Photocatalytic Cr(Ⅵ)reduction over MIL-88A(Fe)on polyurethane sponge: From batch to continuous-flow operation

MIL-88A(Fe)@sponge(MS) was synthesized by a dip-coating method, which displayed efficient photocatalytic Cr(Ⅵ) reduction efficiency under both low power LED UV light and real solar light irradiation. It was observed that MS(0.2 g/L) could remove 100% Cr(Ⅵ)(10 mg/L) by adding 0.4 mmol/L tartaric acid(TA) without adjusting pH(pH 5.05) within 6.0 min and 3.0 min under UV light and real solar light irradiation, respectively. Besides, the photo-induced e-and radicals(O_(2)^(·-) and CO_(2)^(·-)) were found to play the momentous roles in the MS/TA/UVL/Cr(Ⅵ) system by the scavenger experiments and electron spin resonance(ESR) tests. MS was also filled into a fixed-bed reactor to test the possibility of long-term Cr(Ⅵ)reduction operation in TA/UVL system. As expected, the results revealed that MS could still maintain 100% activity up to 60 h. These results demonstrated that MIL-88A(Fe) might be the potentially efficient catalyst for large-scale wastewater treatment in the near future.

Thermal Behaviour for InGaAsP／InP Multi-Quantum-Well Superluminescent Diodes

Using a two-dimensional thermal flow model, we calculate the thermalresistance and the temperature distribution of InGaAsP/InP multi-quantum-well superluminescentdiodes, The influence of lateral chip size and composition are evaluated. The results reveal thatwhen the injection power reaches I W, temperatures in the active region rises up to almost 50K. Thewidth and length of the chip also have strong influence on the thermal resistance that can reach twoorders of magnitude. The thermal resistance will change from 290K/W to 68K/W when the chip widthincreases from 500 mu m to 2500 mu m, and a similar result exists for the length. There is smalleffect on thermal resistance for active width. In view of the characteristics of output power versusthe input current under pulsed and continues currents, the fitted experimental thermal resistancematches well with the measured results.

Simulation of continuous Esterification Process of Polyester Polyols

Based on the kinetic and thermodynamic equations, a comprehensive mathematical model for the con- tinuous esterification process of polyester polyols was developed, which was carried out in an innovational bub- bling reactive distillation tower （BRDT） at atmospheric pressure. In this new type of reactor, direct esterification between ethylene glycol and adipic acid was accomplished efficiently and rapidly. A bench BRDT with the height of 2 m was applied for the esteriflcation process of l^oly （ethylene adlpate）（P＇EA）. In the continuous operation, Hn- ear oligomers were discharged from the bottom of the column, while water passed a few column trays and a pack- ing section as a condensation byproduct. The influence of major operating conditions on reactor performance was also simulated. Simulation results were in good agreement with experimental data, providing a strategy for devel- oping and optimizing this process.

Treatment of Zn-Containing Acidic Waste Water by Emulsion Liquid Membrane Process

Zn containing waste water from a viscose staple fiber plant has been treated using the emulsion liquid membrane (ELM) process since 1995. The flow sheet and operating parameters of the ELM process are introduced. After adjusting the membrane composition, changing the emulsion phase ratio, and adding a scrubbing step, the ELM process operated normally without trouble for emulsion splitting and mass transport throughput. The splitter voltage was decreased to 3.55 kV. The zinc concentration of treated waste water was lowered to less than 10 mg·L -1 . More than 95% of the zinc was recovered and reused. 
