The objective is to develop a model considering demand dependent on selling price and deterioration occurs after a certain period of time, which follows two-parameter Weibull distribution. Shortages are allowed and fully backlogged. Fuzzy optimal solution is obtained by considering hexagonal fuzzy numbers and for defuzzification Graded Mean Integration Representation Method. A numerical example is provided for the illustration of crisp and fuzzy, both models. To observe the effect of changes in parameters, sensitivity analysis is carried out.

This paper develops an integrated fuzzy two-layer supply chain for manufacturersand retailers with defective and non-defective types of products. The manufacturerproduces up to a specific time, including both faulty and non-defective items, andpost-screening only the non-defective item sends to the retailer. The strategy of theretailer is to do the screening of items received from the manufacturer.Subsequently, the perfect quality items use to fulfill the demand of thecustomer, and the defective items are reworked. The retailer considers thatcustomer demand is time and reliability dependent. The proposed supply chainconsiders probabilistic deterioration for the manufacturer and retailers. Theoptimum solution of the given model is evaluated for both the cases of crispand fuzzy environments on the strategies such as production rate, unitproduction cost, idle time, screening, rework, etc. Managerial insights and theeffect of parameters on the optimal inventory under fuzziness are presented.

Bridge deterioration models are used for prioritization and maintenance of bridges.These models can be broadly classified as deterministic and stochastic models.There are mechanistic models(or physical models)as well as Artificial Intelligence(AI)-based models,each of which can be stochastic or deterministic in nature.Even though there are several existing deterioration models,state-based stochastic Markov chain-based model is widely employed in bridge management programs.This paper presents a critical review of different bridge deterioration models highlighting the advantages and limitations of each model.The models are applied to some case studies of timber superstructure and concrete bridge decks.Examples are illustrated for arriving at bridge deterioration models using deterministic,stochastic and Artificial Neural Network(ANN)-based models based on National Bridge Inventory(NBI)data.The first example is based on deterministic model and the second on stochastic model.The deterministic model uses the NBI records for the years 1992-2012,while the stochastic model uses the NBI records for one year(2011-2012).The stochastic model is state-based Markov chain model developed using Transition Probability Matrix(TPM)obtained by Percentage Prediction Method(PPM).The two deterioration models(i.e.,deterministic and stochastic models)are applied to timber highway bridge superstructure using NBI condition data for bridges in Florida,Georgia,South Carolina and North Carolina.The illustrated examples show that the deterministic model provides higher accuracy in the predicted condition value than the stochastic Markov chain-based model.If the model is developed based on average of transition probabilities considering the data for the period 1992 to 2012,the prediction accuracy of stochastic model will improve.Proper data filtering of condition records aids in improving the accuracy of the deterministic models.The third example illustrates the ANN-based deterioration model for reinforced concrete bridge decks in Florida based

This study investigated the deterioration of a lubricant-infused anodic aluminium oxide surface in a 1M NaCl solution for~200 days.Direct observation by cryo-SEM and quantitative analyses by UV spectroscopy and EIS revealed that the long-term deterioration of the lubricant-infused surface was divided into two stages:the surface-adhered lubricant layer gradually dissolved at a constant rate until the substrate was exposed;afterwards the lubricant infused in the nanochannels began to diffuse and was depleted after~200 days.The EIS results also revealed that the defects reduced the corrosion resistance of the lubricant-infused surface considerably.

To conduct a reliability analysis for mechanical components, it is necessary to consider the combined influence of strength deterioration and dynamic loads. An efficient method based on subset simulation is proposed in this paper to analyze time-variant reliability by considering the strength deterioration of mechanical components in a continuous system. A gamma process is used to describe the deterioration of system strength. A model for timevariant reliability considering strength deterioration is constructed for a continuous system. A representative example and tubular cantilever structure are assessed to demonstrate the efficiency and accuracy of the proposed method. The reliability probability examples were analyzed using a first-order reliability method and benchmark results for the proposed method were derived using direct Monte Carlo simulation (MCS). The results of the proposed method and MCS are consistent, indicating that the proposed method is an effective reliability analysis method for evaluating small failure probabilities in a continuous system subjected to strength deterioration and dynamic loads.

The environmental or anthropogenic factors, to which the in-service bridges are subjected,are responsible for the reduction of bridge performance, and finally lead to great service risk for bridges and increase the probability of substantial economic losses. Probabilitybased estimate of bridge resistance is an essential indicator for the bridge condition evaluation and for optimization of bridge maintenance/repair decisions. It places an emphasis on the proper probabilistic models of structural properties and assessment methods. Making full use of historical service load information may improve the accuracy of bridge performance assessment with reduced epistemic uncertainty for existing aging bridges. In to-date analyses to update the bridge resistance with past service information,the models of resistance deterioration have been assumed as either deterministic or fully correlated, which may differ significantly from the realistic case. With this regard, this paper proposes a novel method for updating the resistance of service-proven bridges with a realistic deterioration model. The Gamma stochastic process has been suggested in the literature to describe the probabilistic behavior of structural time-dependent resistance and thus is adopted in this paper. An illustrative bridge is presented to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed method. Parametric examples are conducted to investigate the role of resistance deterioration model in the updated estimate of bridge resistance with historical service information.

Salt weathering leads to destruction of many valuable cultural heritage monuments and porous building material. The present study aims at providing more laboratory evidence for evaluating the effects of salt precipitation on the deterioration process. In view of this, the remoulded soil specimens were mixed with three kinds of salts(i.e., NaCl, Na_2SO_4 and their mixture) with different salt concentrations, and the specimens were kept in environment cabinet for undergoing different wet-dry cycles. After each cycle, the ultrasound velocity measurements were employed to monitor the deterioration process. For the specimens that have suffered three wet-dry cycles, the mechanical properties(i.e. shear strength and compression strength) were determined to evaluate the degree of deterioration. Furthermore, considering the realistic conservation environment of earthen sites, mechanical stability of these specimens against sediment-carrying wind erosion was conducted in a wind tunnel. These experiments results indicate that the overall average velocities of the specimens after the third cycle are significantly lower than those subjected to only one cycle. Ultrasound velocity, mechanical strength and wind erosion rate decrease when salt content increases. However, the internal friction angle increases firstly, and then decreases with the increase in salt content added to the specimens. Na_2SO_4 contributes most of the surface deterioration, while NaCl plays little role in the deterioration. The damage potential of the salt mixture is less obvious and largely dependent on the crystallisation location.

Polycarboxylic acids(PACs)are important metabolic products in almost all living bodies,yet current analytical methods for detection of PACs in tea beverages are still unsatisfactory due to the complex matrix and physicochemical properties of PACs.In this work,a rapid method was developed for the simultaneous determination of 7 PACs,including tartaric acid,α-ketoglutaric acid,malic acid,malonic acid,cis-aconitic acid,succinic acid,and fumaric acid,in beverages,based on selective removal of the matrix in combination with liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry(LC-MS)analysis.By stirring with activated carbon and the Na2CO3 solution,the matrix in beverages was selectively removed,and PACs were almost retained in the supernatant of diluted Na2CO3 solution.Under optimized parameters,the limit of quantitation for the PACs was in the range of 1–50 ng/mL,and the content of the PACs in 8 beverages was determined with the recovery range of 72.2%–122.5%.The contents of malic acid,malonic acid,and succinic acid in tea beverages were found to be greater than those in non-tea beverages.Moreover,the concentration of these PACs in beverages was found to be multiplied many times in their deterioration period,especially for fumaric acid andα-ketoglutaric acid.These results indicated that PACs can be selected as a criterion to differentiate qualified tea beverages from spoiled beverages.

In practice,any member of supply chain may offer full or partial trade credit contract to his downstream level.Full trade credit is the case that the latter is allowed to defer whole payment to the end of credit period.In partial trade credit,however,the downstream supply chain member must pay for a proportion of the purchased goods at first,and can delay paying for the rest until the end of credit period.This paper considers a two-level trade credit,where the supplier offers order-quantity-dependent partial trade credit to a retailer,who suggests full trade credit to his customers.An economic order quantity(EOQ)inventory model of a deteriorating item with expiration dates is formulated here.Theoretical results are developed to obtain the optimal solutions to the problem.Numerical examples and sensitivity analysis are performed to justify the proposed models and theoretical results and managerial insights are provided.

The single machine parallel-batch scheduling with deteriorating jobs and rejection is considered in this paper.A job is either rejected,in which a rejection penalty should be paid,or accepted and processed on the machine.Each job’s processing time is an increasing linear function of its starting time.The machine can process any number of jobs simultaneously as a batch.The processing time of a batch is equal to the largest processing time of the jobs in the batch.The objectives are to minimize the makespan and the total weighted completion time,respectively,under the condition that the total rejection penalty cannot exceed a given upper bound Q.We show that both problems are NP-complete and present dynamic programming algorithms and fully polynomial time approximation schemes(FPTASs)for the considered problems.
