The United States has a long-term goal to reduce 50%of energy usage in buildings based on 2010 consumption *** energy efficiency is often measured by laboratory experiments and computational ***,there is little to no quantifiable evidence showing the extent of energy efficiency homes can achieve within the larger context of green building *** objective of this research is to identify actual home energy performance as an effect of green building technolo-gies by comparing energy use from real-world observations and energy *** indicate a significant reduction of energy consumption at 43.7%per unit or 43.4%per square foot(i.e.,0.093 m^(2))and substantial financial savings at$628.4 per unit or$0.80 per square foot(i.e.,$8.6 per m^(2))*** account for 2%of median annual household income or 46%of energy cost expenditures for an American *** also identify the construction type as a significant factor,yet building technology is not the only factor influencing a home’s energy *** findings contribute to the body of knowledge in three aspects:(1)simulated energy usage is higher than actual energy usage;(2)energy modeling via simulation tools is particularly accurate for new construction;and(3)energy modeling,especially for existing buildings,is not accurate due to largely varying occupant behaviors.

Along with the improvement of social productivity and living standard,residential buildings generate a growing portion of carbon emissions,especially during the operation ***,energy use behaviors are usually ignored in carbon emission *** study focuses on calculating carbon emissions during the operation stage for residential buildings based on the characteristics of energy use behaviors in different ***,we investigated energy use behaviors in dwellings across three cities in China:Xi'an,Shanghai and ***,we established calibrated carbon emission models and optimization models with different green building measures for residential *** results of this research reveal a significant disparity between the energy usage habits of residents in different climate *** carbon emissions of residential electricity bills in Xi'an,Shanghai and Fuzhou are 13.6 kgCO_(2)/(m^(2)·a)(excluding central heating),29.3 kgCO_(2)/(m^(2)·a)and 17.2 kgCO_(2)/(m^(2)·a),*** carbon emissions account for 32.2%-64.1% of the *** comparison to the model based on internal standard setting,the accuracy of the models using actual internal has improved by 25.9%-37.4%.The three-star green building methods have the highest carbon reduction rate among different star buildings,the emission reduction rates are around 30%.This study's findings are useful for carbon emission calculation and green building design of residential buildings in the future.

energy simulation is a valuable tool for evaluating and improving the thermal performance and energy efficiency of buildings during the design *** evaluation methods are thermal load(TL),degree-hour(DH),and design days(DD).The choice of method and its settings may vary depending on regional factors and researchers’preferences,leading to diverse and often incompatible metrics and ***,this study aims to investigate the influence of these evaluation methods on the assessment of buildings’performance and,consequently,on design *** this purpose,this study compared the results of the 3 evaluation methods and different settings for 3 different wall systems,4 ranges of comfort temperature,and 2 residential models located in the 8 Brazilian bioclimatic *** result,the best and worst wall systems varied depending on the evaluation method and the threshold/setpoint temperature range *** regions showed greater variability in the *** noticed that it is not possible to compare and interpret results from different evaluation methods,and that the variation of only 1℃in the setpoint temperatures can lead to entirely different practices being considered the best for a given building *** conclusion,the most suitable evaluation method is the one that best portrays the operation and dynamic reality of the building to be designed,and building regulations and standards can occasionally lead to unrealistic assessments.

Nowadays,building energy models(BEMs)are widely used,particularly in the assessment of energy consumption in buildings to address the potential savings that can be *** realisation of a dynamic energy model based on high-fidelity physics(white-box models)requires a tuning process to fit the model to reality,due to many uncertainties *** some research trends try to reduce this performance gap by modulating different types of experimental parameters such as:capacitances or *** energyPlus simulation software,in its latest versions,has implemented an object:HybridModel:Zone that calculates the infiltration and internal mass of buildings using an inverse modelling approach that employs only the measured indoor temperature data to invert the heat balance equation for the zone under *** main objective of this paper is to reduce the execution time and uncertainties in the development of quality energy models by generating a new calibration methodology that implements this *** uses,as a starting point,a research created by the authors of this study,which was empirically and comparatively validated against the energy models developed by the participants in Annex *** is also worth highlighting the empirical validation of the HybridModel:Zone object,since it was activated in all scenarios where its execution is possible:periods of seven days or more of free oscillation and periods in which the building is under *** findings are *** data generated with the new methodology,if compared with those produced by the baseline model,improve their resemblance to the real ones by 22.9%.While those of its predecessor did it by 15.6%.For this study,the two dwellings foreseen in Annex 58 of the IEA ECB project have been modelled and their real monitoring data have been used.

The building sector is one of the main energy-consuming sectors in *** fact,it accounts for 33%of the final consumption of energy and records a high increase in the annual consumption of energy caused by further planned large-scale ***,the energy consumption of the building sector is experiencing a significant acceleration justified by the rapid need for the development of housing stock,wich is estimated at an average increase of 1,5%per year;furthermore,tant is an estimated increase of about 6,4%.In this sense,building constitutes an important potential source for rationalizing both energy consumption and energy savings through the adoption of energy efficiency *** consumption control efforts in the residential building sector involve socio-economic,technological,and environmental concerns that require sophisticated ***,different types of quantitative models have been developed and examined so as to find a solution for the optimizing energy *** this work,we have highlighted the importance of using solar heaters to reduce energy demand in terms of the use of domestic hot *** do this,we have defined the needs and characteristics of a solar installation of a residential building located in Casablanca through a calculating tool“SOLO 2000”in addition to the use of multiple linear regression analysis to deduct the impact of irradiation and solar contributions on the energy demand of the solar installation.

Applying energy-saving measures in residential buildings is usually constrained by the increase of initial investment. ＂However, if it is analyzed from the view of energy cost and life-cycle cost, the energy-saving benefit can offset ~he increase of initial investment. An analysis method based on life-cycle concept was developed to calcu- late the energy cost of residential building flats. Several uncertain factors were included into the model, making it more accurate to reflect practical situation. The model was solved using the software DeST and applied to one resi- dential building project in Shanghai. The case study shows that the initial investment （cost） is paid back during the operational phase through less consumption of energy. It further indicates that the investment recovery period is between 10 and 19 years which are acceptable to households and developers in China.

In order to reduce the increasing energy consumption for the domestic demands of existing single-family housing and take advantage of frequent building enlargements,this paper presents a methodology and supporting software tool for determining the optimal design configuration of an attic with integrated solar *** analysis procedure is based on parametric modeling,energy simulation and the use of evolutionary algorithms for finding optimal *** has been implemented as a Web-platform for public use that provides users with a proposal of an attic shape with maximum solar energy collection,maximum living space and minimum construc-tion envelope for each house according its size and *** attic integrates PV,thermal and hybrid solar panels on one side of the *** paper describes the methodology and software design,asssment of the Web-platform usage and case-studies to verify its *** a matter of minutes,the Web-platform enables users to select a specific attic design for each house that has integrated solar collectors that can produce energy to cover almost 100%of domestic energy *** attics designed provide a nearly 30%increase in living space through the extension of one to four rooms,and the construction cost of the envelope is similar to that of a standard housing extension.

The objective of this study is to identify cost-optimal efficiency packages at several levels of building energy savings.A two-story residential building located in Jordan is selected as a case *** software is used to predict the annual energy usage of a twostory residence in Irbid,***-time experimental data from a single isolated controlled room was used to verify the proposed *** addition to energy analysis,the economic,environmental,and social benefits of the proposed design have been *** sequential search optimization approach is used to estimate the minimum cost of the building while considering various design *** addition,the impact of various energy conservation techniques on residential buildings is assessed,and the payback period for each program is ***,the optimal combination of design to achieve energy efficiency measures has been identified in several climate *** simulations results predict that the annual electricity consumption can be reduced up to 50%if the proper combinations of energy conservation measures are selected at the lowest *** payback period is 9.3 ***,energy efficiency measures can lead to a total of 9470 jobs/year job *** study provide practical framework to link between energy performance criteria and economic goals of *** the energy performance requirements to economic targets provides guidelines for homeowners,contractors,and policymakers for making a suitable decision regarding the retrofitting of existing residential *** study focuses on developing new methodologies that support minimizing costs during a building’s lifecycle while maximizing environmental benefits which can not be identified by a series of parametric analyses using individual energy-efficient measures.

While the energy efficiency of commercial buildings,schools,and private homes has received increasing attention,the energy performance of public housing has long been *** high energy usage and resulting utility costs associated with such subsidized houses have added great financial burdens to the government and ***,improving public housing’s energy performance becomes an important *** paper presents a comparative study that mainly investigates the effectiveness of energy efficiency measures(EEMs)recently implemented in the Columbus Metropolitan Housing Authority’s green renovation *** building energy simulation results show that due to budget constraints,the limited EEMs put into place would only result in a marginal(7.6%)improvement to the renovated building’s energy performance prior to *** 38.5%reduction would be needed,using the performance requirement of the current building energy code as a *** on these findings,this research offers some insights into more cost-effective energy efficiency upgrades that can help reduce public housing’s energy consumption and green renovation costs.
