Fixation of hybrid sterility genes and favorable alleles of key yield-related genes with dominance contribute to the high yield of the Yongyou series of intersubspecific hybrid rice

In rice,the Yongyou series of Xian-Geng intersubspecific hybrids have excellent production performance,as shown by their extremely high yield.However,the mechanisms underlying the success of these rice hybrids are unclear.In this study,three F2 populations are generated from three Yongyou hybrids to determine the genetic basis of the extremely high yield of intersubspecific hybrids.Genome constitution analysis reveals that the female and male parental lines belong to the Geng and Xian subspecies,respectively,although introgression of 20%of the Xian ancestry and 14%of the Geng ancestry are observed.Twenty-five percent of the hybrid genomes carries homozygous Xian or Geng fragments,which harbors hybrid sterility genes such as Sd,Sc,f5,and q S12 and favorable alleles of key yield-related genes,including NAL1,Ghd7,and Ghd8.None of the parents carries the S5+killer of the S5 killer-protector system.Compatible allele combinations of hybrid sterility genes ensure the fertility of these intersubspecific hybrids and overcome the bottleneck in applying intersubspecific hybrids.Additive effects of favorable alleles of yield-related genes fixed in both parents enhances midparent values.Many QTLs for yield and its key component spikelets per panicle shows dominance and the net positive dominant effects lead to heterosis.These factors result in an extremely high yield of the hybrids.These findings will aid in the development of new intersubspecific rice hybrids with diverse genetic backgrounds.

Changing trends in prevalence of different Plasmodium species with dominance of Plasmodium falciparum malaria infection in Aligarh(India)

Objective:To determine the prevalence of malaria in Aligarh and analyze species dominance in different years over a decade.Methods:Diagnosis of malaria was done using microscopy as gold standard,rapid antigen detection assays and quantitative buffy coat(QBC) assays.Giemsa stained blood smear examination was done,thick and thin films were examined for presence of different Plasmodium spp.Rapid antigen detection assays employing detection of HRP-2 and parasite lactate dehydrogenase antigen(pLDH) by immunochromatography was done in patients whose blood smear found to be negative by conventional Giemsa slide examination.QBC was done in cases where there is strong clinical suspicion of malaria with blood smear negative,in patients with chronic malaria,splenomegaly,or in those patients who had inadequate treatment and for post-treatment follow up.Results:Plasmodium vivax and Plasmodium falciparum were only species detected in our hospital.Overall prevalence of malaria in Aligarh was found to be 8.8%.The maximum prevalence of 20.1%was observed in year 2008 and lowest 2.3%in 2002. Conclusions:High prevalence of malaria is observed in this part of country with dominance of both species particularly Plasmodium falciparum should be monitored and factors accounting for occurrence should be studied to employ effective control measures.

What is the Potential Cause for the Predominance of GII.2[P16]Norovirus in Acute Gastroenteritis Outbreaks in China?

GII.2[P16]noroviruses(NoV)reemerged and rapidly became the main epidemic strain in acute gastroenteritis(AGE)outbreaks in Asian countries since 2016.The current GII.2[P16]NoV showed the same antigenicity to the ones before 2016,but several unique amino acid substitutions existed in the RNA dependent RNA polymerase(RdRp)and other non-structural proteins,and the viral load of the current GII.2[P16]NoV was higher than those of other genotypes,it was estimated that the viral replication ability may have improved.However,other genotypes,such as GII.1 and GII.3,also had recombination with the novel RdRp,were not prevalent in AGE-outbreaks;thus,it was inferred that the capsid proteins also played an important role in the enhanced replication process.The viral infection could also be affected by other factors,such as the population genetic background,the climate and environment,and people’s lifestyles.Continued surveillance on genetic diversity and evolutionary pattern for the GII.2[P16]NoV is necessary.

The multi-omics basis of potato heterosis

Heterosis is a fundamental biological phenomenon characterized by the superior performance of hybrids over their parents.Although tremendous progress has been reported in seed crops,the molecular mechanisms underlying heterosis in clonally propagated crops are largely unknown.Potato(Solanum tuberosum L.)is the most important tuber crop and an ongoing revolution is transforming potato from a clonally propagated tetraploid crop into a seed-propagated diploidhybrid potato.In our previous study,we developed the first generation of highly homozygous inbred lines of potato and hybrids with strong heterosis.Here,we integrated transcriptome,metabolome,and DNA methylation data to explore the genetic and molecular basis of potato heterosis at three developmental stages.We found that the initial establishment of heterosis in diploid potato was mainly due to dominant complementation.Flower color,male fertility,and starch and sucrose metabolism showed obvious gene dominant complementation in hybrids,and hybrids devoted more energy to primary metabolism for rapid growth.In addition,we identified~2700 allele-specific expression genes at each stage,which likely function in potato heterosis and might be regulated by CHH allele-specific methylation level.Our multi-omics analysis provides insight into heterosis in potato and facilitates the exploitation of heterosis in potato breeding.

Assembly of yield heterosis of an elite rice hybrid is promising by manipulating dominant quantitative trait loci

In the past,rice hybrids with strong heterosis have been obtained empirically,by developing and testing thousands of combinations.Here,we aimed to determine whether heterosis of an elite hybrid could be achieved by manipulating major quantitative trait loci.We used 202 chromosome segment substitution lines from the elite hybrid Shanyou 63 to evaluate single segment heterosis(SSH)of yield per plant and identify heterotic loci.All nine detected heteroticloci acted in a dominant fashion,and no SSH exhibited overdominance.Functional alleles of key yield-related genes Ghd7,Ghd7.1,Hd1,and GS3 were dispersed in both parents.No functional alleles of three investigated genes were expressed at higher levels in the hybrids than in the more desirable parents.A hybrid pyramiding eight heterotic loci in the female parent Zhenshan 97 background had a comparable yield to Shanyou 63 and much higher yield than Zhenshan 97.Five hybrids pyramiding eight or nine heterotic loci in the combined parental genome background showed similar yield performance to that of Shanyou 63.These results suggest that dominance underlying functional complementation is an important contributor to yield heterosis and that heterosis assembly might be successfully promised by manipulating several major dominant heterotic loci.

This condition can be considered as a preference for the particular laterality of the eye during a mono-visual task or the relative contributions of visual signal transduction between eyes[2]. Empirically, OD tendencies are exhibited in habitual and subconscious behavior.

Coordinated development of land multi-function space: An analytical framework for matching the supply of resources and environment with the use of land space for ecological protection, agricultural production and urban construction

Based on the carrying capacity of the resources and the environment,this article defines the connotation of the land multifunctional space(LMFS)from three aspects,ecological protection,agricultural production and urban construction,in the new era of land space planning system.Moreover,a framework is constructed for the coordinated development of the multi-functional oriented space to match the use of land space(ULS)with the supply of resources and environment(SRE).Based on this,the technology and methods of comprehensive evaluation,dominance recognition,and matching relationship division functions of the use of land space(FULS)and functions of the supply of resources and environment(FSRE)are discussed.The advantageous functions of the use of land space(AFULS)and advantageous functions of the supply of resources and environment(AFSRE)are also identified in the study area.A LMFS coordinated development system integrating“function position-comprehensive partition-regulation strategy”is proposed.Through the empirical study of Shandong province,we found that,first,the FULS of ecological protection space in the province is mainly found in high value areas,and the FSRE is mainly in low value areas,which has certain complementarity in the space.The FULS of agricultural production space is mainly observed in high value areas,the FSRE is mainly in middle value areas,and the spatial distribution is balanced and staggered.The FULS of the urban construction space and the FSRE are mainly in middle values areas,and the spatial distribution is basically similar.Second,the FULS in the study area is dominated by the single advantage of agricultural production and urban construction,while the FSRE has a relatively balanced distribution of the advantages of ecological protection,single agricultural production and compound advantages of agricultural production and urban construction,and urban construction and ecological protection.The matching between the two is mainly at high and middle levels.Specifically,70%of the province’s land

Genome-wide unbalanced expression bias and expression level dominance toward Brassica oleracea in artificially synthesized intergeneric hybrids of Raphanobrassica

Raphanobrassica(R^(r)R^(r)C^(r)C^(r),2n=4x=36),which is generated by distant hybridization between the maternal parent Raphanus sativus(R s R s,2n=2x=18)and the paternal parent Brassica oleracea(C°C°,2n=2x=18),displays intermediate silique phenotypes compared to diploid progenitors.However,the hybrid shares much more similarities in silique phenotypes with those of B.oleracea than those of R.sativus.Strikingly,the silique of Raphanobrassica is obviously split into two parts.To investigate the gene expression patterns behind these phenomena,transcriptome analysis was performed on the upper,middle,and lower sections of pods(RCsiu,RCsim,and RCsil),seeds in the upper and lower sections of siliques(RCseu and RCsel)from Raphanobrassica,whole pods(Rsi and Csi)and all seeds in the siliques(Rse and Cse)from R.sativus and B.oleracea.Transcriptome shock was observed in all five aforementioned tissues of Raphanobrassica.Genome-wide unbalanced biased expression and expression level dominance were also discovered,and both of them were toward B.oleracea in Raphanobrassica,which is consistent with the observed phenotypes.The present results reveal the global gene expression patterns of different sections of siliques of Raphanobrassica,pods,and seeds of B.oleracea and R.sativus,unraveling the tight correlation between global gene expression patterns and phenotypes of the hybrid and its parents.

Followness of Altcoins in the dominance of Bitcoin:A Phase Analysis

Due to the transparency,simplicity,and blockchain system,cryptocurrencies gained popularity in the modern world.This led to more use of cryptocurrencies for speculation and investment rather than a medium of exchange.It is crucial to analyse the nature of the crypto market before investing in such currencies.With this intention,the paper tried to know the extent of following(Followness)of altcoins to the bitcoin in the different dominance phases like High dominance,Low dominance,and Moderate dominance.For this purpose,daily closing prices of the Bitcoin and five major altcoins(Ethereum,Litecoin,Namecoin,Doge,and Ripple)are collected for the last five years and analyse the relationship between bitcoin and altcoins.Pearson's correlation coefficient test is used to know the direction of the relationship,and Vector Error Correction Model is used to see the extent of the relation.In general,the empirical result of the study showed cointegration between bitcoin and Altcoin.It also depicted that Altcoin showed a high level of followness in the moderate dominance phase and low followness in the low dominance phase.The study developed a price estimation equation to predict the price of altcoins depending upon the price of bitcoin and its dominance in the crypto market.This paper concludes that the dominance of Bitcoin also has a significant role in the price movement of altcoins.
