Converter transformers are the core device in ultrahigh voltage direct current(UHVDC)transmission systems,and the oil-paper insulation at its rectifying valve side deals with the composite AC-DC voltage.A detailed investigation of the partial discharge(PD)mechanism in the oil-paper insulation under the composite AC-DC voltage is,therefore,very *** oilpaper insulated needle plate electrode simulation model for the electric field and charge distribution can be established using hydrodynamic drift-diffusion theory and bipolar charge carrier theory,and the simulation results can reflect the morphological changes of *** development characteristics of PD under composite AC-DC voltage are *** addition,the effects of simulation time,the AC-DC component proportion,and model parameters on PD are also *** indicate that differences in applied voltage,interface charge,and geometry structure can cause changes in the electric field strength,which consequently influences the PD process in the simulation ***-immersed paperboard is a type of liquid-immersed dielectric(LID).When the LID is arranged in perpendicular,only the positive streamers have narrow channels oriented toward the *** the LID is arranged in parallel,the PDs are in the form of creeping discharges and the negative streamers are more *** development characteristics of PD and its influencing factors reported here may provide theoretical and simulation support to explain the physical mechanism of PD at the rectifying valve side of the converter transformer.

Air Breakdown Behavior of Two Series Gaps for composite Switching Impulse/Alternating voltage

More and more high voltage transmission lines make use of rubber housed ZnO arresters in series with another air gap (for example, the insulator gap) as lighting protection elements. Many test results of ZnO arresters protection performance show that this insulation arrangement is suitable for practical lines according to results based on only simple impulse voltage. This paper uses a composite voltage (switching impulse voltage/alternating voltage) to determine the air breakdown behavior of the conductor rod gap in series with the sphere gap. In the test, the switching impulse voltage is applied to the conductor while the alternating voltage is applied to the rod and one sphere and the other sphere is grounded. The results show that in some cases, the value of the U 50% sparkover voltage for the conductor rod gap with the composite voltage is nearly only half of that for just the simple impulse voltage. 

Different types of lightning air terminals have been designed over the *** regarding the effect of different types of air terminals,especially the early streamer emission(ESE)-type,remains *** paper describes the discharge characteristics of different types of air terminals,two of which are quite similar to the ESE-type dynasphere,and concludes that the tested non-standard air terminals have discharge characteristics similar to those of Franklin rods and that their lightning protection performance should be similar.
