dual Phase Renewable fuel Combustion in an Atmospheric Gas Turbine Burner

Expanding the fuel flexibility of continuous combustion systems to include multiphase fuel combustion offers additional support to combat the problem of energy security and,potentially,environmental pollution.In this study,apart from establishing stability limits and measuring post-combustion emissions,flames generated from simultaneous combustion of biodiesel and syngas were examined using C_(2)*and CH*chemiluminescence imaging to capture changes in the reaction zone.The proportion of syngas in the fuel mix was varied from 0 to 30%content(by energy contribution)while maintaining a total power output of 15 kW.The overall equivalence ratio was held at 0.7 in cases other than for determining the flammability range.The results indicate a reduction of stability limits as gas proportion in fuel blend increases.Also,chemiluminescence imaging of the two targeted species suggest a general reduction in reaction rate as well as reaction zone area and length with increase in gas ratio in the dual phase tests.Furthermore,emissions performance in the context of NOxand CO was investigated as liquid-to-gas ratios were altered.Conclusively,the study demonstrates the feasibility,limitations and potential benefits of multiphase renewable fuel combustion in a swirl-stabilised burner.

Investigation to meet China Ⅱ emission legislation for marine diesel engine with diesel methanol compound combustion technology

In order to reduce the pollutant emission and alleviate the pressure of petroleum resources shortage and greenhouse gas emission at the same time,the use of clean and renewable alternative fuel for marine engines is a promising option.In this study,a marine diesel engine,which was modified to run in diesel methanol compound combustion (DMCC) mode,was investigated.After the diesel injection parameters were calibrated,and combined with a sample after-treatment device DOC (diesel oxidation catalyst),the engine could meet the requirements of China II legislation.The overall MSP (methanol substitute percent) reached 54.1%.The value of each pollutant emission was much lower than that in China II emission legislation,and there was almost no methanol and formaldehyde emissions.When methanol was injected into the inlet manifold,the intake air temperature decreased a lot,as well as the exhaust gas temperature,which were beneficial to increase engine thermal efficiency and improve engine room environment.Compared with the engine running in pure diesel mode,when the engine ran in diesel/methanol dual fuel mode,the combustion phase was advanced,and the combustion duration became shorter.Therefore,the engine thermal efficiency increased,and fuel consumption decreased significantly.

MECHANISM ON DISTRIBUTION OF PILOT fuel SPRAY AND COMPRESSING IGNITION IN PREMIXED NATURAL GAS ENGINE IGNITED BY PILOT DIESEL

Numerical simulations of pilot fuel spray and compressing ignition forpre-mixed natural gas ignited by pilot diesel are described. By means of these modeling, the dualfuel and diesel fuel ignition mechanism of some phenomena investigated on an optional engine bytechnology of high-speed CCD is analyzed. It is demonstrated that the longer delay of ignition indual fuel engine is not mainly caused by change of the mixture thermodynamics parameters. Theanalysis results illustrate that the ignition of pre-mixed nataral gas ignited by pilot dieseltaking place in dual fuel engine is a process of homogenous charge compression ignition.
