Objective To review the role of epigenetic regulation in neonatal diseases and better understand Barker＇s ＂fetal origins of adult disease hypothesis＂.Data sources The data cited in this review were mainly obtained from the articles published in Medline/PubMed between January 1953 and December *** selection Articles associated with epigenetics and neonatal diseases were *** There is a wealth of epidemiological evidence that lower birth weight is strongly correlated with an increased risk of adult diseases, such as type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease. This phenomenon of fetal origins of adult disease is strongly associated with fetal insults to epigenetic modifications of genes. A potential role of epigenetic modifications in congenital disorders, transient neonatal diabetes mellitus （TNDM）, intrauterine growth retardation （IUGR）, and persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn （PPHN） have been *** Acknowledgment of the role of these epigenetic modifications in neonatal diseases would be conducive to better understanding the pathogenesis of these diseases, and provide new insight for improved treatment and prevention of later adult diseases.

Much has been achieved in child health care over the .past 60 years since the founding of People＇s Republic of China in 1949. In the early years after 1949, a series of new laws provided the basis for the evolution of preventive medicine, vaccination, antibiotic drug treatment and the set-up of maternal and child health care institutions in China. Since the 1980s, programs aiming at controlling child mortality and protecting child health have been put into effect, greatly promoting child health care and primary prevention.

CORRECTIVE SURGERY OF congenital SCOLIOSIS WITH TYPE II SPLIT SPINAL CORD MALFORMATION

Objective To investigate the corrective results of congenital scoliosis with type II split spinal cord *** By reviewing the medical records and roentgenograms of congenital scoliosis patients with type II split spinal cord malformation that underwent corrective surgery, septum location and length, curve type, coronal and sagittal Cobb’s angles, apical vertebral rotation and translation, and trunk shift were measured and *** A total of 23 congenital scoliosis patients with type II split spinal cord malformation were studied, 6 cases were due to failure of segmentation, 8 cases due to failure of formation, and the remaining 9 cases due to mixed *** fibrous septums were located in the thoracic spine in 8 patients, lumbar spine in 4 patients, thoracic and lumbar spine in 10 patients, and from cervical to lumbar spine in 1 *** septum extended an average of 4.9 *** surgeries included anterior correction with instrumentation in 2 patients, posterior correction with instrumentation in 11 patients, anterior release and posterior correction with instrumentation in 6 patients, anterior and posterior resection of the hemivertebra and posterior correction with instrumentation in 4 *** pre- and postoperative coronal Cobb’s angles, apical vertebral translations, apical vertebral rotations, trunk shifts were 61.9° and 32.5°(Pcongenital scoliosis with type II split spinal cord malformation, positive correction results with no neurological complication may be obtained without resection of the fibrous septum.
