Distributed media cooperation for enhanced video communication

The author designed two algorithms for distributed cooperation among multiple video streams sharing common communication resources. The algorithms take advantage of an optimization framework that characterizes video packets such that joint resource allocation can be implemented not only over the packets of a single stream, but also across packets of different streams. The first algorithm enables collaboration among multiple video senders in an 802.11 CSMA/CA wireless network such that their joint performance is maximized. Via the algorithm, the users cooperatively establish transmission priorities based on the assigned characterizations of their video packets. The second technique allows for low-complexity joint bandwidth adaptation of multiple video streams at intermediate network nodes in the Internet in order to maximize the overall network performance. The author analyzes the advantages of the proposed algorithms over conventional solutions employed in such scenarios. It is shown that depending on system parameters such as available network data rate the proposed techniques can provide substantial gains in end-to-end performance.

Computer animations of color markings revealthe function of visual threat signals inNeolamprologus pulcher

Visual signals, including changes in coloration and color patterns, are frequently used by animalsto convey information. During contests, body coloration and its changes can be used to assess anopponent＇s state or motivation. Communication of aggressive propensity is particularly importantin group-living animals with a stable dominance hierarchy, as the outcome of aggressive inter-actions determines the social rank of group members. Neolamprologus pulcher is a cooperativelybreeding cichlid showing frequent within-group aggression. Both sexes exhibit two vertical blackstripes on the operculum that vary naturally in shape and darkness. During frontal threat displaysthese patterns are actively exposed to the opponent, suggesting a signaling function. To investi-gate the role of operculum stripes during contests we manipulated their darkness in computeranimated pictures of the fish. We recorded the responses in behavior and stripe darkness of testsubjects to which these animated pictures were presented. Individuals with initially darker stripeswere more aggressive against the animations and showed more operculum threat *** stripes of test subjects became darker after exposure to an animation exhibiting a paleoperculum than after exposure to a dark operculum animation, highlighting the role of the dark-ness of this color pattern in opponent assessment. We conclude that （i） the black stripes on theoperculum of N. pulcherare a reliable signal of aggression and dominance, （ii） these markings playan important role in opponent assessment, and （iii） 2D computer animations are well suited to elicitbiologically meaningful short-term aggressive responses in this widely used model system ofsocial evolution.

In this research work, author focuses on the analysis the impact of international business for intensive and effectiveeconomic growth of China. It must be emphasized that openess to trade is associated with higher incomes andgrowth and there are the need for new approaches to trade cooperation in light of the forces that are currentlyre-shaping international business. The key of trade developments within the broader socio-economic context isespecially the rise of global supply chains, the general shift of trade power away fi＇om the West towards AsiaPacific state. In the new circumstances for the development of the global economy and the international trade,People＇s Republic of China seems to be a production superpower, able to change the world trade. The questionraised is whether the West will see China＇s rise as an opportunity for cooperation and peace or for *** growth is generally more preferable in China to military and extensive expansion. With new investments,a country can transform its position through industrial expansion at home and sustain it through international *** main aim of the paper is the presentation of the impact of international business for intensive and effectiveeconomic growth of China.
