Archaeological evidence shows that the Maritime Silk Road was of considerable scale during the Han dynasty.Greek-style silverware unearthed from the tomb of the Nanyue King in Guangzhou and stone Greek columns discovered in the ruins of the Nanyue Kingdom's palace confirm the existence of the Maritime Silk Road by the end of the Qin dynasty and the beginning of the Han dynasty.The Lingnan region exported silk to the West in exchange for various goods,and Greek artisans came to China to participate in the construction of the Nanyue King's Palace.

Using aerial photos and high resolution satellite images of the year of 2004,this paper establishes remote sensing interpretation marks of the Great Wall of Ming dynasty's damaged levels. Based on field survey and remote sensing survey in 1984,we analyzed present situation and changing characteristics being of the Great Wall of Ming dynasty in Beijing. The results show that about 7.02% of the wall is well-preserved (about 25861 m); 31.5% of the wall is slightly or moderately dam-aged (about 115989 m); 61.5% of the wall is badly damaged (about 226379 m). This paper analyzes the dynamic change of the Great Wall of Ming dynasty. It shows that the damaged situation of the Great Wall of Ming dynasty in Beijing is serious. From 1984 to 2004,the well-preserved wall is decreased by 33206 m (decreased by 56%); badly damaged wall increased by 51207 m (increased by 67%). Finally,this paper analyzes the influence factors of damaging Great Wall. The conclusion is as follows: The damaged Great Wall is generally near the roads and villages,small slope,and easily arriving land.

“Did the Xia dynasty actually exist?”This question has plagued archaeologists for decades.The Xia dynasty(c.21st century-16th century BC)is often referenced in Chinese historical documents as the first hereditary dynasty.It is considered the first component of the Xia,Shang,and Zhou(c.11th century-256 BC)dynasties in ancient classic literature such as Shi Jing(The Book of Songs)from the pre-Qin period(prior to 221 BC)and Shi Ji(Historical Records),compiled during the Western Han dynasty(206 BC-AD 24).However,in contrast to the Shang dynasty(c.16th century-11th century BC),which left oracle bone inscriptions and Yin Ruins as evidence,the Xia dynasty has not yet been fully recognized by academic circles due to a lack of internal evidence or written materials.

In this study,a 2000-year simulation forced by transient,external forcings is carried out with the Community Earth System Model.The authors investigate the spatiotemporal features of climate change in the Han dynasty(1–200 A.D.)using the empirical orthogonal function(EOF)method.The leading EOF mode of the annua mean temperature anomalies shows a uniform variation of temperature over the whole of China,while the second EOF mode indicates opposite variations of temperature between western and eastern China.For the annual mean precipitation anomalies,the first EOF mode indicates a meridional dipole pattern over eastern China,with increased(decreased)precipitation to the south of the Yangtze River and decreased(increased)precipitation to the north.The leading mode of the 850 h Pa winds and sea level pressure in summer exhibits a southwesterly(northeasterly)anomaly over South China,which is associated with a strengthened(reduced)meridional sea level pressure gradient.Compared to reconstructions,the model can capture the majority of features of climate changes in the Han dynasty,though it underestimates the magnitude.

The ever-normal granary system was an official granary management system in ancient China.Throughout its existence,the system functioned as a major means of adjusting the price of grain and provided disaster relief.Few studies on the system touches upon the relationship between grain price fluctuation and the development of the grain market,or the ever-normal granary system and its related economic school of thoughts.Starting with the development of the grain market and the relationship between the price of grain and grain reserves,and through a systematic review of the debate on the ever-normal granary system and grain prices among high-level officials of the Qing government in the 13th year of Emperor Qianlong’s reign(1748),this paper analyzes the historical process and reasons for the change in thoughts on the ever-normal granary system and discusses the historical path of how economic phenomenon gave rise to the clash of economic thoughts that influenced the evolution of this economic institution.

The origin of ancient banded iron formation （BIF） has remained unclear for a long time. How the precipitation process occurred and what the environmental condition was have been widely discussed among scientists, because the period when the major BIFs deposited （-2.8 to 1.8Ga） is the same time when biosphere and atmosphere significantly changed. Based on the discovery of modern seafloor hydrothermal vents, it is possible that reductive environment controlled by vent system is related to the environment where BIF was deposited.
