Objective:To describe the occurrence of various spinal deformations in a captive-bred wild line of Poecilia wingei(***).Methods:Fish belonging to a wild line of *** caught from Laguna de Los Patos,Venezuela,were bred in an aquarium home-breeding system during a period of three years(2006-2009).The spinal curvature was observed to study spinal deformities in ***:Out of a total of 600 fish,22 showed different types of deformities(scoliosis,lordosis,kyphosis),with a higher incidence in ***,swimming and breeding of deformed fish were generally ***:Possible causes for spinal curvature in fish are discussed on the basis of the current *** it is not possible to determine the exact cause(s)of spinal deformities observed in the present study,traumatic injuries,nutritional imbalances,genetic defects or a combination of these factors can be supposed to be involved in the pathogenesis of such lesions.

Antimicrobial silver nanoparticle induces organ deformities in the developing Zebrafish (Danio rerio) embryos

Silver Nanoparticles were synthesized by Esche- richia coli using Silver nitrate in the growth me-dium and characterized in X-Ray Diffraction, UV-Vis Spectrophotometer and Scanning Electron Microscope. They exhibited antimicrobial activity against human pathogens except Escherichia Coli. Nanoparticles were impregnated in yarn and ana-lyzed for their inhibition in the broth culture. The Minimal Inhibitory Concentratio was calculated for the human pathogens in Microtitre plate. The toxicity assessment of the nanoparticles in the embry-onic Zebrafish showed many organogensis deformi-ties like cardiac malformations, eye and head edema, tail and trunk flexure were observed in the organ system of the developing embryos for 1 to 5 day post fertilization in different concentrations of Ag Nanoparticles. The Organogenesis disruptive effects were found in 14 - 20 ng/ml of silver nanoparticles but the inhibition was found in 4-10ng/ml for the pathogens in vitro and 10ng/ml in embryos. Nevertheless, in Cardiac assay, the Heart Beat rates were calculated as 42 - 45 for 15 Sec in the concentrations ranging from 10 - 20 ng/ml of Silver nanoparticles. The blood flows, rhythmicity, contractility of heart beat rates were observed normal. The Mean value of blood Cell counting did not showed any notable effects in the Nanoparticle treated Zebrafish embryos and control. The LC50 value for the Biosynthesized nanoparticle was at 22 ng/ml in all the developmental stages of the em-bryos. Our results shows silver nanoparticles dis-rupts the normal organogenesis during development and further detailed studies are needed to prove silver nanopartcles are an antimicrobial agent for use in humans.

Calcaneovalgus foot deformities are present in up to 35% of patients with lumbar spina bifida. Resultant heel weight bearing causes complications include those associated w让h pressure ulcers. Early surgical reconstruction is advocated to prevent deformity progression and rigidity. Several surgical techniques in paediatric populations have been described, but there remains a paucity of literature regarding reconstruction of chronic calcaneovalgus feet in adults. This case report describes our experience using the Ilizarov technique in the reconstruction of an adult presenting with chro nic calcaneovalgus feet. This is a 34-year-old lady with myelomeningocoele spina bifida of lumbar level 5 who presented with a history of multiple admissions for cellulitis and infections of bilateral heel pressure sores. Rigid calcaneovalgus deformities of both feet (45° on the right, 40° on the left) were noted on clinical examination and radiological investigations. Reconstruction with an Ilizarov frame allowed for gradual correction of both soft tissue and bone, correcting heel weight bearing ambulation, with the aim of preventing further complications from infected heel ulcers. While the correction of bony deformities is crucial, management of chronically contracted soft tissue must not be overlooked. An Ilizarov frame requires both an experienced surgeon and a motivated patient, but it allows for accurate reconstruction of bony deferm让ies, while allowing management of surrounding chronic soft tissue contractures with good functional outcome.

Evaluation of different formulations of IGRs against Aedes albopictus and Culex quinquefasciatus(Diptera:Culicidae)

Objective: To test the relative efficacy of pyriproxyfen and methoprene on mortality,deformity, inhibition and emergence to adult stages of Culex quinquefasciatus and Aedes ***: Serial dilutions(0.01–0.05 mg/L) of methoprene, pyriproxyfen 0.5 water dispersible granules(WDG) and pyriproxyfen 1.0 WDG were used to assess mortality and inhibition of 3rd instar larvae of Aedes albopictus and Culex quinquefasciatus. Each concentration and control was replicated four times in completely randomized *** on larval mortality, growth inhibition, deformities and adult's emergence was recorded weekly. On the basis of best comparative performance, the efficacy of pyriproxyfen 1.0 WDG at 0.1 g/m3 was also tested in the field by collecting treated water samples monthly for 1–6 months after field application. Twenty five 3rd instar larvae of Aedes and Culex spp. of the same cohorts were used for bioassays and compared with larvae in control cups containing 1 L of untreated tap ***: Results revealed variations in fatality of different insect growth regulators(IGRs) to the 3rd instar larvae of Culex and Aedes mosquitoes. Among the IGRs, pyriproxyfen 1.0 WDG was found best that exhibited significantly high emergence inhibition against Culex and Aedes spp. Based on the results, the IGRs were classified in terms of the tested parameters in order of pyriproxyfen 1.0 WDG > pyriproxyfen 0.5WDG > methoprene. In case of field studies, pyriproxyfen 1.0 WDG, pool data of the entire target treated sites showed minimum adult emergence from water sampled of habitats treated with 0.1 g/m3 of pyriproxyfen 1.0 ***: It is thus concluded that IGRs can be utilized as environment friendly control measures for Culex and Aedes spp. of mosquitoes on small and large scale. This will reduce the use of conventional insecticides by the public health authorities and help in reducing selection pressure of insecticides.

A simple overview of daily orthodontic practice involves use of brackets, wires and elastomeric modules. However, investigating the underlying effect of orthodontic forces shows various molecular and cellular changes. Also, orthodontics is in close relation with dentofacial orthopedics which involves bone regeneration. In this review current and future applications of stem cells(SCs) in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics have been discussed. For craniofacial anomalies, SCs have been applied to regenerate hard tissue(such as treatment of alveolar cleft) and soft tissue(such as treatment of hemifacial macrosomia). Several attempts have been done to reconstruct impaired temporomandibular joint. Also, SCs with or without bone scaffolds and growth factors have been used to regenerate bone following distraction osteogenesis of mandibular bone or maxillary expansion. Current evidence shows that SCs also have potential to be used to regenerate infrabony alveolar defects and move the teeth into regenerated areas. Future application of SCs in orthodontics could involve accelerating tooth movement, regenerating resorbed roots and expanding tooth movement limitations. However, evidence supporting these roles is weak and further studies are required to evaluate the possibility of these ideas.

BACKGROUND Limb lengthening techniques play an increasingly important role in the pediatric orthopedic *** principles of the osteogenesis distraction bonded traditionally with external fixators;however,the recent deployment of fully implantable systems has been able to overcome severities related to external *** PRECICE®is an implantable limb lengthening intramedullary nail system that is remotely controlled and magnetically *** To review the current literature available on this matter in order to assess the PRECICE clinical and radiological outcomes and its possible complications in a population of pediatric patients undergoing limb *** Only five studies met the inclusion criteria and were consequently included in the review for a total of 131 patients and 135 *** clinical and radiological outcomes of interest were:the main lengthening obtained,the distraction rate,the period of time to full weight bearing,the consolidation index,and the Association for the Study and Application of Methods of Ilizarov *** In conclusion,data collected from the articles under investigation were comparable with the exception of the consolidation ***,the study population was too small and the patients’follow-up was too short to make definitive *** This review shows that the PRECICE Nail System is still a therapeutic challenge in limb lengthening for pediatric orthopedic surgeons;however,careful preoperative planning and an accurate surgical technique could allow the correction of more complex deformities with a low rate of complications.

This study intends to explore and analysis the portrayal of self-damaging behavior, which encapsulates two female characters： Lady Dedlock and Mademoiselle Hortense in one of the most famous novels of Charles Dickens＇ Bleak House （1984）. An evaluation of these two female characters shows and reflects that their self-damaging behavior emerges from low self esteem, which results from a number of reasons. The self-damaging behavior introduced by these women involves： self-imposed isolation, women madness, purposive accidents, physical self-abuse, and most consequently, conscious pursuit of destructive relationships with men. Although Dickens clearly means no maliciousness to women in his works, the great Victorian marital upheaval of June, 1858, is illustrative of Dickens＇s ambivalent attitude towards women, especially towards strong women

Fourier Transforms of Tubular Objects with Spiral Structures

Crystal structures of several naturally occurring minerals are known to contain various deformities such as cones, cylinders, and tapered hollow cylinders with different apex angles, which have been described as solid and hollow cones, “cups”, “lampshades” as well as rolled cylindrical planes. The present study was undertaken to determine how these different shapes within a crystal structure can be explained. Since the usual method of observing them is by either X-ray and electron diffraction or electron microscopy, we investigated Fourier transforms of these forms, which were considered in terms of spirals with varying radii. Three types of spirals were considered, namely: 1) Archimedean spiral;2) Involute of a circle or power spiral and 3) Logarithmic spiral. Spiraling caused the radius r to be modified by a factor f(θ), so that r becomes rf(θ), where f(θ) = θ for Archimedean helix, θn for power helices like θ1/2 for Fermat’s helix, θ-1 for hyperbolic helix and eθ or e-θ for logarithmic helix, r and θ being co-ordinates of the map on which the helix has to be drawn, f(θ) is unaffected by the magnitude of r. Expressions have been derived that explain the diffraction of structures containing the distortions described above, and bring all of these phenomena under one “umbrella” of a comprehensive theory.
