Rock bursts have become one of the most severe risks in underground coal mining and its early warning is an important component in the safety management. Microseismic(MS) monitoring is considered potentially as a powerful tool for the early warning of rock burst. In this study, an MS multi-parameter index system was established and the critical values of each index were estimated based on the normalized multi-information warning model of coal-rock dynamic failure. This index system includes bursting strain energy(BSE) index, time-space-magnitude independent information(TSMII) indices and timespace-magnitude compound information(TSMCI) indices. On the basis of this multi-parameter index system, a comprehensive analysis was conducted via introducing the R-value scoring method to calculate the weights of each index. To calibrate the multi-parameter index system and the associated comprehensive analysis, the weights of each index were first confirmed using historical MS data occurred in LW402102 of Hujiahe Coal Mine(China) over a period of four months. This calibrated comprehensive analysis of MS multi-parameter index system was then applied to pre-warn the occurrence of a subsequent rock burst incident in LW 402103. The results demonstrate that this multi-parameter index system combined with the comprehensive analysis are capable of quantitatively pre-warning rock burst risk.

The global energy crisis is increasing the demand for innovative materials with high purity and functionality for the development of clean energy production and storage.The development of novel photo-and electrocatalysts significantly depends on synthetic techniques that facilitate the production of tailored advanced nanomaterials.The emerging use of pulsed laser in liquid synthesis has attracted immense interest as an effective synthetic technology with several advantages over conventional chemical and physical synthetic routes,including the fine-tuning of size,composition,surface,and crystalline structures,and defect densities and is associated with the catalytic,electronic,thermal,optical,and mechanical properties of the produced nanomaterials.Herein,we present an overview of the fundamental understanding and importance of the pulsed laser process,namely various roles and mechanisms involved in the production of various types of nanomaterials,such as metal nanoparticles,oxides,non-oxides,and carbon-based materials.We mainly cover the advancement of photo-and electrocatalytic nanomaterials via pulsed laser-assisted technologies with detailed mechanistic insights and structural optimization along with effective catalytic performances in various energy and environmental remediation processes.Finally,the future directions and challenges of pulsed laser techniques are briefly underlined.This review can exert practical guidance for the future design and fabrication of innovative pulsed laser-induced nanomaterials with fascinating properties for advanced catalysis applications.

Two-dimensional(2D)gas chromatography(GC)provides enhanced vapor separation capabilities in contrast to conventional one-dimensional GC and is useful for the analysis of highly complex chemical samples.We developed a microfabricated flow-restricted pneumatic modulator(FRPM)for portable comprehensive 2D micro-GC(μGC),which enables rapid ^(2)D injection and separation without compromising the ^(1)D separation speed and eluent peak profiles.^(2)D injection characteristics such as injection peak width and peak height were fully characterized by using flow-through micro-photoionization detectors(μPIDs)at the FRPM inlet and outlet.A ^(2)D injection peak width of~25 ms could be achieved with a ^(2)D/^(1)D flow rate ratio over 10.The FRPM was further integrated with a 0.5-m long ^(2)D μcolumn on the same chip,and its performance was characterized.Finally,we developed an automated portable comprehensive 2D μGC consisting of a 10m OV-11D μcolumn,an integrated FRPM with a built-in 0.5m polyethylene glycol ^(2)D μcolumn,and two μPIDs.Rapid separation of 40 volatile organic compounds in~5 min was demonstrated.A hybrid 2D contour plot was constructed by using both ^(1)D and ^(2)D chromatograms obtained with the two μPIDs at the end of the ^(1)D and ^(2)D μcolumns,which was enabled by the presence of the flow resistor in the FRPM.

Background:Cholangiocarcinoma(CCA)is a diverse group of malignancies arising from the intra-or extrahepatic biliary epithelium and characterized by its late diagnosis and fatal outcome.Extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma(ECC)accounts for 90%of CCA.However,little is known about the comprehensive genomic alterations of ECC in Chinese population for providing clinical managements especially targeted therapy.Methods:comprehensive genomic profiling(CGP)was performed with next generation sequencing panel on paraffin-embedded tumor from a cohort of 80 Chinese ECC patients.Results:The most frequently altered genes were TP53(68%),KRAS(46%),SMAD4(22%),ARID1A(20%)and CDKN2A(19%).Mutual exclusivity was observed between multiple genes including ARID1A:TP53,KRAS:LRP1B and NF2:TP53.Genetic alterations with potential therapeutic implications were identified in 43%of patients.The top three actionable alterations include CDKN2A(n=11),BRAF(n=5)and ERBB2(n=4).Potentially actionable alterations were mainly enriched in the G1-S transition,homologous recombination repair,MAPK/ERK pathway.Conclusions:This is the largest data set of ECC cases providing a comprehensive view on genetic alterations in Chinese population which differs significantly from a US cohort,and indicates the potential clinical implications for targeted therapies.

Background In a three-month report from the CGA-TAVI registry, we found the Multidimensional Prognostic Index (MPI) and Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB) to be of value for predicting short-term outcomes in elderly patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). In the present analysis, we examined the association of these tools with outcomes up to one year post-TAVI. Methods CGA-TAVI is an international, observational registry of geriatric patients undergoing TAVI. Patients were assessed using the MPI and SPPB. Efficacy of baseline values and any postoperative change for predicting outcome were established using logistic regression. Kaplan- Meier analysis was carried out for each comprehensive geriatric assessment tool, with survival stratified by risk category. Results One year after TAVI, 14.1% of patients deceased, while 17.4% met the combined endpoint of death and/or non-fatal stroke, and 37.7% the combined endpoint of death and/or hospitalisation and/or non-fatal stroke. A high-risk MPI score was associated with an increased risk of all-cause mortality (aOR = 36.13, 95% CI: 2.77–470.78, P = 0.006) and death and/or non-fatal stroke (aOR = 10.10, 95% CI: 1.48–68.75, P = 0.018). No significant associations were found between a high-risk SPPB score and mortality or two main combined endpoints. In contrast to a worsening SPPB, an aggravating MPI score at three months post-TAVI was associated with an increased risk of death and/or non-fatal stoke at one year (aOR = 95.16, 95% CI: 3.41–2657.01). Conclusions The MPI showed value for predicting the likelihood of death and a combination of death and/or non-fatal stroke by one year after TAVI in elderly patients.

Taking the flood resources utilization in Baicheng, Jilin during 2002–2007 as the research background, and based on the entropy weight and multi-level & multi-objective fuzzy optimization theory, this research established a multi-level & semi-constructive index system and dynamic successive evaluation model for comprehensive benefit evaluation of regional flood resources utilization. With the year 2002 as the base year, the analyzing results showed that there existed a close positive correlation between flood utilization volume and its benefits, comprehensive evaluation value and its comparison increment. Within the six successive evaluation years, the comprehensive benefit of 2003 was the best, in which the benefit evaluation increment reached 82.8% whereas the year of 2004 was the worst, in which the increment was only 18.2%. Thus the sustainability and correctness of the evaluation were verified by six years successive evaluation and increment comparison. The analyzing results showed that the economic benefits, ecological benefits and social benefits of flood utilization were remarkable, and that the comprehensive benefit could be improved by increasing flood utilization capacity, which would promote the regional sustainable development as well. The established dynamic successive evaluation provides a stable theoretical basis and technical support for further flood utilization.

Bone is an architecturally complex system that constantly undergoes structural and functional optimisation through renewal and repair.The scanning electron microscope (SEM) is among the most frequently used instruments for examining bone.It offers the key advantage of very high spatial resolution coupled with a large depth of field and wide field of view.Interactions between incident electrons and atoms on the sample surface generate backscattered electrons,secondary electrons,and various other signals including X-rays that relay compositional and topographical information.Through selective removal or preservation of specific tissue components (organic,inorganic,cellular,vascular),their individual contribution(s) to the overall functional competence can be elucidated.With few restrictions on sample geometry and a variety of applicable sample-processing routes,a given sample may be conveniently adapted for multiple analytical methods.While a conventional SEM operates at high vacuum conditions that demand clean,dry,and electrically conductive samples,non-conductive materials (e.g.,bone) can be imaged without significant modification from the natural state using an environmental scanning electron microscope.This review highlights important insights gained into bone microstructure and pathophysiology,bone response to implanted biomaterials,elemental analysis,SEM in paleoarchaeology,3D imaging using focused ion beam techniques,correlative microscopy and in situ experiments.The capacity to image seamlessly across multiple length scales within the meso-micro-nano-continuum,the SEM lends itself to many unique and diverse applications,which attest to the versatility and user-friendly nature of this instrument for studying bone.Significant technological developments are anticipated for analysing bone using the SEM.

Cancer is a major threat to human health.Among various treatment methods,precision therapy has received significant attention since the inception,due to its ability to efficiently inhibit tumor growth,while curtailing common shortcomings from conventional cancer treatment,leading towards enhanced survival rates.Particularly,organelle-targeted strategies enable precise accumulation of therapeutic agents in organelles,locally triggering organelle-mediated cell death signals which can greatly reduce the therapeutic threshold dosage and minimize side-effects.In this review,we comprehensively discuss history and recent advances in targeted therapies on organelles,specifically including nucleus,mitochondria,lysosomes and endoplasmic reticulum,while focusing on organelle structures,organelle-mediated cell death signal pathways,and design guidelines of organelle-targeted nanomedicines based on intervention mechanisms.Furthermore,a perspective on future research and clinical opportunities and potential challenges in precision oncology is presented.Through demonstrating recent developments in organelle-targeted therapies,we believe this article can further stimulate broader interests in multidisciplinary research and technology development for enabling advanced organelle-targeted nanomedicines and their corresponding clinic translations.

Advances in understanding epigenetic regulation of plant trichome development: a comprehensive review

Plant growth and development are controlled by a complex gene regulatory network,which is currently a focal point of research.It has been established that epigenetic factors play a crucial role in plant growth.Trichomes,specialized appendages that arise from epidermal cells,are of great significance in plant growth and development.As a model system for studying plant development,trichomes possess both commercial and research value.Epigenetic regulation has only recently been implicated in the development of trichomes in a limited number of studies,and microRNA-mediated post-transcriptional regulation appears to dominate in this context.In light of this,we have conducted a review that explores the interplay between epigenetic regulations and the formation of plant trichomes,building upon existing knowledge of hormones and transcription factors in trichome development.Through this review,we aim to deepen our understanding of the regulatory mechanisms underlying trichome formation and shed light on future avenues of research in the field of epigenetics as it pertains to epidermal hair growth.
