The construction of underground power station is normally one of the most complex construction processes in a hydroelectric project. Discrete system simulation is useful tool for resolving this problem. Despite its widespread successful applications, simulation has not yet been used to its maximum potential due to some deficiencies dampen a project.manager's desire to utilize simulation tools. In this paper a Geographic Information System (GIS)-based visual simulation method, in which system simulation techniques are integrated with visualization techniques, is presented to overcome these limitations. The corresponding software, GIS-based Visual Simulation System (GVSS), was developed. GVSS is a powerful planning tool offering visualizing and querying capabilities simultaneously. A real hydraulic and hydroelectric project.in China named Nuozadu is systemically investigated using GVSS. The analytical results have been adopted by the Kunming Hydroelectric Investigation Institute of China.
