In this paper, the problem of bending of the uniformly loaded rectangular plates with rest-on edges, i.e. Stoker’s problem, is discussed. The following results are contributed: (ⅰ) A method for analyzing the problem by substituting single-sided line supports with equally spaced single-sided point supports and turning the discussed problem into solving that of convex quadratic programming has been developed. With the help of Fourier series the Stoker’s problem is completely solved. (ⅱ) It is strictly proved that the contact state between the edges of plate and the supports is stable. (ⅲ) The chief numerical results of four examples and several important conclusions are given.

Hsueh and O Brien (1971) proposed a model on coastal upwelling induced by alongshore current. Their model is two - dimensional .steady , f - plane , linear and homogeneous with constant depth , in which wind effect was not considered . In the present paper, we proposed a steady model on upwelling in a strait with alongshore boundary current and wind applied on the surface. The following conclusions have been drawn.1 . Alongshore boundary current contributes more to upwelling than wind near the right coast.2. Alongshore boundary current influence can reach to about 70 km away from the right coast.3. Upwelling in the left half of the strait is mainly produced by wind .4. Under certain conditions, the combined action of wind and alongshore boundary current can produce upwelling in the middle of the strait.

A mathematical model of amplitude-modulated ship radiated broadband noise signal is established making use of the principle of Fourier decomposition,and a mathematical expression for demodulation spectrum of ship radiated noise is derived by the square demodulation *** two following new conclusions from analysis of the demodulation spectrum are obtained by means of theoretical analysis and simulation calculation:(1) the relationship between demodulation performance and demodulation processing bandwidth:when the modulation depths of different frequency bands of ship radiated noise received by the sonar are equal,the demodulation performance is positively proportional to bandwidth of the band-pass filter used for demodulation,and the wider the band-pass filter bandwidth is,the higher the signalto-noise ratio(SNR) of the demodulation spectrum is;(2) the relationship between broadband demodulation spectrum and sub-band demodulation spectrum:the broadband demodulation spectrum of the ship radiated noise can be approximately regarded as a sum of different subband demodulation *** order to verify the two conclusions above,the demodulation spectrum of actual ship radiated noise is processed correspondingly,and the result is consistent with the simulation.
