computer aided design and Performance Analysis of Inverse Fluidized Bed Biofilm Reactors with Special Reference to Bioplastic Synthesis

Poly Laevo Lactic Acid (PLLA), in spite of being an excellent bioplastic, has exorbitantly high market price due to the high cost of raw material (lactose, glucose, sucrose). Hence, its manufacture is being attempted starting from waste effluents such as cheese whey and molasses. Earlier studies on the same in fluidized bed and semifluidized bed biofilm reactors yielded encouraging results. The present study therefore involves design and analysis of inverse fluidized bed biofilm reactors for lactic acid synthesis. The performance features of the bioreactor have been studied both mathematically as well as experimentally. The inverse fluidized bed biofilm reactor has been found to provide more than 75% conversion of sucrose/lactose even at high capacities (high feed flow rates) exceeding 56,000 L/hr, within a reasonably low reactor volume. The fractional substrate conversion increases, though sluggishly, with increase in feed flow rate due to bed expansion and also with increase in cell mass concentration in biofilm due to enhancement in intrinsic rate of bioconversion. The inverse fluidized bed biofilm reactor of proposed design could be safely recommended for the commercial synthesis of polymer grade lactic acid from waste effluents such as cheese whey and molasses. The low operating cost of the bioreactor (due to downflow mode of operation) enhances the economy of the process. This would also help in significantly lowering the market price of the green plastic (PLLA) and shall promote its large scale manufacture and utilisation.

Advanced computer-aided design and Analysis for Synchronous Reluctance-Permanent Magnet Machines

This paper presents an advanced computer aided design (CAD) package for the synthesis, analysis, and optimization of synchronous reluctance combined with permanent magnet (SR PM) machines. The distinguishing features of the CAD package are that it allows a wide range of design options and parameter variations for the new type of machines, calculations of optimization for maximum efficiency and higher power density, and various performance. The package as described in the main text permits the integration of the machine design with an electronic controller, along with the simulation of the whole system. Through the optimal design, characteristic calculations, and system simulations, the CAD package offers a superior design for the SR PM machines, and presents a feasibility frontier outlined by the design. 

Methods for computer aided design and analysis on color-woven fabrics are presented. The relation of color pattern, colored warp, colored weft and the model for regular weave texture are given based on their formative principle. Some efficient algorithms are developed to determine the color order of warp and weft threads which yields a given color pattern and regular weave texture. Finally, the design system structure and data process flowing are introduced.

This paper gives and verifies a mathematical model with only one argument which determines the movement parameters of any point in a plane four-bar linkage on the basis of the analysis of mining machinery linkages. C A A (computer aided analysis) based on the mathemetical model can be used to make not only the quick and accurate analysis and design of mining machinery linkages but also the movement analysis and optimization design of any other plane four-bar linkage.

The research effort outlined the application of a computer aided design(CAD)-centric technique to the design and optimization of solid rocket motor Finocyl(fin in cylinder) grain using simulated *** proper method for constructing the grain configuration model,ballistic performance and optimizer integration for analysis was *** is a complex grain configuration,requiring thirteen variables to define the *** large number of variables not only complicates the geometrical construction but also optimization *** representation encapsulates all of the geometric entities pertinent to the grain design in a parametric way,allowing manipulation of grain entity(web),performing regression and automating geometrical data *** to avoid local minima and efficient capacity to explore design space makes simulated annealing an attractive choice as *** is demonstrated with a constrained optimization of Finocyl grain geometry for homogeneous,isotropic propellant,uniform regression,and a quasi-steady,bulk mode internal ballistics model that maximizes average thrust for required deviations from neutrality.

Structure descriptor for surface passivation in the simulation of atomistic models

Surface passivation is an essential step for atomistic simulations. There can be many possible surface passivation results for a given device model, such as semiconductor devices that consist of Si, Ga As, or other materials because the bonding directions of the surface atoms may not be unique. Based on the structure analysis of the given model, a generation method with structure descriptor(SDG) is proposed for surface *** with other existing solutions, the SDG method not only provides trimmer results, but also reduces the torsion angle energy of the model, which is preferred in the simulation of atomistic models. The efficiency of this method was validated through test results from several applications.

design and Optimization of 3D Radial Slot Grain Configuration

Upper stage solid rocket motors （SRMS） for launch vehicles require a highly efficient propulsion system. Grain design proves to be vital in terms of minimizing inert mass by adopting a high volumetric efficiency with minimum possible sliver. In this arti- cle, a methodology has been presented for designing three-dimensional （3D） grain configuration of radial slot for upper stage solid rocket motors. The design process involves parametric modeling of the geometry in computer aided design （CAD） software through dynamic variables that define the complex configuration. Grain bum back is achieved by making new surfaces at each web increment and calculating geometrical properties at each step. Geometrical calculations are based on volume and change-in-volume calculations. Equilibrium pressure method is used to calculate the internal ballistics. Genetic algorithm （GA） has been used as the optimizer because of its robustness and efficient capacity to explore the design space for global optimum solution and eliminate the requirement of an initial guess. Average thrust maximization under design constraints is the objective function.

Tunable photonic crystals based on ferroelectric and ferromagnetic materials by focused ion beam

By making photonic crystals in ferroelectric and ferromagnetic materials, field-provoked tunability of photonic crystals is broadening the interest in new applications of on-chip photonic devices. We report a nano-precise fabrication of various designs of photonic crystals in these non-conventional materials using the focused ion beam milling technique. Standard methods are developed and parameters for different materials are calibrated. Optical responses such as bandgaps and polarization status changing from planar film waveguide svstem with these patterns have been examined on ferromagnetic materials.
