National Bureau of Statistics data show that in 2018, new births in China stood at15.23 million, a 10.9-per-thousand birth rate that was the lowest since 1961.After the two-child policy was put into place in 2015, there were 17.86 million registered new births in 2016. But in 2017 it fell to 17.23million, followed by the 2.63-million drop in2018.
