Locational Marginal Pricing Mechanism for Uncertainty Management Based on Improved Multi-ellipsoidal Uncertainty Set

The large-scale integration of renewable energy sources (RESs) brings huge challenges to the power system. A cost-effective reserve deployment and uncertainty pricing mechanism are critical to deal with the uncertainty and variability of RES. To this end, this paper proposes a novel locational marginal pricing mechanism in day-ahead market for managing uncertainties from RES. Firstly, an improved multi-ellipsoidal uncertainty set (IMEUS) considering the temporal correlation and conditional correlation of wind power forecasting is formulated to better capture the uncertainty of wind power. The dimension of each ellipsoidal subset is optimized based on a comprehensive evaluation index to reduce the invalid region without large loss of modeling accuracy, so as to reduce the conservatism. Then, an IMEUS-based robust unit commitment (RUC) model and a robust economic dispatch (RED) model are established for the day-ahead market clearing. Both the reserve cost and ramping constraints are considered in the overall dispatch process. Furthermore, based on the Langrangian function of the RED model, a new locational marginal pricing mechanism is developed. The uncertainty locational marginal price (ULMP) is introduced to charge the RES for its uncertainties and reward the generators who provide reserve to mitigate uncertainties. The new pricing mechanism can provide effective price signals to incentivize the uncertainty management in the day-ahead market. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed mechanism is verified via numerous simulations on the PJM 5-bus system and IEEE 118-bus system.

Analysis of the motion of small-scale ellipsoidal particles in a horizontal laminar flow field

A particle movement model for a horizontal laminar flow field was established in this study,using a modified Basset-Boussinesq-Oseen equation for multiphase fluid dynamics,The motion of ellipsoidal and spherical particles in this flow field was compared to determine the differences in entrainment of ellipsoidal versus spherical *** theoretical results indicate that ellipsoidal particles move more rapidly and smoothly within the fluid than spherical particles under the same ***,this feature is enhanced,as the ellipsoidal degree of the particle *** on a dimensional analysis,flow experiments were carried out to verify the behavior of ellipsoidal versus spherical particles in *** our theoretical and experimental results show that ellipsoidal particles approach the fluid velocity more quickly than spherical *** work would need to address effects of velocity gradients and rotation on particle behavior.

Modeling and Software Development of the Interfacial Transition Zone of ellipsoidal Aggregate in Cement-Based Composites

The interfacial transition zone (ITZ) between the aggregates and the bulk paste is the weakest zone of ordinary concrete, which largely determines its mechanical and transporting properties. However, a complete understanding and a quantitative modeling of ITZ are still lacking. Consequently, an integrated modeling and experimental study were conducted. First, the theoretical calculation model of the ITZ volume fraction about the rotary ellipsoidal aggregate particles was established based on the nearest surface function formula. Its calculation programs were written based on Visual Basic 6.0 language and achieved visualization and functionalization. Then, the influencing factors of ITZ volume fraction of the ellipsoidal aggregate particles and the overlapping degree between the ITZ were systematically analyzed. Finally, the calculation models of ITZ volume fraction on actual ellipsoidal aggregate were given, based on cobblestones or pebbles particles with naturally ellipsoidal shape. The results indicate that the calculation model proposed is highly reliable.

Small haematite particles with well-defined elliposidal and spherical shapes are prepared by improved forced hydrolysis of ferric chlorid. The measurements of mid- and far-infrared transmission spectra of the small particles provide obvious experimental evidence of the influence of the shapes of small particles on the absorption of surface phonon mode. The theory proposed by Ruppin et al. is applied to small multi-atomic anisotropic α-Fe2O3 particles, and the experimental results are discussed.

A Theoretical Approach to Study J/Ψ Suppression in Relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions with ellipsoidal Evolution

With a view to understanding J/Ψ suppression in relativistic heavy ion collisions, we compute the suppression rate within the framework of hy-drodynamical evolution model. For this, we consider an ellipsoidal flow and use an ansatz for temperature profile function which accounts for time and the three dimensional space evolution of the quark-gluon plas-ma. We have calculated the survival probability separately as the func-tion of transverse and longitudinal momentum. We have shown that previous calculations are special cases of this model.

Modelling Orthometric Heights from a Combination of ellipsoidal Heights and Gravimetric Geoid Model in Rivers State, Nigeria

Many applications in geodesy, hydrography and engineering require geoid-related heights. Spirit leveling which is the traditional means of obtaining geoid- or mean sea level-related heights is slow, time-consuming and costly. Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) offer faster and relatively cheaper way of obtaining geoid-related heights when geoidal undulation is applied to ellipsoidal heights. However, difficulties involved in determining acceptable geoid height have seriously hampered the application of GNSS for leveling in Rivers State, thus necessitating the need to develop an acceptable geoid model which will serve as a means of conversion of GNSS-delivered ellipsoidal heights to their orthometric heights equivalent. In pursuance of this objective, a detailed gravimetric geoid has been evaluated for Rivers State, Nigeria. The computation of the geoid was carried out by the traditional remove-restore procedure. The Earth Geopotential Model 2008 (EGM08) was applied as the reference field for both the remove and restore parts of the procedures;spherical Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) was employed for the evaluation of the Molodenskii’s integral formula for the height anomaly, (ζ) to yield the quasi-geoid;while the Residual Terrain Modelling (RTM) was done by prism integration. The classical gravimetric geoid over Rivers State was obtained from the rigorously evaluated quasi-geoid by adding the quasi-geoid to geoid (N?- ζ) correction it. The minimum and maximum geoid height values are 18.599 m and 20.114 m respectively with standard deviation of 0.345 m across the study area. Comparison of the gravimetric geoidal heights with the GPS/Leveling-derived geoidal heights of 13 stations across Rivers State, Nigeria showed that the absolute agreement with respect to the GPS/leveling datum is generally better than 7 cm root mean squares (r.m.s) error. Re-assessing Vegetation Carbon Storage and Emissions from Land Use Change in China Using Surface Area

Land surface area estimation can provide basic information for accurately estimating vegetation carbon storage under complex terrain. This study selected China, a country dominated by mountains, as an example, and calculated terrestrial vegetation carbon storage(VCS) for 2000 and 2015 using land surface area and traditional ellipsoid area. The land surface area is estimated by a triangular network on the high precision digital elevation *** results showed that: 1) The VCS estimated by the surface area measurement in 2000 and 2015 were 0.676 and0.692 Pg C(1 Pg = 1015 g) higher than the VCS calculated using the ellipsoid area, respectively. 2) As the elevation increases, the differences between VCS estimated by surface area measurement and ellipsoid area measurement are expanding. Specially, a clear gap was present starting from an elevation of 500 m, with the relative error exceeds8.99%. 3) The total amount of carbon emitted due to land use change reached 0.114 Pg C. The conversions of forestland and grassland to other land use type are the main reasons of the loss of vegetation carbon storage, resulting in a total amount of biomass carbon storage decreased by 0.942 and 0.111 Pg C, respectively. This study was a preliminary exploration of incorporating land surface area as a factor in resource estimation, which can help more accurately understand the status of resources and the environment in the region.

The boundary value problem of Poisson' s equation with Stokes' boundary condition

The following Poisson’s equation with the Stokes’ boundary condition is dealt with outside S, at infinity,where S is reference ellipsoid. Under spherical approximation transformation, the ellipsoidal correction terms about the boundary condition, the equation and the density in the above BVP are respectively given. Therefore, the disturbing potential T can be obtained if the magnitudes above O(ε4) are neglected.
