The counting method is a simple and efficient method for processing linear recursive datalog queries. Its time complexity is bounded by O(n.e), where n and e denote the numbers of nodes and edges, respectively, in the graph representing the input relations. In this paper, the concepts of heritage appearance function and heritage selection function are introduced, and an evaluation algorithm based on the computation of such functions in topological order is developed. This new algorithm requires only linear time in the case of non-cyclic data.

One active stalagmite from the Water Cave in Liaoning Province contains growth layers of three sizes. Based on thermal ionization mass spectrometry 230Th dating, we found that middle size layers are annual layers, with each middle layer consisting of one narrow dark layer and a wide bright layer. The small layers within middle layers are sub-annual layers and the large layers are multi-year layers. Based on the layer-counting method, we established a high-resolution time scale for layer thickness. Our results reveal two dramatic century-scale climate cycles over the past 1000 years in this region.

Deep learning and computer vision,using remote sensing and drones,are 2 promising nondestructive methods for plant monitoring and ***,their applications are infeasible for many crop systems under tree canopies,such as coffee crops,making it challenging to perform plant monitoring and phenotyping at a large spatial scale at a low *** study aims to develop a geographic-scale monitoring method for coffee cherry counting,supported by an artificial intelligence(AI)-powered citizen science *** approach uses basic smartphones to take a few pictures of coffee trees;2,968 trees were investigated with 8,904 pictures in Junin and Piura(Peru),Cauca,and Quindio(Colombia)in 2022,with the help of nearly 1,000 smallholder coffee ***,we trained and validated YOLO(You Only Look Once)v8 for detecting cherries in the dataset in *** average number of cherries per picture was multiplied by the number of branches to estimate the total number of cherries per *** model's performance in Peru showed an R^(2)of *** the model was tested in Colombia,where different varieties are grown in different biogeoclimatic conditions,the model showed an R^(2)of *** overall performance in both countries reached an R^(2)of *** results suggest that the method can be applied to much broader scales and is transferable to other varieties,countries,and *** our knowledge,this is the first AI-powered method for counting coffee cherries and has the potential for a geographic-scale,multiyear,photo-based phenotypic monitoring for coffee crops in low-income countries worldwide.

Estimating the number of people in Web images still remains a challenging problem owing to the perspective variation, different views, and diverse backgrounds. Existing deep learning models still have difficulties in dealing with scenarios where the size of a person is either extremely large or extremely small. In this paper, we propose a novel perspective-aware architecture to estimate the number of people in a crowd in web images. Specifically, we use a two-stage framework, where we first learn a policy network to infer the perspective of the target scene, which outputs a scale label for the subsequent perspective normalization. Next, given the aligned inputs, we further adjust the scale-specific counting network to regress the final count. Experiments on challenging datasets demonstrate our approach can deal with a large perspective variation and that we have achieved state-of-theart results.

Recently,optomechanical systems have emerged as promising platforms to perform quantum information processing .There has been considerable progress in the control of solid-state phonons at the quantum level,including the ground state cooling ,the generation of quantum correlated states between radiation fields and mechanical motion ,and mechanical squeezing . A unique feature of the optomechanical systems is the interconversion between stationary and flying (photonic)*** motion can serve as a universal transducer to mediate the long-range interactions between stationary quantum systems, including trapped ions,superconducting circuits,single charges,and spins in diamond or silicon ,enabling the construction of a hybrid quantum network that combines the otherwise incompatible degrees of the freedom of different physical systems.

For accurate counting of alpha tracks on the polyallyl diglycol carbonate of CR-39-type track detectors,the size distributions of both artifact tracks and alpha tracks were investigated with an automatic counting system. At the same temperature and etchant concentration, the numbers and sizes of alpha tracks changed significantly with the etching time, and the artifact track changes were smaller. At the etching time of 5 h, the sizes of alpha tracks were evidently larger than those of the artifact tracks, and the deviation of its size distribution was much smaller than those of longer etching time. Based on the size distribution of alpha tracks etched for 5 h, the overlap effect and uncertainty of overlap correction were studied by the Monte Carlo simulations for different track densities. It was found that the counting uncertainty of the system could be less than 6% in a density range of 10–160 tracks mm^(-2) after taking the overlap correction into account.
