AIM: To confirm the rarity of this disorder and then to evaluate the effects of antibiotic treatment alone and assess whether this could produce a complete remission of symptoms in children and ***: We made a retrospective review of all cases of condensing osteitis of the clavicle in children and adolescents between January 2007 and January 2016. Outpatient and inpatient medical records, with radiographs, magnetic resonance imaging, triphasic bone scan and computed tomography scans were retrospectively reviewed. All the patients underwent biopsy of the affected clavicle and were treated with intra venous(IV) antibiotics followed by oral ***: Seven cases of condensing osteitis of the clavicle were identified. All the patients presented with swelling of the medial end of the clavicle, and 5 out of 7 reported persisting pain. The patients' mean age at presentation was 11.5 years(range 10.5-13). Biopsy confirmed the diagnosis in all cases. All the patients completed the treatment with IV and oral antibiotics. At last follow-up visit none of the patients complained of residual pain; all had a clinically evident reduction in the swelling of the medial end of the affected clavicle. The mean follow-up was 4 years(range 2-7).CONCLUSION: Our findings show that condensing osteitis of the clavicle is a rare condition. Biopsy is needed to confirm diagnosis. The condition should be managed with IV and oral antibiotics. Aggressive surgery should be avoided.

A pH predictive model based on acid–base equilibria and ion equilibria was proposed to calculate the pH value of the overhead condensing system of crude distillation unit. The pH model could be used to predict the appropriate amounts of neutralizers by measuring the Cl-ion concentration of the overhead knockout drum. The pH values of various neutralized streams were estimated by this model. The results showed that the predicted pH values were in good agreement with the experimental ones. The trend of the corrosion inhibition efficiency decreases in the following order: ethylenediamine > N,Ndimethylethanolamine> triethylamine > 3-methoxypropylamine > morpholine. The difficulty in the accurate control of corrosion was solved, and a good instruction was provided for mitigating corrosion in refinery.

The factors influencing the state and wetting transition of droplets on a rough surface are both complex and obscure. The change in wetting is directly reflected by changes under the contact condition of the droplets with the surface. The recent study about the wettability of the superhydrophobic surface under the condensing condition arouses the new understanding about the apparent state of droplets on a rough surface. In this work, to validate the existence of droplets in an intermediate state, a microscale pillar topological polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) surface was manufactured and its wettability under various conditions was studied. According to the experimental data, it is proposed that the wetting state of a rough surface may be embodied using the contact area ratio of a solid/liquid/gas droplet with the projective plane. A general calculation model for the apparent contact angle of droplets is given and expressed diagrammatically. It is found that the measured apparent contact angles of droplets at dif- ferent states on the surface falls within the range predicted by our proposed equation.

In this paper we prove Leray-Schauder and Furi-Pera types fixed point theorems for a class of multi-valued mappings with weakly sequentially closed graph. Our results improve and extend previous results for weakly sequentially closed maps and are very important in applications, mainly for the investigating of boundary value problems on noncompact intervals.

Objectives: To report an epidemiology study and prognosis for metastatic bone tumor. Methodology: It was a descriptive, transversal study on records of patients hospitalized in Rheumatology and Oncology-Radiotherapy departments of the University Teaching Hospital of Brazzaville, Congo from 1 January 2005 to 31 July 2011 (7 years and 6 months). The diagnosis of bone metastasis was made because of the existence of bone pain, or pathological fracture, or bone swelling and a bone-condensing or mixed or osteolytic radiological image. The anatomo-pathological evidence was made after biopsy of the bone lesion or primary cancer. 3687 patients were hospitalized for active cancer, among them 81 had documented bone metastasis. Results: There were 60 men (74.1%) and 21 women (25.9%) with a sex ratio of 2.85. The average age was 53 years, ranging from 3 to 80 years. 75% of patients were more or equal to 50 years old at the discovery of the bone metastasis. Bone pain was the main mode of discovery (67.9% of cases). However, in 6.2% of cases, it was discovered incidentally. The metastasis was bone condensing in 50.7% of cases, osteolytic in 40.7% and mixed in 8.6%. They were unifocal in 25.9% and multifocal in 74.1% of cases. The Primary cancer most frequently found was that of the prostate in 55.6% of cases, breast in 20.7% and rhabdomyosarcoma in 4.9%. In 6.2% of cases, the primary site of cancer was unknown. The average survival was 25 months. Conclusion: The clinical and radiological presentation remains classic. Cancer of the prostate and breast are the main neoplasia responsible for bone metastasis in our series. The discovery of metastasis remains a major evolutionary step of cancer.
