The End of Western Marxism?On the Unravelling of an Ideological Structure

This study examines the proposition that the ideological structure of“Western Marxism”began to unravel after 1989 and the end of the Cold War,and that it is now largely falling apart.The argument proceeds in three steps,the first of which is an overview of Western Marxism’s ideological structure.The second step analyses a number of deeply critical assessments of Western Marxism from within the contexts of the few countries of the world that make up the“West.”The fact that these critical and often polemical studies are appearing indicates the breakdown of Western Marxism’s former hegemony.The third step deals with more constructive material,including the Western“recovery”of Engels,and especially the dialectics of nature,as well as the impact of the major achievements in the theory and practice of Marxism from developing countries,in the context of socialism in power.

The term of“Classical Realism”was derivate from the dominate discourse of realism and used for studies of Chinese ancient vernacular novels ever since 1950s.Wu Zuxiang took this term and organized his analysis of Dream of the Red Chamber with the Marxist literary theories.Wu's adoption of realism principle might be defended as a strategic cover for that the discussion of literary skills would be labeled as bourgeois in that period.This paper attempts to argue that the framework of Marxist literary criticism had indicated the transformation of scientific method of literature analysis.And Wu's remark of Dream of the Red Chamber as the“great work of Classical Realism”is rather a conclusion from his consistent reflection on new literature after May Fourth,rather than the influence of ideological construction.

We want to congratulate the authors for this successful review article and make some contributions.The article explains that Avicenna mentioned Galen in his famous medical book—The Cannon of Medicine, in detail.

Fiction and Repetition is and will remain a distinguished deconstructionist guide of literary criticism. However, after detailed and systematic research, I also find some shortcomings in this important academic work: Firstly, written in the metaphysical language, Fiction and Repetition can never succeed in escaping the logocentrism and binary opposition inherent in this language.Secondly, based on Saussure's argument on langue, the monograph's view of indeterminacy of literary work's meaning is theoretically correct but practically inadequate. Last but not the least, Miller's proposal on repetition also has some limitations. By taking into account both the work's merits and demerits, we can gain a more comprehensive outlook on Miller's idea of repetition as well as the deconstruction theory of literary criticism in general.

The architectural design studio course is generally considered the backbone of any architectural curriculum and follows a particular method of problem solving,which makes it a distinctive course.Graduation projects in most of the architectural programs are divided into two main phases,namely,research and project phases.Students generate many findings from the research phase that are considered challenges.The research problem emerges when students finish writing the research thesis,and most face difficulty in translating the collected data into actions to engage the initial idea of the project.Therefore,this study aims to high-light the transitional stage between the research and schematic design phases,which is described in this study as the"predesign bridging phase."The goal is to propose a practical strategy for bridging the gap between the research and schematic design phases to facilitate derivation of the design concept from different output variables to enable the creation of a suitable architectural morphological language.The study adopts two research methods.One is proposing a new pedagogical framework and applying it to the architectural graduation design studio at Prince Sultan University in Riyadh,Saudi Arabia.The other is conducting a survey among students to evaluate the efficiency of the proposed framework in helping them bridge the gap between the research and schematic design phases.Descriptive and inferential statistics analysis methods are used to analyze the research data and study the correlation between the reflection of the new applied framework in the predesign bridging phase and the students'satisfaction toward the final projects'product and performance in the final critique.This study ends with a conclusion on how the applied teaching strategies facilitate the project starting point and raises the importance of proposing and testing new assessment strategies that are suitable for each phase in the graduation design studio.

The design studio environment has remained the same throughout the past century. As the Studio Culture Task Force of the American Institute of Architecture Students （ALAS）（Koch et al., 2006） noted, the ongoing changes in architecture education are not aligned with today＇s fastchanging world, especially in the context of architectural practice. The AlAS analyzed the design studio problem and expressed doubts on the effectiveness of current studio practices in providing adequate design-thinking education. The report indicates that studio culture values project appearance instead of the actual design process. In recent years, similar problems have been the topic of debates in Khartoum. criticisms are mostly centered on the observation that students show no interest in the design process and tend to focus on form making. As a result, efforts to teach design methods and to restore the balance between creativity and rationality in the design process have failed. The reason is related to the difficulties associated with the implicit nature of conventional design methods. These difficulties, which are common in architecture schools, include the lack of a clearly defined design methodology and the misunderstood role of the systematic approach to design in the studio. Nevertheless, signs of change are gradually emerging, as demonstrated by the global call for change in the studio environment. This call for change indicates a general agreement on the need for the reorientation of architectural design education toward an engaging policy that considers the social responsibility of architects. This study proposes that the route for change is through the return of rationalism in the studio. Since the 1960 s, many writers have recognized the importance of balancing rationality and creativity, which are mutually interdependent, in the design process. From this perspective, the research question is drawn： how can we bridge the gap between the rational and the creative design activities in the design process？ A theory that concept

A Rose for Emily is a short story written by William Faulkner, an American modernist novelist, in the first half of the 20th century. This paper tries to analyze the class structure and class discrimination in the Southern United States from the perspective of Western Marxist literary criticism in the 19th to 20th centuries of the text, and further expand the thematic significance of the literary text.

The“Productivity”of literary criticism refers to the composition of the literary organization that constitutes the text and its contradictions and deficiencies in the reading activities,and actively explores the meaning of the text,and discovers what is not spoken in the text,and separates the meaning of the text,that is,criticism is an interpretation of practice and productive behavior.Since the 20th century,Althusser,Macherey,Jameson,and Eagleton have revealed the complex relationship between text form and ideology and social history,aiming at clarifying the process of text structure participating in the entire literary production.The creativity and constructiveness of productive criticism is also in line with the trend of contemporary literary criticism from textual criticism to cultural criticism.The reason why criticism is productive is that it can roughly seek the reasons for its existence from the aspects of linguistics,reception aesthetics and paradigm.
