Based on analysis of the theoretical impact of energy consumption on air quality,taking 20 heavily polluted cities in the Yangtze River Delta of China as the object,we construct a Spatial Dubin Model,and estimate the effect of energy consumption on air quality and the spatial spillover effects of air *** come to the following conclusions:First,the regional air quality has significant spatial dependence and spatial ***,under three kinds of spatial associated mode,energy consumption has a negative impact on air quality,and the air pollution arising from energy consumption has a negative intra-regional spillover *** effect is strongest under the spatial distance weight matrix,followed by the economic distance,and the adjacent spatial weight matrix,which are−0.7926,−0.4547,and−0.4539,***,in addition,under the adjacent space and economic distance space matrix,energy consumption has a significant negative effect on air quality,and the inter-regional spillover effects are−0.1513 and−2.5736,***,considering spatial distance and economic development,the inter-regional spillover effect is much larger than is the intra-regional spillover *** general,the total spillover effect is at−0.6053 and−3.0284.

The traditional production planning and scheduling problems consider performance indicators like time, cost and quality as optimization objectives in manufacturing processes. However, environmentally-friendly factors like energy consumption of production have not been completely taken into consideration. Against this background, this paper addresses an approach to modify a given schedule generated by a production plarming and scheduling system in a job shop floor, where machine tools can work at different cutting speeds. It can adjust the cutting speeds of the operations while keeping the original assignment and processing sequence of operations of each job fixed in order to obtain energy savings. First, the proposed approach, based on a mixed integer programming mathematical model, changes the total idle time of the given schedule to minimize energy consumption in the job shop floor while accepting the optimal solution of the scheduling objective, makespan. Then, a genetic-simulated annealing algorithm is used to explore the optimal solution due to the fact that the problem is strongly NP-hard. Finally, the effectiveness of the approach is performed small- and large-size instances, respectively. The experimental results show that the approach can save 5%-10% of the average energy consumption while accepting the optimal solution of the makespan in small-size instances. In addition, the average maximum energy saving ratio can reach to 13%. And it can save approximately 1%-4% of the average energy consumption and approximately 2.4% of the average maximum energy while accepting the near-optimal solution of the makespan in large-size instances. The proposed research provides an interesting point to explore an energy-aware schedule optimization for a traditional production planning and scheduling problem.

The increase of electrical resistance(ER)and energy consumption(EC)during the later stage of dewatering is a major problem hindering the development of electro-dewatering(EDW)*** the variations of sludge characteristics are significant during the EDW process,the relationships between sludge characteristics and ER and EC during EDW remain *** this study,the effects of moisture content(MC),thickness,pH,conductivity,zeta potential,temperature,and gas volume on the ER and EC during the EDW process were statistically investigated using correlation and multiple linear regression ***,the results showed that the ER of the sludge near the anode was primarily affected by pH,whereas the sludge near the cathode was primarily affected by the MC and ***,sludge temperature and conductivity were the most reliable indicators to predict the EC near the anode and cathode,*** results of this study provide theoretical guidance useful for solving the increase of ER and EC during the later stage of the EDW process.

A hierarchical structural decomposition analysis(SDA) model has been developed based on process-level input-output(I-O) tables to analyze the drivers of energy consumption changes in an integrated steel plant during 2011-2013. By combining the principle of hierarchical decomposition into D&L method, a hierarchical decomposition model for multilevel SDA is obtained. The developed hierarchical IO-SDA model would provide consistent results and need less computation effort compared with the traditional SDA model. The decomposition results of the steel plant suggest that the technology improvement and reduced steel final demand are two major reasons for declined total energy consumption. The technical improvements of blast furnaces, basic oxygen furnaces, the power plant and the by-products utilization level have contributed mostly in reducing energy consumption. A major retrofit of ancillary process units and solving fuel substitution problem in the sinter plant and blast furnace are important for further energy saving. Besides the empirical results, this work also discussed that why and how hierarchical SDA can be applied in a process-level decomposition analysis of aggregated indicators.

Climate change can adversely impact the thermal comfort and energy efficiency of the buildings stock. The South Asian countries are particularly vulnerable to the adverse impacts of climate change specially in the form of rising temperatures and increasing frequency of heat waves. The passive building design measures can be useful in mitigating and adapting to the climate change by increasing energy efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. In this study various passive climate change adaptation measures (PCAMs) have been used individually and in form of combinations in order to analyze their impact on the energy efficacy of residential buildings in Pakistan. It has been found that the natural ventilation and front green wall are the most efficient options for reducing the overall energy consumption. By implementation of these PCAMs, cooling demand can be decreased by 27.75% while heating demand can be reduced by 35%. Secondly, the prospect of net zero-energy building and reduced CO2 emissions are also studied. It has been shown that building can achieve net-zero energy on an annual basis at every orientation and it can attain the status of nearly zero-energy building on a monthly basis. Moreover, emitted CO2 can be reduced by 31% by using the renewable energy.

The world energy demand is increasing due to rapid growth in the global economy,industrialization,and *** is also confronted with increasing energy demand on one hand and is confronted with the challenge of energy demand-supply gap on the other *** energy is the major driver for growth,it becomes important to investigate the trends of energy consumption in a country and the factors that are most affecting the changes in the use of *** particular study aims to investigate the use of energy by all the economic sectors of Pakistan during 2000–*** major contribution is the first time application of structural decomposition analysi for energy usage along with using Input-Output data for the period of 2002–*** results show the fluctuation of the energy intensity of the sectors throughout the study ***,the overall effect of energy intensity is negative on energy consumption and it shows a negative contribution value of-80.90%for the study ***,the focus on more energy-intensive products like cement,automobiles,iron,steel products and the increasing final demand of the economy contributes to the growth of energy consumption in Pakistan during 2000–2012.

In countries suffering from heavy ambient air pollution,ventilation is a problem,as ventilation intakes outdoor air pollutants,such as particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter less than 2.5 μm(PM_(2.5)),while removing indoor air ***,it is important to identify appropriate ventilation-purification strategies to build healthy indoor environments with low energy *** study reports the comparison of two sets of strategies,i.e.,mechanical ventilation with filters and natural ventilation with indoor air cleaners,in respect to energy consumption and the PMzs and carbon dioxide(CO_(2))exposure of occupants in a typical apartment in Beijing,China.A dynamic mass balance model was employed to calculate the PM2.5 and CO_(2) exposure concentrations,while the energy consumption of heating and cooling was simulated with the Designer's Simulation *** was found that natural ventilation with air cleaners provided lower PIVhs exposure compared with that of mechanical ventilation with filters;however,mechanical ventilation achieved a lower CO_(2) exposure *** annual cooling,heating,and fan energy consumption of natural ventilation strategies are lower than those of mechanical ventilation *** respect to natural ventilation,an infiltration rate of 0.3-0.4 h^(-1)was the preferred setting,which led to low PM23 and CO_(2) exposure with lower energy *** basic requirements for controlling indoor PM2.5 could be met if the threshold is set at 25 pg/*** results provide guidelines on how to combine multiple ventilation purification strategies to improve indoor air quality with lower energy usage.

From the viewpoint of systems energy conservation, the influences of material flow on its energy consumption in a steel manufacturing process is an important subject. The quantitative analysis of the relationship between material flow and the energy intensity is useful to save energy in steel industry. Based on the concept of standard material flow diagram, all possible situations of ferric material flow in steel manufacturing process are analyzed. The expressions of the influence of material flow deviated from standard material flow diagram on energy consumption are put forward.
