Data fusion and sensor selection from imperfect sources with regards to the operating environment

Purpose–The purpose of this paper is to extend the work of fusing sensors with a Bayesian method to incorporate the sensor’s reliability with regard to their operating *** results are then to be used with the expected decision formula,conditional entropy and mutual information for suboptimally selecting which types of sensors should be fused where there are operational ***/methodology/approach–The approach is an extension of previous work incorporating an environment *** expected decision formula then forms the basis for sensor ***–The author found that the performance of the sensors is correlated to the environment of operation,given that the likelihood of error will be higher in a difficult terrain than would otherwise be the ***,the author also shows the sensors for fusion will vary if the author knows specifically which terrain the sensors will be operating *** limitations/implications–The author notes that in order for this technique to be effective,a proper understanding of the limitations of the sensors,possible terrain types and targets have to be *** implications–The practical implication of this work is the ability to assess the performance of fused sensors according to the environment or terrain they might be operating under,thus providing a greater level of sensitivity than would otherwise be the ***/value–The author has extended previous ideas on sensor fusion from imprecise and uncertain sources using a Bayesian technique,as well as developed techniques regarding which sensors should be chosen for fusion given payload or other constraints.

In this paper, decision making in complex environment is considered and an approach integrating quantitative decision model with qualitative judgment is proposed. The concept of belief degree for quantitative decision model in a complex environment is presented. The integration in formulation and reasoning of quantitative model with qualitative judgment is studied. The combination of various belief degree generated by quantitative model and qualitative judgment is discussed. A decision rule of tradeoff between optimality and belief degree of optimality is proposed.

This paper demonstrates that we should use two different hierarchic composition methods for the two different types of levels in the AHP. The first method is using the weighted geometric mean to synthesize the judgments of alternative-type-level elements, which is the only hierarchic composition method for the alternative-type level in an AHP hierarchy, and the rank is preserved automatically. The second one is using the weighted arithmetic mean to synthesize the priorities of the criteria-type-level elements, which is the only hierarchic composition method for all the criteria-type levels, and rank reversals are allowed.

We propose a memory-based naming game （MBNG） model which is like some previous opinion propagation models. with two-state variables in full-connected networks, It is found that this model is deeply affected by the memory decision parameter, and then its dynamical behaviour can be partly analysed by using numerical simulation and analytical argument. We also report a modified MBNG model with the forgetting curve of Ebbinghaus in the memory. With deletion of one parameter in the MBNG model, it can converge to success rate S（t） = 1 and the average sum E（t） is decided by the size of network N.

This scientific study focuses on the economic and especially the psychosocial factors of success in negotiation processes between buyers （procurers） and suppliers （producers） in the food trade. In particular, it examines the economic and mental satisfaction in the decision-making and in the negotiation processes for efficient food supply. It is examined primarily as transparency in addition to Harvard concept at annual meetings （or between the year） favoring a satisfactory result for both negotiators. In a structural equation model, the Harvard negotiating points are brought with transparency in communication and this in terms of economic success experiences and the sociomental satisfaction.

Assessing probabilities for relevant and sometimes unique events in real-world decision situations can be problematic. This paper elucidates a 2-step process for assigning probabilities to relevant events enabling a rational decision process to supersede decision choices based only on a gut feeling. After assessing probabilities the decision maker can confirm or reverse a gut feeling choice using expected values for each available act and traditional decision theory methodology. A simple example involving a buy now or buy later situation with market uncertainty illustrates the process for typical yes or no decisions.
