In British Council-managed elt projects in Chinese universities,Chinese project counterparts areselected from among the English-language teaching staff of the *** work alongside aBritish Council-recruited lecturer(BCL)in developing whatever it is the project has been set up tocreate:a syllabus,teaching materials,a course,*** the lifetime of the project eachcounterpart is sent for a year’s postgraduate training(typically an MA in applied Linguistics)at aBritish university,the rationale being that the combination of training on the job and in the UK willequip them to take over the running of the project and ensure its long-term *** paperlooks at the staff development of the counterparts prior to their UK training.

Based on the theories of metacogonition and learner autonomy, and by analyzing the relationship between metacognitive awareness training and learner autonomy theoretically and statistically, the paper argues that in elt metacognitive awareness training should go before the training of metacognitive strategies, and only when students are conscious about metacognitive awareness can they strengthen their effort, motivation, and persistence, seek assistance from peers and teachers when needed, and provide self-instruction while learning and take responsibility for their learning.

Practice However,to what extent has the practice of elt methodology followed a similar path over the same period?To attempt to answer this question,as already explained,an analysis was carried out of the main methodological features of two versions of a unit of coursebook teaching material published since 1995,the first appearing near the beginning of the period,and the second towards the *** coursebook editions in question were the 1996 and 2009 versions of Headway Intermediate(Soars and Soars 1996,2009).This coursebook was chosen because it is widely used and influential,and the intermediate level from it on the grounds that this is the one attained by most EFL learners.

Most of the culture-related discussions about foreign language teaching and learning are about "why and how culture should be incorporated into foreign language teaching and learning because it is believed that lack of awareness of cultural differences interferes with the real understanding and appropriate use of the target language. This article looks at culture from another point of view: the influences of home culture on how a foreign language is learned and taught. These influences, termed "culture of learning", navigate teachers and learners about the purpose, process and product of learning. The Chinese culture of learning has many admirable traits, but it also has strong and persistent negative in influences on elt in China.

Over the past decades,the research in elt methods has already experienced an ongoing transition from method-based pedagogy to post-method *** regard to various method-based pedagogy,which is the best and appropriate method for TEFL in China has been still a controversial and vital *** the reflection and critical analysis of my own experience as an EFL learner and of teaching methods and principles in elt class as a college teacher,this paper mainly demonstrates there is no one so called‘best’or‘right’teaching methods for all from the perspective of Post-method framework which reflects a theoretical construct for teachers to effectively develop a systematic,and coherent pedagogy in their teaching context,aims to provide more instructive reference for elt and English teachers’development in China.
