The organic-inorganic hybrid layered perovskites are of great and continuous interest in material sciences. Here we report structures and thermal/dielectric/magnetic behaviors of several new hybrid layered ammonium metal formate perovskite compounds of [NHCl][Ni(HCOO)(NH)](1), [CHC(NH)][M(HCOO)](2 and 3 for M = Co and Ni respectively) and [(CH)(NH)][Mn(HCOO)](4). The structures consists of metal formate perovskite layers and the interlayer ammonium components. 1 undergoes a ferro-to ferro-electric transition around 110 K and a para-to antiferro-magnetic transition at 25 K, in which both electric and magnetic polarizations turn from the direction perpendicular to the layers to the direction parallel to the layers. 2 to 4 shows anisotropically thermal expansions, depending on the most vibration directions of the interlayer components. They are all weak ferromagnets, and the Néel temperatures are 6.0 K(2), 17.0 K(3), and 4.0 K(4), respectively. The magnetic studies on the single crystals of 2 and 4 have further revealed that the orthorhombic 2 has the magnetization easy axis along the a direction, in the perovskite layer, and the spin-canting direction along b(in layer) or c(perpendicular to the layer) direction. For monoclinic 4 the magnetization easy axis is b in the perovskite layer, and the spin-canting direction is along a* perpendicular to the layer. The ground states of 2 and 4 are antiferromagnetic because the weak-ferromagnetic layers are antiferromagnetically coupled. They thus show meta-magnetic transitions further spin-flop by applied magnetic field.
