Effect of trigger system on experimental dispersion characteristics of active surface wave testing

A trigger system is typically employed in active seismic testing to trigger and synchronize multichannel surface wave data acquisition.The effect of the trigger system on the dispersion image of surface waves is empirically known to be negligible,however,theoretical explanation regarding the effect of the trigger system is insufficient.This study systematically examines the theory for surface wave dispersion analysis and proves that the effect of the trigger system on a dispersion image is negligible via a solid theoretical explanation.Subsequently,based on the new theoretical explanation,an alternative method that uses only the relative phase difference between sensors to extract dispersion characteristics with better conceptual clarity is proposed.Two active surface wave testing cases are considered to validate the theory and method.The results indicate that(1)an accurate trigger system is not necessary for surface wave data acquisition,and(2)it is unnecessary to assume that the impact point is the generation point of the surface waves for the experimental dispersion analysis.

The high energy cosmic-radiation detection(HERD)facility is planned to launch in 2027 and scheduled to be installed on the China Space Station.It serves as a dark matter particle detector,a cosmic ray instrument,and an observatory for high-energy gamma rays.A transition radiation detector placed on one of its lateral sides serves dual purpose,(ⅰ)calibrating HERD's electromagnetic calorimeter in the TeV energy range,and(ⅱ)serving as an independent detector for high-energy gamma rays.In this paper,the prototype readout electronics design of the transition radiation detector is demonstrated,which aims to accurately measure the charge of the anodes using the SAMPA application specific integrated circuit chip.The electronic performance of the prototype system is evaluated in terms of noise,linearity,and resolution.Through the presented design,each electronic channel can achieve a dynamic range of 0–100 fC,the RMS noise level not exceeding 0.15 fC,and the integral nonlinearity was<0.2%.To further verify the readout electronic performance,a joint test with the detector was carried out,and the results show that the prototype system can satisfy the requirements of the detector's scientific goals.

Background The Gravitational Wave High-energy Electromagnetic Counterpart All-sky Monitor(GECAM)consists of 2 microsatellites,each of which contains 25 GRD(LaBr3)detectors and 8 CPD(plastic scintillator)detectors.Method silicon photomultiplier(SiPM)array is used to read each detector.The output signal of these detectors with SiPM array is very special and challenging to readout.In this study,a novel data acquisition(DAQ)algorithm for these detectors is designed and implemented,and the content of the output event packet is defined.Result and Conclusion The performances,including the event acquisition efficiency of this DAQ algorithm,are extensively verified through experimental tests.From the on-ground and in-flight tests,this algorithm has excellent performance despite the very limited resources and short development time of GECAM mission.

LiDAR-based estimation of bounding box coordinates using Gaussian process regression and particle swarm optimization

Camera-based object tracking systems in a given closed environment lack privacy and confidentiality.In this study,light detection and ranging(LiDAR)was applied to track objects similar to the camera tracking in a closed environment,guaranteeing privacy and confidentiality.The primary objective was to demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed technique through carefully designed experiments conducted using two scenarios.In Scenario I,the study illustrates the capability of the proposed technique to detect the locations of multiple objects positioned on a flat surface,achieved by analyzing LiDAR data collected from several locations within the closed environment.Scenario II demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed technique in detecting multiple objects using LiDAR data obtained from a single,fixed location.Real-time experiments are conducted with human subjects navigating predefined paths.Three individuals move within an environment,while LiDAR,fixed at the center,dynamically tracks and identifies their locations at multiple instances.Results demonstrate that a single,strategically positioned LiDAR can adeptly detect objects in motion around it.Furthermore,this study provides a comparison of various regression techniques for predicting bounding box coordinates.Gaussian process regression(GPR),combined with particle swarm optimization(PSO)for prediction,achieves the lowest prediction mean square error of all the regression techniques examined at 0.01.Hyperparameter tuning of GPR using PSO significantly minimizes the regression error.Results of the experiment pave the way for its extension to various real-time applications such as crowd management in malls,surveillance systems,and various Internet of Things scenarios.

Virtual natural phenomena obtained through mathematical-physical modeling and simulation as well as graphics emulation can meet the user’s requirements for sensory experiences to a certain extent but they can hardly have the same accurate physical consistency as real natural phenomena.The technology for data acquisition and natural phenomena simulation can enable us to obtain multi-dimensional and multi-modal data directly from real natural phenomena and,based on these real data,to establish digital models highly consistent with real natural phenomena in appearance,physics,behavior or many other aspects,thus making a virtual natural phenomenon a direct mapping of real natural phenomenon.This approach is conducive to resolving problems concerning the reliability and availability of virtual reality.At present the technology for acquiring and simulating dada of natural phenomena is still in its initial stage.This paper gives a review of the related investigations.Firstly,we briefly introduce the basic methods and techniques concerned,then,based on the difference between the basic elements of various natural phenomena,we discuss the current studies on such natural phenomena as light,water,fire,smoke,dynamic terrain,etc.,and finally,in connection with issues in the present research and possible future direction of development,we put forth a number of theoretical and technical problems,hoping they can be resolved in the near future.

data acquisition System for Electron Energy Loss Coincident Spectrometers

A data acquisition System （DAQ） for electron energy loss coincident spectrometers （EELCS） has been developed. The system is composed of a Multiplex Time-Digital Converter （TDC） that measures the flying time of positive and negative ions and a one-dimension positionsensitive detector that records the energy loss of scattering electrons. The experimental data are buffered in a first-in-first-out（FIFO） memory module, then transferred from the FIFO memory to PC by the USB interface. The DAQ system can record the flying time of several ions in one collision, and allows of different data collection modes. The system has been demonstrated at the Electron Energy Loss Coincident Spectrometers at the Laboratory of Atomic and Molecular Physics, USTC. A detail description of the whole system is given and experimental results shown.

The development of data acquisition and control system for extraction power supply of prototype RF ion source

A 16 kV/20 A power supply was developed for the extraction grid of prototype radio frequency（RF） ion source of neutral beam injector. To acquire the state signals of extraction grid power supply（EGPS） and control the operation of the EGPS, a data acquisition and control system has been developed. This system mainly consists of interlock protection circuit board, photoelectric conversion circuit, optical fibers, industrial compact peripheral component interconnect（CPCI） computer and host computer. The human machine interface of host computer delivers commands and data to program of the CPCI computer, as well as offers a convenient client for setting parameters and displaying EGPS status. The CPCI computer acquires the status of the power supply. The system can turn-off the EGPS quickly when the faults of EGPS occur. The system has been applied to the EGPS of prototype RF ion source. Test results show that the data acquisition and control system for the EGPS can meet the requirements of the operation of prototype RF ion source.

Sitting or Standing data acquisition Based Breast Ultrasound Computed Tomography

Ultrasound computed tomography(UCT)is a promising approach for early breast cancer screening.However, current studies which use prone posture to collect breast ultrasonic data cause four problems, a long non-data-acquisition time, inconvenient, possible chances for cross infection, and a large area occupied by equipment.The purpose of this study is to estimate a complete breast UCT image by using sitting or standing data acquisition, which can obtains a more rapid, convenient and sanitary examination process, and a less space occupied by equipment. Therefore, this study proposes a sitting or standing data acquisition based breast UCT method, which is a more practical data acquisition method for breast UCT. This study places a uniform soft sleeve on the outside of the breast so that it would not be deformed significantly due to the change of body posture. Because the soft sleeve is an influencing factor from outside for breast imaging, this study discusses the considerations for selecting that. Computer simulations are conducted to prove the effectiveness of the proposed method. Results suggest that, by using a soft sleeve whose sound speed is between 1450 m/s and 1550 m/s, the proposed method is effective; the biases of the reconstructed images are less than 1% under the 5% noise condition.

The development of data acquisition and processing application system for RF ion source

As the key ion source component of nuclear fusion auxiliary heating devices, the radio frequency （RF） ion source is developed and applied gradually to offer a source plasma with the advantages of ease of control and high reliability. In addition, it easily achieves long-pulse steady-state operation. During the process of the development and testing of the RF ion source, a lot of original experimental data will be generated. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a stable and reliable computer data acquisition and processing application system for realizing the functions of data acquisition, storage, access, and real-time monitoring. In this paper, the development of a data acquisition and processing application system for the RF ion source is presented. The hardware platform is based on the PXI system and the software is programmed on the LabVIEW development environment. The key technologies that are used for the implementation of this software programming mainly include the long-pulse data acquisition technology, multi- threading processing technology, transmission control communication protocol, and the Lempel-Ziv-Oberhumer data compression algorithm. Now, this design has been tested and applied on the RF ion source. The test results show that it can work reliably and steadily. With the help of this design, the stable plasma discharge data of the RF ion source are collected, stored, accessed, and monitored in real-time. It is shown that it has a very practical application significance for the RF experiments.

Development and Integration of a data acquisition System for SST-1 Phase-1 Plasma Diagnostics

Long pulse （of the order of 1000 s or more） SST-1 tokamak experiments demand a data acquisition system that is capable of acquiring data from various diagnostics channels without losing useful data （and hence physics information） while avoiding unnecessary generation of a large volume data. SST-1 Phase-1 tokamak operation has been envisaged with data acquisition of several essential diagnostics channels. These channels demand data acquisition at a sampling rate ranging from 1 kilo samples per second （KSPS） to 1 mega samples per second （MSPS）. Considering the technical characteristics and requirements of the diagnostics, a data acquisition system based on PXI and CAMAC has been developed for SST-1 plasma diagnostics. Both these data acquisition systems are scalable. Present data acquisition needs involving slow plasma diagnostics are catered by the PXI based data acquisition system. On the other hand, CAMAC data acquisition hardware meets all requirements of the SST-1 Phase-1 fast plasma diagnostics channels. A graphical user interface for both data acquisition systems （PXI and CAMAC） has been developed using LabVIEW application development software. The collected data on the local hard disk are directly streaming to the central server through a dedicated network for post-shot data analysis. This paper describes the development and integration of the data acquisition system for SST-1 Phase-1 plasma diagnostics. The integrated testing of the developed data acquisition system has been performed using SST-1 central control and diagnostics signal conditioning units. In the absence of plasma shots, the integrated testing of the data acquisition system for the initial diagnostics of SST-1 Phase-1 operation has been performed with simulated physical signals. The primary engineering objective of this integrated testing is to validate the performance of the developed data acquisition system under simulated conditions close to that of actual tokamak operation.
