＜正＞ Uncertainty may be the most important challenge in supply chain management （SCM）.There are three main sources of uncertainty,"demand,process,and supply",however,demand uncertainty is the key *** is a common strategy used in supply chains （SC） facing uncertain or variable *** provides a buffering mechanism to absorb the *** is defined as the ability to respond to an uncertain environment Flexibility can be used to smooth the demand *** incur significant costs for increasing flexibility,and as such,it is important that the flexibility and cost of SC be judiciously *** paper studies the investment decision problem of SC flexibility under demand *** consider a single period,two-level SC consisting of a single retailer and a single *** demand faced by the retailer is assumed to be determined by some cumulative distribution *** this paper,the SC flexibility refers to the volume flexibility,which is measured by capacity ***,we analyze the construction of the SC’s total *** to volume flexibility,a SC-cost-minimizing model is ***,through optimal analysis,we develop the function of the SC’s expected total cost and its flexibility *** can make decision about different investment in the SC corresponds to different volume flexibility with the *** define the function as the efficient frontiers of SC Volume Flexibility ***,we present the characters of the efficient frontiers,which include monotone increasing and convex *** research solutions provide theoretical and practical significance in deciding the SC volume flexibility.
