Component dependency is an important software measure. It is directly related to software understandability, maintainability, and reusability. Two important parameters in describing component dependency are the type of coupling between two components and the type of the dependent component. Depending upon the different types of coupling and the type of the dependent components, there can be different effects on component maintenance and component reuse. In this paper, we divide dependent components into three types. We then classify various component dependencies and analyze their effects on maintenance and reuse. Based on the classification, we present a dependency metric and validate it on 11 open-source Java components. Our study shows that a strong correlation exists between the measurement of the dependency of the component and the effort to reuse the component. This indicates that the classification of component dependency and the suggested metric could be further used to represent other external software quality factors.

Using SVM to construct a Chinese dependency parser

In Chinese, dependency analysis has been shown to be a powerful syntactic parser because the order of phrases in a sentence is relatively free compared with English. Conventional dependency parsers require a number of sophisticated rules that have to be handcrafted by linguists, and are too cumbersome to maintain. To solve the problem, a parser using SVM (Support Vector Machine) is introduced. First, a new strategy of dependency analysis is proposed. Then some chosen feature types are used for learning and for creating the modification matrix using SVM. Finally, the dependency of phrases in the sentence is generated. Experiments conducted to analyze how each type of feature affects parsing accuracy, showed that the model can increase accuracy of the dependency parser by 9.2%.

Background Available data regarding clinical profile and management of elderly patients with atrial fibrillation （AF） according to dependency, fragility and cognitive impairment are scarce. The objective of the study was to analyze the biodemographic data, clinical profile and antithrombotic treatment according to dependency, fragility and cognitive impairment in elderly AF patients. Methods Cross- sectional and multi-center study performed in consecutive AF patients ≥ 75 years treated with oral anticoagulants ≥ 3 months attended in Internal Medicine Departments in Spain. Results A total of 837 patients （83.0 ± 5.0 years; CHA2DS2-VASc： 5.0 ± 1.4; HAS-BLED： 2.1 ± 0.9） were included. 44.4% of patients had some degree of dependency, 43.3% were fragile, and 32.3% had cognitive impairment. Patients with any of these conditions were older, had a worse clinical profile, with more comorbidities and higher risks of thromboembolic and bleeding events. All these conditions were independently associated among them. Overall, 70.8% of patients were taking vitamin K antagonists, the remaining 29.2% direct oral anticoagulants and 9.7% oral antiplatelets. This distribution was independent of the presence of dependency or fragility, but there was a trend to a higher prescription of vitamin K antagonists in those patients with cognitive impairment （75.2% vs. 68.8%; P = 0.05）. Conclusions Approximately 32%-44% of elderly anticoagulated AF patients attended have some degree of dependency, fragility and/or cognitive impairment. Patients with any of these conditions are older and have a worse clinical profile. Ap？proximately 71% of patients are taking vitamin K antagonists, regardless dependency or frailty, but with a trend to higher prescription in patients with cognitive impairment.

As one of the most important indexes to evaluate the quality of software, software reliability experiences an increasing development in recent years. We investigate a software reliability growth model(SRGM). The application of this model is to predict the occurrence of the software faults based on the non-homogeneous Poisson process(NHPP). Unlike the independent assumptions in other models, we consider fault dependency. The testing faults are divided into three classes in this model: leading faults, first-step dependent faults and second-step dependent faults. The leading faults occurring independently follow an NHPP, while the first-step dependent faults only become detectable after the related leading faults are detected. The second-step dependent faults can only be detected after the related first-step dependent faults are detected. Then, the combined model is built on the basis of the three sub-processes. Finally, an illustration based on real dataset is presented to verify the proposed model.

To process the data with strong historical features, such as data in earthquake research,weather forecast, medical records and census, a new mathematical model of historical datasystem is proposed. This model can be characterized as ' relational database with timemark + histotical rule base = historical database', and it is easy to implement. The formaldescription of historical database and a special class of historical rules-premonitory de-pendency (abbreviated as PD)-are discussed, the poperties and inference axioms of PDare investigated. The soundness and completeness of the axioms are proved. The problemsabout the true-set of historical rules, such as the problems of emptyness, infiniteness,equivalence and containment are proved to be undecidable.

The sensitivity of the plasmonic sensor surfaces can be enhanced significantly if the sensor region is bent to U shape. Here, an experimental verification is done to evaluate the performance variations of the U-bent plasmonic silver coated sensor surfaces with different coating orientations inside the vacuum coating chamber. The performances of uncoated, partially coated as well as fully coated optical fiber U-bent surfaces are analyzed. The results show that the coating configuration of the U-bent surfaces can affect the sensing property. A fully silver coated sensor region outperforms the other two types of sensor surfaces with better sensing capability.
