healthcare team. Their inclusion in such efforts can result in the saving of lives, time and money. Knowledge of their hospital's excess equipment inventory and their ability to restore medical equipment badly needed in a developing country makes them valuable additions to any medical assistance program.

Introduction: Laparoscopy-assisted gastrectomy (LAG) for early gastric cancer (EGC) was considered as a treatment with many advantages due to the application of laparoscopic equipment. The aim of this study was to compare the effect of use of laparoscopic equipment in blood loss, the number of harvested lymph nodes (HLNs), and complications between LAG and open gastrectomy (OG) for EGC. Methods: Patients received surgical treatment for early distal gastric cancer (EDGC) were retrospectively reviewed. Patients were classified into three groups by different operation methods: traditional open distal gastrectomy (ODG) group, laparoscopy-assisted distal gastrectomy (LADG) group, and open distal gastrectomy with assistance of laparoscopic equipment (ODGA) group. Results: Altogether 65 patients with EDGC received surgical treatment, including 20 cases of ODG, 22 of LADG, and 23 of ODGA. No lymph node metastasis was found in all patients. 25 (38.5%) postoperative confirmed T2 were misdiagnosed as T1 preoperatively. Compared with ODG group, the blood loss was significantly reduced in LADG and ODGA groups (106.4 ± 46.0;and 73.3 ± 35.7 ml vs. 250.5 ± 65.1 ml respectively;P 0.01), but the operation time was significantly longer in these groups (231.0 ± 34.5, and 222.5 ± 42.6 min vs. 128.5 ± 22.3 min respectively;P 0.01). No difference was found in the blood loss, operation time, the number of harvested lymph nodes and the types of gastrointestinal continuity reconstruction between LADG and ODGA groups. No difference was found in the postoperative complications among the three groups. Conclusions: Laparoscopic equipment might be the key factor in the reduction of blood loss and the delay of operation time for LADG. Application of laparoscopic equipment in open gastrectomy can be used as a training method to shorten learning curve for LAG beginners.

The development process of high-voltage electric power equipment maintenance was introduced. It is pointed out that the trend of high-voltage electric power equipment maintenance is so called condition-based maintenance. With the development of computer technology and sensors, on-line monitoring of high-voltage electric power equipment has developed rapidly. By introducing the main principle of Schering bridge to measure tanδ, the way of on-line monitoring of high-voltage electric power equipment was explained. Difference methods of on-line monitoring of insulation parameters for 35 kV substation were discussed. Finally, the shortcomings as well as its tendency of on-line monitoring were analyzed.

Compressed air is an integral utility part of industrial utility systems. Any improvement in compressed air system will lead to reduction in utility cost. The effectiveness of utilization side of compressed air is usually dependent upon operator’s discretion. There are no performance testing methods available for testing existing end use equipments. A test apparatus for estimation of compressed air flow based on measurement of pressure reduction in a fixed volume cylinder in a given time is developed. The test apparatus is easy to build and simple to operate in an industrial environment. This can be used for measuring performance of any pneumatic end-use equipment and for benchmarking the performance. The test apparatus was used in a foundry for quantifying the performance of the old and new blow guns.

A 50-year-old woman with a maxillary giant cell tumor had primary hyperparathyroidism from a mediastinal parathyroid adenoma. Computed tomography showed a mildly enhanced, oval soft tissue nodule (2.5 × 1.5 × 1.7 cm) at the anterosuperior mediastinum. Mediastinal parathyroidectomy was performed with a 3-arm surgical robot. After surgery, the plasma parathyroid hormone level decreased markedly (before surgery, 70.5 pg/ml;after surgery, 5.5 pg/ml;normal reference range, 1.6 to 6.9 pg/ml). The 3-dimensional visualization, high-dexterity, and full range of motion of the robotic system provided an efficient and safe surgical procedure for the mediastinal tumor. The purpose of this case study is to show the feasibility and effectiveness of robot assisted dissection for mediastinal parathyroid gland and to demonstrate the giant cell tumor of the bone can regress after resection of parathyroid adenoma.
