The Ca(OH)_(2)/CaO thermochemical energy storage(TCES)system based on calcium looping has received extensive attention owing to its high energy storage density,prolonged energy storage time,and environmental friendliness.The heat storage process of the Ca(OH)_(2)/CaO TCES system in a mixed heating reactor was evaluated in this study,by employing a combination of direct and indirect heating modes.The dehydration process was studied experimentally,and a numerical model was established and verified based on the experimental results.The dehydration behavior of 500 g of Ca(OH)_(2) powder was investigated in a fixed-bed reactor with mixed heating.The experimental and simulation results indicated that mixed heating causes combined centripetal and horizontal propulsion.Heat input is the main limiting factor in the heat storage process,because the radial advance of the reaction is hindered by the low thermal conductivity of the solid reactant particles.Heat transmission partitions were added to enhance the performance of the reactor.The performance of the modified reactor was compared with that of a conventional reactor.The radial heat transmission partitions in the modified reactor effectively enhance the energy storage rate and reduce the reaction time by 59.5%compared with the reactor without partitions.

To the Editor:Current guidelines recommend resuscitation with≥30 mL/kg of crystalloid fluid immediately upon recognition of septic shock patients.[1]However,compliance with sepsis bundles requiring fluid administration to pre-specified goals has failed to improve mortality when compared with non-protocolized resuscitation.[2]An inappropriate fluid administration dosage,whether insuf-ficient or excessive,will increase the risk of harm.To our knowledge,few studies have been performed to evaluate the hemodynamic status during standard fluid resuscitation,fluid overload,and dehydration treatment in sepsis.Additionally,little is known about the relationship between fluid administration and altered hemodynamic states,especially changes in venous return,in sepsis.The usefulness of the mean systemic filling pressure(Pmsf)in guiding hemodynamic therapy has been investigated in recent studies.The mean systemic filling pressure(Pmsf)is determined by both vascular filling and vascular tone and the difference between Pmsf and central venous pressure(CVP)represents the driving pressure for the return of blood to the heart and thus for cardiac output(CO).

Anew layered Cu-formate hydrate of Cu(HCOO)2·1/3H2O is unique in its water content and the strongly waved (4,4) Cu-formate layers held by interlayer weak axial Cu-Oformate bonds and O-Hwater···Oformate hydrogen bonds. The crystal is in orthorhombic space group Pbcn, with cell parameters at 80 K:a=7.9777(2) Å, b=7.3656(2) Å, c=21.0317(5) Å(1 Å=10−1 nm), and V=1235.83(5) Å3. The Cu2+ ions are in the environments of a square pyramid and elongated octahedron, in a ratio of 1/2 within the structure. In the layer, Cu2+ ions are connected by anti-anti formates via short basal Cu-O bonds. The structure remains unchanged until the dehydration that produces the layered anhydrous β-Cu(HCOO)2, and the possible transformation mechanism, supported by diffraction evidence, is the reorganization of the Cu-Oformate bonds across the parent layers after dehydration. The two phases exhibit anisotropic thermal expansion behaviors closely relevant to the transverse thermal vibrations of the constituents. Cu(HCOO)2·1/3H2O is a 2-dimensional Heisenberg antiferromagnet, and exhibits a global spin-canted antiferromagnetism with the Néel temperature of 32.1 K. This is not only higher than that of the magnetically denser β-Cu(HCOO)2, but also the highest among the copper formate frameworks.

Isosorbide is a multi-purpose chemical that can be produced from renewable resources.Specifically,it has been investigated as a replacement for toxic bisphenol A(BPA)in the production of polycarbonate(PC).In this study,the synthesis of isosorbide by sorbitol dehydration using a cerium-based catalyst derived from calcined cerium(IV)sulfate(300°C,400°C,450°C,500°C,and 650°C)was investigated.The reaction occurred in a high-pressure reactor containing nitrogen gas.Advanced instrumental techniques were applied to analyze the characteristics of the calcined catalyst.The results showed that the calcined catalysts demonstrated different crystalline structures and sulfate species at different temperatures.However,the acidic properties(strength and amount)of the catalyst did not change with the calcination temperature.The cerium(IV)sulfate calcined at 400°C exhibited the best catalytic performance,achieving the highest isosorbide yield(55.7%)and complete conversion of sorbitol at 180°C,20 bar of N2,and 6 h using CeSO-400.The presence of a sulfate group on the catalyst was the most important factor in determining the catalytic performance of sorbitol dehydration to isosorbide.This work suggests that CeSO-400 catalysts may play an important role in reducing reaction conditions.

The non-isothermal deformation of soft mudrocks or clay soils is one of the most critical issues in energy and environmental related geotechnics.Clay-related geomaterials hold complex microstructure and mineral composition,which brings difficulty in investigating their thermo-mechanical behaviors.Previous studies pay little attention to the difference between a thermal plastic strain and the strain from clay dehydration.In this study,a new constitutive model is proposed for describing the thermoelastoplastic behaviors of clayey soils under water-saturated condition.The effect of temperature variation and mechanical loading on elastoplastic strains and dehydration are investigated.The thermodynamics laws and the unconventional plasticity are applied to quantify the thermo-mechanical behavior.The irreversible strain is captured by using Cam-Clay plasticity and subloading yield surface concept.The dehydration strain is described by utilizing a novel method based on generalized thermodynamics approach and Helmholtz free energy function.The internal variables,and the first and second laws of thermodynamics are applied in the model.The hardening rule is established by implementing the laws of physical conservation,energy dissipation,and plastic flow.The proposed model is validated using specially designed thermal consolidation tests on laboratory prepared heavily consolidated clayey soils and some published data of clayey soils with different geological origins.

Objective:To determine the risk factors for dehydration in elderly people in one of Elbehira Governorate’s villages.Methods:A descriptive correlational design was utilized in this study.The study was conducted at Elnemaria village,Markaz Abo Elmatamir,Elbehira Governorate,Egypt.Data were collected using 3 tools:a structured interviewing questionnaire,a dehydration knowledge questionnaire,and a dehydration risk appraisal checklist.Results:The study found that 29.5%of the par ticipants were aged between 65 and 70.Males constituted 51%of the study par ticipants.The majority of the study participants regularly took anti-acids,anti-inflammatory drugs,and diuretics.Among the elderlies comprising the respondents,40%had a low level of knowledge regarding dehydration.More than half of the study subjects were at moderate risk for dehydration.Conclusions:The study showed that half of the par ticipants had diabetes and a medium level of information about dehydration.The study also showed in general that the elderly in the village are exposed to a moderate dehydration rate,and there is also a strong relationship between taking different types of medication and the occurrence of dehydration.

Background: Aged skin exhibits visual alterations such as wrinkles, rough texture, pore dilation, and dull skin tone, as well as physiological aging, namely, decreased hydration and increased transepidermal water loss (TEWL). Recent advances in coherence tomography have also revealed that skin aging affects in vivo epidermal keratinocyte architecture. However, the interconnectivity between spatial architectural aging and visual/physiological aging parameters remains largely unknown. Purpose: To elucidate whether the tomographic keratinocyte architectural aging is correlated with visual and physiological skin aging parameters and to quantitatively evaluate the improvements of the architectural, visual, and physiological aging parameters by the daily treatment of the skin care formula containing Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate (GFF, 8X PiteraTM). Method: We measured the in vivo keratinocyte cellular architecture with two-photon stereoscopic tomography obtaining by-layer epidermal section images in 78 Asian females of various ages. Visual aging parameters were analyzed using a portable image capture system. Hydration and TEWL were also assessed. The anti-aging effects of GFF-containing skin moisturizer (SK-II LXP CreamTM) were also examined in two studies after twice-daily application for 2 (N = 35) and 4 (N = 32) weeks. Results: As for the keratinocyte cellular architecture, skin aging was significantly associated with decreased cell density and increased cell uniformity. These architectural aging parameters were significantly correlated with visual and physiological aging parameters, namely, rough texture, wrinkles, pore dilation, dull skin tone, dehydration, and increased TEWL. The strong interconnectivity allowed us to develop formulae to estimate the keratinocyte architecture from visual aging parameters. Moreover, twice-daily application of SK-II significantly improved the keratinocyte architecture associated with multiple skin aging visual and physiological parameters. Conclusion: Skin agi

As dehydration is related to negative health outcomes in the elderly,including an increased risk of disability and death,prevention may help improve health,functional status,and quality of life.dehydration diagnosis can be challenging in the elderly as the traditional physical indications of dehydration may be absent or ambiguous.Numerous etiologies place the elderly at an increased risk.The role of the community health nurse(CHN)derives from the responsibilities attached to her,and the Betty Neuman’s Systems Model of health care with three levels of protection is usually applied to the CHN.In this mini-review,we try to integrate the Betty Neuman’s Systems Model with the results of identified articles.This study includes a literature search of reputable international databases such as SpringerLink,PubMed,Embase,and Wanfang,particularly for the period 2005 to the present.Ten articles that met the qualifying criteria were included in this study.The findings of this study draw a picture of the role of CHN in preventing dehydration across the three levels of prevention as mentioned by Betty Neuman.

Subducting oceanic slabs undergo metamorphic dehydration with the increase of temperature and pressure during subduction.dehydration is an essential step for element recycling,and slab fluids are critical agents for mediating slab-mantle interaction.dehydration is mainly controlled by the thermal structure of subduction zones and the stability of hydrous minerals.At fore-arc depths,slab dehydration produces aqueous fluid with dissolved salts such as NaCl.As subduction proceeds deeper,the content of silicate components increases.At sub-arc and post-arc depths,a hydrous silicate melt is likely to form,or a supercritical fluid could arise from complete miscibility between silicates and H_(2)O.The partitioning of elements between slab fluid and the residual solid rock is controlled by the type of fluid,and generally it is the supercritical fluid that is the most capable of mobilizing trace elements,being an effective carrier even for high field strength elements.Understanding the chemistry of slab fluids relies on sophisticated integration of experiments,theoretical computation and investigation of natural rock samples.This contribution focuses on the content and speciation of key volatiles,including carbon,nitrogen and sulfur,in slab fluids as well as important fluid properties such as oxygen fugacity and acidity.The properties of slab fluids show complicated variation under the control of mineral assemblages and T-P conditions.Slab fluids at great depths of subductions have been inferred to be modestly alkaline and not necessarily very oxidizing as often assumed.Further progress in the research of slab dehydration and the chemistry and properties of slab fluids demands urgently the development of innovative experimental and computational technology including in situ analytical methods at high T-P.

Phosphoric acid treated niobic acid(NbP)was used for the dehydration of xylose to furfural in biphasic solvent system,which was found to exhibit the best performance among the tested catalysts.The excellent performance of NbP could be explained by the better synergistic cooperation between Bro¨nsted and Lewis acid sites.Moreover,NbP showed good stability and no obvious deactivation or leaching of Nb could be observed after six continuous recycles.
