Millimeter-wave(mm Wave) communications will be used in fifth-generation(5G) mobile communication systems, but they experience severe path loss and have high sensitivity to physical objects, leading to smaller cell radii and complicated network architectures. A coverage extension scheme using large-scale antenna arrays(LSAAs) has been suggested and theoretically proven to be cost-efficient in combination with ultradense small cell networks. To analyze and optimize the LSAA-based network deployments, a comprehensive survey of recent advances in statistical mmWave channel modeling is first presented in terms of channel parameter estimation, large-scale path loss models, and small-scale cluster models. Next, the measurement and modeling results at two 5G candidate mmWave bands(e.g., 28 GHz and 39 GHz) are reviewed and compared in several outdoor scenarios of interest, where the propagation characteristics make crucial contributions to wireless network designs. Finally, the coverage behaviors of systems employing a large number of antenna arrays are discussed, as well as some implications on future mmWave cellular network designs.

This paper investigates the resource scheduling for heterogeneous vehicular networks, where some moving vehicles are selected and scheduled as helping relays to assist information transmission between the roadside infrastructure and other moving vehicles. For such a system, we propose a mobile-service based max-min fairness resource scheduling scheme, where service amount which is more suitable for high mobility scenarios is adopted to characterize the information transmission capacity of the links and the max-min criteria is adopted to meet the fairness requirement of the moving vehicles. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed scheme. It is shown that our proposed scheme archives higher throughput and better fairness compared with random scheduling scheme and non-relaying scheme.

An 8×2.5Gb/s 100km optical time division multiplexing(OTDM) experiment system is reported, which employs an electrical filter with high Q value for clock extraction, a nonlinear optical loop mirror(NOLM) for demultiplering and chirped fiber grating for dispersion compensation. The error free operation is achieved and the experiment results are given.

The minimum mean square error-successive interference cancellation( MMSE-SIC) multiuser detection algorithm has high complexity and long processing latency. A multiuser detection algorithm is proposed for multi-beam satellite systems in order to decrease the complexity and latency. The spot beams are grouped base on the distance between them in the proposed algorithm. Some groups are detected in parallel after a crucial group-wise interference cancellation. Furthermore, the multi-stage structure is introduced to improve the performance. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can achieve better performance with less complexity compared with the existing group detection algorithm. Moreover,the proposed algorithm using one stage can reduce the complexity over the fast MMSE-SIC and existing group detection algorithm by 9% and20. 9%. The processing latency is reduced significantly compared with the MMSE-SIC.
