Investigating unsafe behaviours in traffic conflict situations:An observational study in Nigeria

Although road users are aware of the possible risks of engaging in unsafe behaviours while driving,they continue to do so.These behaviours often contribute to traffic incidents and crashes involving them and other road users.This study set out to analyse the effect of road user type,location and time of day on unsafe driving behaviours observed in traffic conflict situations.Data were collected by road side observation at three different locations in the eastern part of Nigeria using the traffic conflict technique(TCT).This approach was adopted to overcome the inherent problems associated with reliable,inadequate and accessible crash data in Nigeria.In total 946 traffic conflicts were observed and statistical testing showed that drivers were involved in one or more unsafe behaviours prior to these conflicts.Of all unsafe behaviours observed,the incorrect use of indicators(13.3%) and tailgating(11.3%) were found to be the most prevalent,while road user type,location and time of day were found to be statistically associated with passenger scouting and other unsafe behaviours.Tricycle drivers were significantly more likely to engage in unsafe behaviours than vehicle drivers.Drivers are also more likely to engage in unsafe behaviours on straight roads.Additionally,a greater number of these unsafe behaviours were observed during the peak periods.It is recommended that better road infrastructure,more effective regulations and enforcement,and proper road safety education could help improve traffic safety in Nigeria.

The need to manage water resource within a holistic approach is crucial in Indonesia. conflict situation which involves a variety of stakeholder needs an appropriate methodology to handle it. The purpose of this paper is to provide an integrated framework of a river basin pollution case in Indonesia. This research try to obtain an understanding of the complexity of inter-relationship between stakeholders of the Citarum River Basin and to give feasible recommendations based on a new developed integrated framework. We first describe the problem in a comprehensive way, then develop a framework to analyze the conflict. Next, we propose a general procedure to apply it, which we call Drama-theoretic Dilemma Analysis （DtDA）. After analyzing the conflicts that arise there between stakeholders using DtDA, we will show how to resolve the dilemmas by using holistic as well as intensive approaches. By applying DtDA in stakeholder analysis and resolving the dilemmas that arise in the interactions between them, we can identify barriers for collaboration.

AIM To quantify the variability of financial disclosures by authors presenting orthopaedic trauma research. METHODS Self-reported authorship disclosure information published for the 2012 American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons(AAOS) and Orthopaedic Trauma Association(OTA) meetings was compiled from meeting programs. Both the AAOS and OTA required global disclosures for participants. Data collected included:(1) total number of presenters;(2) number of presenters with financial disclosures;(3) number of disclosures per author;(4) total number of companies supporting each author; and(5) specific type of disclosure. Disclosures made by authors presenting at more than one meeting were then compared for discrepancies.RESULTS Of the 5002 and 1168 authors presenting at the AAOS and OTA annual meetings, respectively, 1649(33%) and 246(21.9%) reported a financial disclosure(P < 0.0001). At the AAOS conference, the mean number of disclosures among presenters with disclosures was 4.01 with a range from 1 to 44. The majority of authors with disclosures reported three or more disclosures(n = 876, 53.1%). The most common cited disclosurewas as a paid consultant(51.5%) followed by research support(43.0%) and paid speaker(34.8%). Among the 256 physicians with financial disclosures presenting at the OTA conference, the mean number of disclosures was 4.03 with a range from 1 to 22. Similar to the AAOS conference, the majority of authors with any disclosures at the OTA conference reported three or more disclosures(n = 140, 54.7%). Most authors with a disclosure had three or more disclosures and the most common type of disclosure was paid consulting. At the OTA conference, the most commonly cited form of disclosure was paid consultant(54.3%) followed by research support(46.1%) and paid speaker(42.6%). Of the 346 researchers who presented at both meetings, 112(32.4%) authors were found to have at least one disclosure discrepancy. Based on the two-tuple linguistic evaluation method, this paper proposes a consensus model to alleviate conflict problems in distributed Command and Control（C2） decision making. This model mainly involves three phases: computing consensus degrees, controlling the consensus state and feedback mechanism. In this proposed model, consensus degree among deciders is obtained. And the preference distances between deciders’ individual opinions and the aggregated opinion are evaluated respectively. After analyzing the global process, feedback mechanism provides some constructive proposals. Finally, an example shows that this model could relieve such conflict problems caused by different deciders’ cognition effectively.

The accelerated development of information and communication technologies（ICT）has brought new opportunities for corporate organizations to build and manage virtual project teams.Those teams are composed of employees from different genders,experiences,backgrounds and geographic locations.Virtual project teams have become a norm for organizations whose members work across dispersed geographical locations,relying primarily or exclusively,on the use of ICTs to communicate and achieve common tasks.However,the adoption of communication technologies by virtual project teams has created many challenges especially in term of communication,which is a vital element to the success of these teams.Previous research has attempted to explain the direct relationship between the use communication tools and communication effectiveness in virtual team,yet a few of them have investigated the influence of other team dynamics such as trust,team cohesion and conflict on this relationship.This study examined the impact of using different communication tools（lean and rich）on communication effectiveness as well as the simultaneous role of trust and conflict in mediating that impact.An online survey was conducted to collect the primary data,which was used to test and validate the research model by performing a partial least squares-structural equation modelling（PLS-SEM）approach.Findings of the study revealed that the effective use of both lean and rich communication tools have a positive impact on improving the level of trust among team members.The results also showed that trust has a positive impact on communication effectiveness,which confirms the role of trust in mediating the relationship between the use of communication tools and communication effectiveness in virtual project teams.Furthermore,the study confirmed that the effective use of lean communication tools has a positive role in reducing the degree of conflict among team members.In contrast,the findings did not show that conflict has a role in mediating the relationship between

Dempster-Shafer Theory (DST) and the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) are integrated in order to elicit preference information from experts regarding decision makers (DMs) involved in a regulatory conflict. More precisely, DST is used for combining expert knowledge regarding preferences of a specific DM (the regulatory body), and AHP is employed for ranking feasible states in the conflict for this same DM. In order to illustrate how this preference elicitation proposal can be conveniently implemented in practice within the Graph Model for conflict Resolution (GMCR), it is applied to a real construction dispute located in the city of Ipojuca, Brazil. The conflict is modeled with three DMs: support, opposition, and the regulatory body. Results show that the new preference methodology possesses many inherent advantages including high flexibility the ability to capture uncertainty or even ignorance about preferences, the possibility of combining expert knowledge with respect to missing preferences, and a substantial reduction in the number of pairwise comparisons of states required to express preference information.

Chinese American literature is generated by the history of Chinese American immigrants. In Chinese American literature, issues over identity have been repeatedly mentioned as an eternal theme.Amy Tan, as a representative of a dual cultural identity of the Chinese American writers, published her saga novel The Joy Luck Club as a maiden work in 1989. The novel describes the emotional stories between the four Chinese women with different characters and different fates that abandoned the national calamity and family hatred and moved to the United States and their daughters who were born and grew up in the United States.

In order to seek the co-adaptability solution to conflict events in construction engineering projects, a new method referred to as segmented hierarchical algorithm is proposed in this paper by means of comparing co-adaptability evolution process of conflict events to the stackelberg model. By this new algorithm, local solutions to the first-order transformation of co-adaptability for conflict events can be obtained, based upon which, a global solution to the second-order transformation of co-adaptability for conflict events can also be decided by judging satisfaction degree of local solutions. The research results show that this algorithm can be used not only for obtaining co-adaptability solution to conflict events efficiently, but also for other general decision-making problems with multi-layers and multi-subsidi-aries in project management field.
