Social hierarchy is a general self-organizational scheme in animal societies in which each member achieves a certain status of domination or subordination when getting access to resources,with profound consequences for survival,health,reproductive success,and multiple behaviors[1,2].The prefrontal cortex(PFC)was recognized as a central regulator of neuronal circuits determining the formation of social hierarchy;brain areas upstream of the PFC convey information about social status,and downstream brain regions execute dominance behavior[3].Social deficits have been suggested to be due to an elevation of excitatory/inhibitory(E/l)balance within the mouse dorsomedial(dm)PFC[4].A compensatory increase of inhibitory cell excitability partially rescued social deficits caused by such a disturbance of E/l balance.

Grain boundaries(GBs)govern many properties of polycrystalline materials.However,because of their structural variability,our knowledge of GB constitutive relations is still very limited.We present a novel method to characterise the complete crystallography of individual GBs non-destructively,with high-throughput,and using commercially available tools.This method combines electron diffraction,optical reflectance and numerical image analysis to determine all five crystallographic parameters of numerous GBs in samples with through-thickness grains.We demonstrate the technique by measuring the crystallographic character of about 1,000 individual GBs in aluminum in a single run.Our method enables cost-and time-effective assembly of crystallography–property databases for thousands of individual GBs.Such databases are essential for identifying GB constitutive relations and for predicting GB-related behaviours of polycrystalline solids.

Evapotranspiration of a natural secondary white birch (Betula populifolia)forest in Maoershan Ecological Station was determined by water balance method, heat balance method and water and heat combination method. Results showed that the total evapotranspiration of the forest in the growing season was 3. 6mm/d. of which evapotrans piration from canopy xvas 2. 91 mm/d and that from forest floor was 0. 57 mm/d. and that in the non-growing season was 0. 8 mm/d.

A series of olefin hydroformylations over supported aqueous-phase rhodium catalyst with the substitUtion of CO/D2 for CO/H2 were cAned out to study the isotope effects of deuterium. The rate of aldehyde formation in CO/D2 was about 1.3 times faster than that in COns2, indicating that the aldehyde formation shows noticeable inverse deuterium isotope effect over SAP catalyst. The results of in-situIR stUdy of ethylene hydroformylation suggest that the reaction rate of acylhydrogenolysis forming aldehyde is the slowest one. It may be inferred from these results that the rate-determining step involved\in aldehyde formation is very probably astep ofhydrogenation.

A novel mechanism of the arylation of arenes via norbornene(NBE)relay palladation through meta-to para-selectivity was revealed via density functional theory(DFT)calculations.Our calculated results revealed that the reaction was initiated by a[mono-N-protected amino acid ligand(MPAA)–Pd]complex to activate at first the meta-C–H guided by the directing group(DG),and para-arylation was subsequently achieved by NBE relay palladation from meta-to para-position.Significantly,the palladium/norbornene(Pd/NBE)cooperative catalysis was catalyzed by a Pd–Ag bimetallic complex,which accounted for the experimental fact that no yield detected without Ag.The reaction pathway through para-to meta-selectivity was also investigated,while this pathway was kinetically unfavorable.The results revealed that the initial DG guided C–H site activation was the rate-determining step and played an important role in determining site-selectivity.The primary meta-activation was favorable in energy due to the less ring strain in the cyclic nitrile-coordinated C–H transition states in the meta position.Moreover,the perfect cooperation of a remote directing template and a transient mediator NBE through the alternating association with the Pd center achieved the relay through meta-to para-position.The present results provide a reasonable insight into the para-C–H arylation by the Pd/MPAA/NBE cooperative catalysis in conjunction with a precise DG and Ag(I)additive.

In this work,we present a high-throughput workflow for calculation of adsorption energies on solid surfaces using density functional theory.Using open-source computational tools from the Materials Project infrastructure,we automate the procedure of constructing symmetrically distinct adsorbate configurations for arbitrary slabs.These algorithms are further used to construct and run workflows in a standard,automated way such that user intervention in the simulation procedure is minimal.To validate our approach,we compare results from our workflow to previous experimental and theoretical benchmarks from the CE27 database of chemisorption energies on solid surfaces.These benchmarks also illustrate how the task of performing and managing over 200 individual density functional theory calculations may be reduced to a single submission procedure and subsequent analysis.By enabling more efficient high-throughput computations of adsorption energies,these tools will accelerate theory-guided discovery of advanced materials for applications in catalysis and surface science.

DEAR EDITOR,Cave loaches within the family Nemacheilidae are among the most diverse group of cavefish in southwestern China.Although certain species have been included in previous phylogenetic studies,the intergeneric and interspecific relationships of Chinese cave loaches in Nemacheilidae remain poorly investigated due to insufficient sampling.In this study,a total of 45 samples from 37 recognized species and two unidentified species of cave loaches were collected,accounting for 87.5%of the eight recognized genera of cave loaches within the family Nemacheilidae in China.The complete mitochondrial genome(mitogenome)and seven nuclear genes were sequenced,and the phylogenetic tree of Chinese cave loaches was reconstructed.Both Bayesian inference and maximum-likelihood analyses resolved the phylogenetic relationships at the generic and species levels,suggesting the effectiveness of this multilocus marker system in determining phylogenetic relationships in Chinese cave loaches.Phylogenetic analysis not only confirmed previous taxonomic hypotheses based on morphological data but also provided new insights into the relationships of many cave loaches at the genus and species levels as well as suggestions for the current taxonomy of cave loaches within the family Nemacheilidae.
