In this paper, we consider the adaptive detection problem of range-spread targets embedded in subspace interference plus structured Gaussian clutter. The target signal and interference are assumed to lie in two linearly independent subspaces with unknown coordinates. The clutter component is modeled as a complex Gaussian vector with an unknown persymmetric covariance matrix. We leverage the persymmetric structure to design a two-step detector according to the Rao test criterion. The theoretical results show that the proposed detector possesses the constant false alarm rate property with respect to the clutter covariance matrix. Furthermore, the numerical results show that the proposed detector exhibits better detection performance than the existing unstructured subspace detectors, particularly under a limited training data size. In addition, the proposed detector outperforms the existing persymmetric subspace detectors.

This paper addresses adaptive detection of range-spread target in spherically invariant random vector clutter. Based on the nonadaptive detectors of NSDD-GLRT and SDD-GLRT, two adaptive detectors named ANSDD-GLRT and ASDD-GLRT are devised by replacing the unknown normalized clutter covariance matrix with the sample covariance matrix based on the secondary data. The formulas of detection probability and false alarm probability are deduced. Moreover, the constant false alarm rate properties of both adaptive detectors are assessed and the inffuence of mismatched steering vector on detection probability is analyzed. The experimental results show that the adaptive detectors have an acceptable loss with respect to the nonadaptive counterparts. Furthermore, the ANSDD-GLRT converges much faster than the ASDD-GLRT, however, the latter rejects the misaligned signals more effectively. Both detectors perform well for the uniformly-distributedenergy target, but degenerate for the fluctuating targets. In addition, the correlation between target scatterers results in an additional gain for low signal-to-clutter power ratio.

Multichannel adaptive signal detection uses test and training data jointly to form an adaptive detector to determine whether a target exists. The resulting adaptive detectors typically possess constant false alarm rate(CFAR) properties; thus, no additional CFAR processing is required. In addition, a filtering process is also not required because the filtering function is embedded in the adaptive detector. Adaptive detection typically exhibits better detection performance than the filtering-then-CFAR detection *** has been approximately 35 years since the first multichannel adaptive detector was proposed by Kelly in 1986. However, there are few overview articles on this topic. Thus, in this study, we present a tutorial overview of multichannel adaptive signal detection with an emphasis on the Gaussian background. We discuss the main design criteria for adaptive detectors, investigate the relationship between adaptive detection and filtering-then-CFAR detection techniques, investigate the relationship between adaptive detectors and adaptive filters, summarize typical adaptive detectors, present numerical examples, provide a comprehensive literature review, and discuss potential future research tracks.

Interference is a key factor in radar return *** interference might make it difficult to detect the signal or *** interference occurs in the sidelobes of the antenna pattern,Sidelobe Cancellation(SLC)and Sidelobe Blanking are two unique solutions to solve this problem(SLB).Aside from this approach,the probability of false alert and likelihood of detection are the most essential parameters in *** chance of a false alarm for any radar system should be minimal,and as a result,the probability of detection should be *** are several interference cancellation strategies in the literature that are used to sustain consistent false alarms regardless of the clutter *** the necessity for interference cancellation methods and the constant false alarm rate(CFAR),the Maisel SLC algorithm has been modified to create a new algorithm for recognizing targets in the presence of severe *** received radar returns and interference are simulated as non-stationary in this approach,and side-lobe interference is cancelled using an adaptive *** comparing the performance of adaptive algorithms,simulation results are *** a severe clutter situation,the simulation results demonstrate a considerable increase in target recognition and signal to noise ratio when compared to the previous technique.

CFAR assessment of covariance matrix estimators for non-Gaussian clutter

In the non-Gaussian clutter modeled as independent and identically distributed spherically invariant random vectors, three estimators of sample covariance matrix (SCM), normalized sample covariance matrix (NSCM) and the corresponding recursive estimator (NSCM-RE) are analyzed. Based on the uniform theorem, three corresponding adaptive normalized matched filters (ANMF) are evaluated from the standpoint of constant false alarm rate (CFAR) property. The theoretical results demonstrate that the SCM-ANMF is only CFAR to the normalized clutter covariance matrix (NCCM); the NSCM-ANMF is only CFAR to the clutter power level; and the NSCM-RE-ANMF with finite number of iterations is still not CFAR to the NCCM. To ensure CFAR property of ANMF, an adaptive estimator (AE) is devised. Moreover, with AE as the initialization matrix for the iterations, the AE-RE is proposed. With finite number of iterations, the corresponding AE-REANMF guarantees CFAR property to both of the NCCM and the clutter power level. Finally, the performance assessment conducted by Monte Carlo simulation confirms the effectiveness of the proposed detectors.

The traditional clutter map constant false alarm rate (CM-CFAR) detector is affected by interference and self-masking[1] which will cause the low probability of detection. To solve these problems, a novel algorithm named clutter map CFAR with amplitude limiter (ALCM-CFAR) is proposed, in which the amplitude of the input signal is limited by a filter. The simulation results prove the effectiveness of ALCM-CFAR algorithm.

Optical fiber pre-warning system （OFPS） is widely utilized in pipeline transport fields. The intrusions of OFPS need to be located. In this system, the original signals consist of noises, interferences, and intrusion signals. Here, noises are background and harmless interferences possessing with high power, and the intrusion signals are the main target of detection in this system. Hence, the study stresses on extracting the intrusion signals from the total ones. The proposed method can be divided into two parts, constant false alarm rate （CFAR） and dilation and erosion （DE）. The former is applied to eliminate noises, and the latter is to remove interferences. According to some researches, the feature of noise background accords with the CFAR spatial detection. Furthermore, the detection results after CFAR can be presented as a binary image of time and space. Besides, interferences are relatively disconnected. Consequently, they can be eliminated by DE which is introduced from the image processing. To sum up, this novel method is based on CFAR and DE which can eliminate noises and interferences effectively. Moreover, it performs a brilliant detection performance. A series of tests were developed in Men Tou Gou of Beijing, China, and the reliability of proposed method can be verified by these tests.
