critical discourse analysis mainly focuses on news reports, official documents and non-literature discourses to reveal the relation between language use, ideology and power. This paper adopts John O’Regen’s TACO model to study prime minister Cameron’s speech in order to analyze the discourse strategies and the political intention. Furthermore, it reveals the importance that the discourse analysis has in conveying the ideology.

The inaugural address of American president is the manifesto of a new president,the audiences not only include the whole American citizen,but people all over the *** content,it not only retrospects the history of the America,but also passes on to the policies of the ruling party and the ideologies of the mainstream ***,analyzing the inaugural address of the new president from the perspective of critical discourse analysis can not only disclose the hidden ideology on the back of the discourse,but also discover the feedback of the discourse on the *** thesis tries to analyze the inaugural address of John ***,the 35th president of the United States,from lexical,syntactic and textual levels,for the purpose of discovering the specific hidden ideology and the feedback of the discourses have on the audiences.

This paper aims to explore the underlying ideologies as well as the relationship between news discourse and ideology by analyzing a news report on Saddam Hussein’s capture in New York Times from the perspective of critical discourse analysis. While making the analysis, this paper studies the details of linguistic features, transitivity, modality and thematic choice which are based on the three metafunctions of language proposed by Halliday in systemic-functional grammar, so as to reveal how news discourse is used by powerful groups to reinforce dominant ideologies, and to gain profound insights about the stance and attitude maintained in news reports.

The ability of English reading in foreign language teaching in China has always been valued. It has already become more and more widely and effective reading for us in the information age, therefore, the cultivation of reading ability is more and more important. But China’s traditional reading teaching is the explanation of grammar and interpretation of vocabulary in term of sentence, and the operation of sentence structure discontexted, which can’t analyze and explain the whole article as the discourse. Based on the previous reading theory, this paper analyses the importance of critical discourse analysis in English Reading Teaching in College through the case analysis.
