In situ thermal desorption(ISTD)technology effectively remediates soil contaminated by dense nonaqueous phase liquids(DNAPLs).However,more efforts are required to minimize the energy consumption of ISTD *** study developed a laboratory-scale experimental device to explore the coupling merits of two traditional desorption technologies:steam-enhanced extraction(SEE)and electrical resistance heating(ERH).The results showed that injecting high-density steam(>1 g/min)into loam or clay with relatively high moisture content(>13.3%)could fracture the soil matrix and lead to the occurrence of the preferential flow of *** ERH alone,the electrical resistance and soil moisture loss were critical factors influencing heating *** ERH and SEE were combined,preheating soil by ERH could increase soil permeability,effectively alleviating the problem of preferential flow of ***,steam injection heated the soil and provided moisture for maintaining soil electrical conductivity,thereby ensuring power stability in the ERH *** with ERH alone(8 V/cm)and SEE alone(1 g/min steam),the energy consumption of combined method in remediating perchloroethylene-contaminated soil was reduced by 39.3%and 52.9%,*** findings indicate that the combined method is more favorable than ERH or SEE alone for remediating DNAPL-contaminated subsurfaces when considering ISTD technology.

Over the past years, wireless sensor systems have picked up a global consideration from both the researchers and the genuine clients. It includes a large number of sensing devices, some computing techniques and communication with limited power supplies and processing abilities which collectively work to fulfill a large sensing task. IEEE 802.15.4/ZigBee based Wireless Sensor Networks raise a few issues like energy Scavenging for the limited power supply. Accordingly good functioning of such system relies upon energies of the wireless motes. This paper presents two analytical models which demonstrate and predict the QoS in terms of throughput, jitter, average end-to-end delay and energy consumption. These two distinct network models based on IEEE 802.15.4 are cluster-based and grid-based, and are simulated using QualNet v 6.1 Simulator.

There are several ways to increase the efficiency of energy consumption and to decrease energy consumption. In this paper. the application of pinch technology in analysis of the heat exchangers network （HEN） in order to reduce the energy consumption in a thermal system is studied. Therefore, in this grass root design, the optimum value of △Tmin, is obtained about 10℃and area efficiency （a） is 0.95. The author also depicted the grid diagram and driving force plot for additional analysis. In order to increase the amount of energy saving, heat transfer from above to below the pinch point in the diagnosis stage is verified for all options including re-sequencing, re-piping, add heat exchanger and splitting of the flows. Results show that this network has a low potential of retrofit to decrease the energy consumption, which pinch principles are planned to optimize energy consumption of the unit. Regarding the results of pinch analysis, it is suggested that in order to reduce the energy consumption, no alternative changes in the heat exchangers network of the unit is required. The acquired results show that the constancy of network is completely confirmed by the high area efficiency infirmity of the heat exchanger to pass the pinch point and from of deriving force plot.

This article used the Cluster analysis of statistical method to separate China＇s 30 provinces and municipalities into three categories according to their energy consumption discrepancies and characteristics from 1985 to 2007. The categories were high, moderate and low energy consumption areas and they had significant differences in energy consumption. Based on this classification, the authors analyzed the influencing factors of energy consumption in the three areas by means of panel data econometric model. The results showed that the influencing factors were obviously different. In order to support national goal of energy conservation and emission reduction, the energy measures and policies should be distinctly taken.

With the rapid development of rural tourism in China, more and more rural households operate a rural tourism business. The purpose of this study is to understand the energy consumption characteristic of ordinary rural households (ORHs) and rural tourism households (RTHs) in the mountainous area and islands area in Zhejiang province. 225 households were surveyed, including 185 ORHs and 40 RTHs, based on a field survey in Quzhou (mountainous area) and Zhoushan (islands area). Results reveal that energy consumption of ORHs is low, but energy comsumption of RTHs is high, about 3 to 5 times higher than that of ORHs. Given the results, the government and RTHs should pay more attention to take measures to reduce energy comsumption. Meanwhile, the factors affecting households’ energy consumption are also analyzed. energy consumption of ORHs is affected by frequently used area, family income level and permanent population. Then energy consumption of RTHs is mainly related to the total building area, number of air conditioner (AC), number of guestrooms and family income level.

In this study, in order to investigate the power consumption of feed drive system, mathematical models for the single-axis experimental apparatus are developed. This apparatus can be driven by either of ball screw or linear motor and it is possible to change the mechanical properties of such as grease viscosity of the table. Then, the power consumption is simulated by proposed method based on the mathematical model of feed drive systems and the simulated results are compared with the measured results of the experimental apparatus to confirm the validity of the proposed method. In addition, it is clarified that the energy usages of the feed drive system. The energy losses of the feed drive system are divided into the loss of each part and these energy losses are calculated by the proposed method. Then, it is investigated that the influence of the velocity and friction to the energy consumption of feed drive system. As the results, it is confirmed that proposed method can accurately predict the power consumption of the ball-screw feed drive system. It is also clarified that the energy usage for both of ball-screw and linear motor drive systems.

Impact of Climate Change on energy consumption in North China

Based on the daily meteorological data with preliminary quality-control from 94 meteorological stations in North China during 1961 -2009, the impact of climate change on energy consumption in North China was analyzed by calculating heating and cooling degree-day. It＇s shown that the heating degree-days （HDDs） in most areas of North China reduced obviously during 1961 -2009. The heating energy consumption tended to decrease with temperature rising and the reduction rate in the northern region was greater than that in the southern region. The cooling degree-days （CDDs） in most areas of North China in summer tended to increase. Besides the west of Inner Mongolia, the regions where the CDDs increased significantly in North China corresponded to the urban agglomerations of Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei and Shanxi. The rise in temperature made the cooling energy consumption increase greatly in most areas of North China in summer. The result from future climate projection reveals that the HDDs in most areas of North China will reduce persistently and the reduction rate in the northern region is also higher than that in the southern region. Simul- taneously, the CDDs in most areas of North China in summer will continue to increase. The increasing rate in the southern region is higher than that in the northern region, and the most obviously increasing regions are located in the west of Inner Mongolia, Beijing, Tianjin, middle-southern region of Hebei, and south of Shanxi. This reveals that the cooling energy consumption in most areas of North China in summer will significantly increase due to climate warming.

Currently, environmental consideration becomes the most important issue in biodiesel production. The objective of this study is to evaluate environmental impact of biodiesel production using catalyst from crude palm oil in Aceh province. The results of this study show that biodiesel production from oil palm have differend resulted which is depent on various of material inputs. The environmental impact and energy consumption due to pre-harvest activity was higher compared to post harvest activity. The characteristics of Greenhouse Gas （GHG） emission value before stable productivity is 2.30-2.56 kg-CO2 eq./kg-Biodiesel Fuel from Crude Palm Oil （BDF-CPO）. When the productivity has reached stability, the GHG value is 1.66-1.71 kg-CO2 eq./kg-BDF-CPO. The total value of energy consumption before stable production is 46.31-49.83 MJ/kg-BDF-CPO. Utilization of agrochemical in form of fertilizer and plant protection generate significant contribution to environmental impact of biodiesel production from Crude Palm Oil （CPO） is 50.46% for scenario I and 68.14% for scenario 2. The combination reduction of CO2 eq. emission values of before and after stable production for BDF-CPO is 37.83% for scenario 1 and 49.96% for scenario 2.
