Framing Education-Civicness-Social Contract Nexus in Africa? The Case of South Sudan

This article attempts to position education not only in the peacebuilding debate but also in the larger good governance debate about what makes a resilient social contract.We subscribe in this paper to a theoretical perspective that attributes the driver of civil wars to governance deficit that is manifested in absence of resilient social contract in terms of sustained agreement between citizens and state.We then ask the key question of whether and how education is linked to a resilient social contract.We found a wealth of evidence linking education and peacebuilding,and education and civicness,but a gap exists in the literature about the link between education and social contract.On the basis of a thorough review of theory and research on education,civicness,and social contract,we develop a theoretical framework to conceptually frame the nexus between education,civicness,resilient social contract,and sustainable peace.This framework is founded on the theory of state formation.Applying this framework to the case of South Sudan,we found that education through civicness makes students become key political stakeholders and more likely nurture a resilient social contract,which in turn sustains peace.The very low level of educated population in South Sudan might have contributed,among other factors,to limited demand for good governance that contributes to governance deficit,which perpetuates poor state-society relations,ineffective and exclusive institutions,and erosion of social cohesion,and interpersonal trust,factors central to resilient social contract.

Using the conflict principle of the Stroop task, “effect of interference in color naming”, the present study proposes to create a computational version of the emotional Stroop task, called TREFACE, for its acronyms in Portuguese “Teste de Reconhecimento de Expressões Faciais com Conflito Emocional” (Facial Expression Recognition Test with Emotional conflict). In this protocol, four fixed styles of presentation were generated according to the condition: Congruent Word Reading, Incongruent Word Reading, Congruent Recognition of Face Expression and Incongruent Recognition of Face Expression, counterbalanced in terms of each facial expression, word and gender of the photo character. Forty-two healthy volunteers completed the task. Results revealed that a task associated with word reading allows better performance than a task associated with face recognition. It was also identified that in the congruent condition, there is an advantage in terms of the correct responses. Additionally, the data regarding recognition of face expression showed greater difficulty when the image was not congruent with the word. In general, the results suggest that the emotional attribute can compromise the ability to recognize the faces, reaching the functioning of mechanisms such as cognitive control and regulation of emotions. Thus, the TREFACE paradigm can be considered a good assessment tool for monitoring emotional conflict, in addition to presenting itself as a new instrument in Portuguese language for assessing emotional working memory in healthy individuals and, eventually, in different pathologies that affect the functioning of cortical areas related to executive functions.

ABC95 array computer is a multi function network’s computer based on FPGA technology, The multi function network supports processors conflict free access data from memory and supports processors access data from processors based on enhanced MESH network. ABC95 instruction’s system includes control instructions, scalar instructions, vectors instructions. Mostly net work instructions are introduced. A programming environment of ABC95 array computer assemble language is designed. A programming environment of ABC95 array computer for VC++ is advanced. It includes load function of ABC95 array computer program and data, store function, run function and so on. Specially, The data type of ABC95 array computer conflict free access is defined. The results show that these technologies can develop programmer of ABC95 array computer effectively.

In view of the interconflict of multi-objectives in large decision systems, the problem that ranks all the objectives according to several standards is posed. Quantifing the value of decision for objectives according to the traits of researched systems, with the frequency distribution, we construct quantitative indices and then build up the comparative relation of superior and inferior between any two decisions and introduce the relation function which reflects not only the orientation of order but also the extent of superior and inferior for decisions. With calculating the weight coefficient, we put forward several comparative coefficients and finish off the order of superior and inferior of all the decisions for several conflict objectives. By positivist analyses, the solution shows its precise and concise traits dealing with complex decisions. The effect of affiliated analysts on stock recommendations: Evidence from share pledges in China

We use the share pledge context in China to examine how affiliated analysts whose securities companies are pledgees of share pledge firms issue stock recommendations on these listed firms.We find that their recommendations are more optimistic than those of non-affiliated analysts,and they are more likely to issue Buy and Add recommendations,suggesting that they issue optimistic rating reports for share pledge firms due to their conflicts of interest.We also find a dynamic adjustment in the stock recommendation behavior of these analysts,and their probability after issuing optimistic stock recommendations is significantly reduced before and after the years that the affiliation relationship between them and share pledge firms both began and ended.These affiliated analysts continue to issue optimistic stock recommendations after visiting the share pledge firms if they work in the same location as the firms,or if they are star analysts among New Fortune’s‘‘top five analysts,"and when the information transparency of the share pledge firms is higher.In addition,the optimistic stock recommendation behavior of affiliated analysts is more significant in our sample of firms with high share pledge ratios and downward stock price pressure.The earnings forecast quality of affiliated analysts is also found to be lower,and they are less inclined to downgrade stock recommendations for these share pledge firms.Buy recommendations issued by both nonaffiliated and affiliated analysts can bring cumulative excess returns in the short event window,but those issued by affiliated analysts are significantly negative in the long-term event window,and significantly lower than those issued by non-affiliated analysts.Overall,our study shows that affiliated analysts issue optimistic rating reports on share pledge firms due to conflicts of interest,which leads to decision-making bias in investors and thus decreases the stock price crash risk of the firms.Our findings further reveal the economic consequences of share pledging and extend our und

This study situates Sino-Indian economic interaction under the interdependence framework.By mapping conflict behavior in this dyad against the trends in the economic interdependence,we find a discernible shift away from escalation(high-level conflict)towards bargaining(diplomatic contestation).This paper argues that interdependence has only recently emerged in the India-China dyad and that lingering strategic distrust,national security consideration,and protectionist tendency have prevented the deepening of economic interdependence.The findings challenge the direction of interdependence in this dyad normally gleaned from nominal trade data.This paper also highlights key issue-areas that inhibit strategic coupling in the bilateral economic interaction.

＜正＞International Joint Ventures （IJVs） have become an important means of market entry for many firms. As such, it is important to understand what causes some IJVs to fail and others to succeed. One of the key antecedents of IJV performance is conflict between the IJV partners. Other key antecedents of IJV performance include partners’ needs, commitment and control. This study focuses on these key antecedents and examines the impact that partners’ needs, commitment and control have on joint venture conflict. The multiple regression analysis revealed that IJV conflict was significantly influenced by partners’ needs, commitment and control.
