Effect of arsenic contaminated irrigation water on Lens culinaris *** toxicity assessment using lux marked biosensor

Contamination of irrigation water represents a major constraint to Bangladesh agriculture,resulting in elevated levels in the terrestrial *** bacterial biosensor technology has previously been used to measure the toxicity of metals in various environmental *** arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi have their most significant effect on phosphorus uptake,but showed alleviated metal toxicity to the host *** study examined the effects of arsenic and inoculation with an arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus,Glomus mosseae,on lentil （Lens culinaris ***）.Plants were grown with and without arbuscular mycorrhizal inoculum for 9 weeks in a sand and terra-green mixture （50：50,V/V） and watered with five levels of arsenic （0,1,2,5,10 mg As/L arsenate）.The results showed that arsenic addition above 1 mg/L significantly reduced percentage of mycorrhizal root *** further analysis a close relationship was established with the vegetative and reproductive properties of lentil （***） plants compared to the percentage bioluminescence of the soil ***,arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal inoculation reduced arsenic concentration in roots and *** concentrations of arsenic （5,10 mg As/L arsenate） reduced the mycorrhizal efficiency to increase phosphorus content and nitrogen ***,this study showed that increased concentration of arsenic in irrigation water had direct implications to the lentil （***） plants overall *** the use of bioassay demonstrated that mycorrhiza and clay particle reduced arsenic bioavailability in soil.

Heavy metal contaminated water sources can cause serious health problems for humans,animals,and *** metals can lead to the decrease or loss of liver,kidney,and brain ***:The aim of this research is to examine the effect of charge on adsorbents in the removal of metal *** Design&Methods:Standard solutions of Ca,Cu,Pb,and Zn with concentrations of 1,000 ppm were treated with sodium carbonate and sodium phosphate with various ***,the solutions were placed on a shaker for 24 h,centrifuged,and the supernatant was analyzed using ICP-AES(Inductively Coupled Plasma-Atomic Emission Spectrometry).Results:The order of average metal removal by sodium phosphates is:dibasic(99.3%)>monobasic(96.5%)>tribasic(95.4%).The average metal removal by sodium carbonate and bicarbonate is 98.5% and 96.4% ***:The adsorbent removability depends on the relationship between the charge present on the metal and the charge on the ***,metal cations in this study with a+2 charge had a greater affinity for the adsorbent with-2 charged ligands,dibasic sodium phosphate and sodium carbonate.

Removal of antimonite[Sb(Ⅲ)]from the aquatic environment and reducing its biotoxicity is urgently needed to safeguard environmental and human ***,crawfish shell-derived biochars(CSB),pyrolyzed at 350,500,and 650℃,were used to remediate Sb(Ⅲ)in aqueous *** adsorption data best fitted to the pseudo-second-order kinetic and Langmuir isotherm *** produced at 350℃(CSB350)showed the highest adsorption capacity(27.7 mg g^(−1)),and the maximum 78%oxidative conversion of Sb(Ⅲ)to Sb(V).The adsorption results complemented with infrared(FTIR),X-ray photoelectron(XPS),and near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure(NEXAFS)spectroscopy analyses indicated that the adsorption of Sb(Ⅲ)on CSB involved electrostatic interaction,surface complexation with oxygen-containing functional groups(C=O,O=C-O),π-πcoordination with aromatic C=C and C-H groups,and H-bonding with-OH *** functional theory calculations verified that surface complexation was the most dominant adsorption mechanism,whilstπ-πcoordination and H-bonding played a secondary ***,electron spin resonance(ESR)and mediated electrochemical reduction/oxidation(MER/MEO)analyses confirmed that Sb(Ⅲ)oxidation at the biochar surface was governed by persistent free radicals(PFRs)(•O_(2)^(−)and•OH)and the electron donating/accepting capacity(EDC/EAC)of *** abundance of preferable surface functional groups,high concentration of PFRs,and high EDC conferred CSB350 the property of an optimal adsorbent/oxidant for Sb(Ⅲ)removal from *** encouraging results of this study call for future trials to apply suitable biochar for removing Sb(Ⅲ)from wastewater at pilot scale and optimize the process.

Vibrio vulnificus Disease Prevalence

Vibrio vulnificus is a deadly disease that has been increasing in prevalence. In this study, we review both primary and secondary data to discuss the factors that are contributing to the increase of vibrio disease, causing a 41% increase between 1996 and 2005. It has also been shown that public health campaigns to limit vibrio infections have focused on raw seafood consumption. However, an estimated 42% of infections are now being caused by wound infection, rather than through contaminated seafood. This shows the disparities in addressing vibrio contamination through contaminated seawater and open wounds. This is particularly stressing as global warming is causing an increase in risk of contaminated seawater. Reasons for this increase are discussed, and also possible solutions are presented for public health interventions to help mitigate this rise in vibrio infections.
