Embodied exergy-based assessment of energy and resource consumption of buildings

In order to evaluate the potential ecological risks of nearshore area of Fujian Province,four surveys on water quality,marine sediments and marine biological quality at 20 monitoring sites were carried out during the neap-spring tide in the autumn of 2010 and the spring of *** index(H′),uniformity(J′),abundance(d) and dominance(Y) were *** results showed that the background values of heavy metals in the waters were generally low,but eutrophication was *** in the autumn was more severe than in the *** indices of inorganic nitrogen and active phosphate at all monitoring sites in autumn exceeded the quality standard for sea *** average primary productivity of the sea area in the spring was877.3 mgC·m·d,which was higher than that in the autumn(26.60 mgC·m·d).In the research area,there were 4 phyla,97 species of phytoplankton in the sea water in *** composition of dominant species was *** average diversity index H’ in the two seasons was 3.28 and 1.52,*** average abundance d was 0.87 and 0.41,*** community structure of phytoplankton in the spring was unstable,and the marine environment in the autumn was more suitable for the growth of a variety of phytoplankton.

As an effective approach to achieve a more unified and scientific assessment, embodied exergy-based analysis is devised to assess the energy and resource consumption of buildings. A systematic accounting of the landmark buildings in E-town, Beijing is performed, on the basis of raw project data in the Bill of Quantities （BOQ） and the most recent embodied exergy intensities for the Chinese economy in 2007 with 135 industrial sectors. The embodied exergy of the engineering structure of the case buildings is quantified as 4.95E ＋ 14 J, corresponding to an intensity of 8.25E ＋ 09 J/m2 floor area. Total exergy of 51.9% and 28.8% are embodied in the steel and concrete inputs, respectively, due to the fact that the case buildings are structured of reinforced-concrete. The fossil fuel source （coal, crude oil, and natural gas） is predominant among four categories of natural resources （fossil fuel, biological, mineral, and environmental）, accounting for 89.9% of the embodied exergy, with coal as the dominant energy resource （75.5%）. The material accounts for 89.5% of the embodied exergy, in contrast to 9.0%, 1.4%, and 0.1% for manpower, energy, and equipment respectively. This result indicates that great attention should be given to the use of various materials vs. their value of their contribution

Groundwater,as a critical component of the hydrological cycle,is essential for sustainable ecosystem *** clarify the current status of domestic and overseas research,and to identify hotspots,frontier and future trends of groundwater and ecology research,this study utilizes bibliometric methods and CiteSpace software to examine relevant published articles in the Web of Science(WOS)and CNKI databases from 1978 to ***,this study analyzes(1)the annual number of published papers;(2)research institutions;(3)keywords;and(4)evolution of research *** findings reveal that the United States,China,and Germany are the top three countries in groundwater and ecology *** research hotspots mainly focus on microbial ecology,climate change,groundwater-surface water interactions in the hyporheic zone,biodiversity,and submarine groundwater discharge,while domestic research hotspots mainly focus on ecological water conveyance,ecological flow,groundwater development and utilization,groundwater pollution,and groundwater and ecological *** domestic and international research hotspots exhibit interdisciplinary features with diverse research objects and assessment *** research in this area is expected to focus on topics such as contamination,groundwater quality,framework,mechanism,spatial distribution,and dissolved organic ***,the study of ecological recharge,ecological flow,ecological protection,water intake and use will continue to be the hot topics domestically.

Huangpu River is about 114.5 km from upriver Dianfeng to downriver Wusong, near the estuary of the Yangtze River. It plays a key role in supplying water for production, life, shipment and irrigation. With the industrial development, the pollution of the Huangpu River has become serious recently. The biological oxygen demand （BOD）, total nitrogen （TN）, total phosphorus （TP）, oil, phenol and suspended solids （SS） were lower in the upstream sites than in the downstream sites, indicating pollutants being input along its course. Water quality was the worst in the Yangpu site, near the center of Shanghai City. Dissolved oxygen （DO） content was less than 2 mg/L in the site of Yangpu in July. Among relations between thirteen characteristics, relations between BOD, DO, TN, TP, NH4^＋ -N, NO3^- -N and the count of total bacteria or Escherichia coli were significant and interdependent. Inner relationships between these main characteristics in the Huangpu River were studied. High nutrient concentration led to growth of microorganisms, including E. coli. Degradation of organic matters and respiration of bacteria made oxygen concentration decreased in the water body, and DO was a key factor for nitrification-denitrification process of nitrogen. In the Yangpu site, DO was decreased to less than 3.0 mg/L with BOD higher than 7.5 mg/L in May and July. Low DO concentration will decrease nitrification rate. Nitrification need at higher DO value than other organic substrate oxidation. Consequently, river water contains low NO3^- -N values with high amounts of TN and NH4^＋ -N there. This will block the self-purification of surface water, by decreasing the rate of nitrification-denitrification transformation process in the water body.
