Satellite-terrestrial integrated(STI)systems represent the right solution to meet complex requirements of several services and sharing of the limited spectral resources between satellite systems and terrestrial ones must be considered to optimize performance.Network architectures and traffic demand are different for the satellite component and for the terrestrial 5G/6G one,so that the requirements of spectral resources for satellite and terrestrial systems are expected to vary dynamically in a significant range.

With the development of maritime informatization and the increased generation of marine data,the demands of efficient and reliable maritime communication surge.However,harsh and dynamic marine communication environmentcan distort transmission signal,which significantly weaken the communication performance.Therefore,for maritime wireless communication system,the channel estimation is often required to detect the channel suffered from the impacts of changing factors.Since there is no universal maritime communication channel model and channel varies dynamically,channel estimation method needs to make decision dynamically without pre-knowledge of channel distribution.This paper studies the radio channel estimation problem of wireless communications over the sea surface.To improve the estimation accuracy,this paper utilizes multi-armed bandit(MAB)problem to deal with the uncertainty of channel state information(CSI),then proposes a dynamic channel estimation algorithm to explore the global changing channel information,and asymptotically minimize the estimation error.By the aid of MAB,the estimation is not only dynamic according to channel variation,but also does not need to know the channel distribution.Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can achieve higher estimation accuracy compared to matching pursuit(MP)-based and fractional Fourier transform(FrFT)-based methods.

In future communications, cooperative communications with relay networks will be one of the most effective schemes to enlarge the coverage area and to boost the data rate. In the recent research results, the path selection, power allocation, and relay protocols on relay networks are the most important factors to improve the system performance. However, the channel quality of the direct transmission path and the relaying path has an influential effect on the performance of relay networks. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a best relaying path selection(BRPS) scheme to obtain the path diversity to improve the system capacity and data rate for cooperative networks(CNs). Simulation results show that the more the relay nodes are selected, the lower the bit error rate(BER) is. The proposed BRPS scheme obtains a high concession between both BER and system capacity for CNs.

Millimeter wave(mmWave) communications of unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs) have drawn dramatic attentions for its flexibility on a variety of applications.Recently,channel tracking base on the spatial features has been proposed to solve the problem of beam misalignments due to the UAV navigation.However,unstable beam pointing caused by the non-ideal beam tracking environment may impact the performance of mmWave systems significantly.In this paper,an improved beamforming method is presented to overcome this shortcoming.Firstly,the effect of the beam deviation is analyzed through the establishment of the equivalent data rate.Then,combining the quantification of spatial angle and the improved orthogonal matching pursuit(OMP) algorithm,an optimized beam corresponding to the beam deviation is obtained.Simulation results show that the optimized beam of the proposed approach can effectively improve the spectral efficiency without improving the complexity when the beam pointing is unstable.

In this paper, we investigate the energy efficiency and spectrum efficiency, including one-hop device-to-device(D2D) communications mode and two-way amplify-and-forward(AF) relaying D2D communications mode in underlay D2D communications enabled cellular networks. An analysis of average energy efficiency and spectrum efficiency are developed and closed-form expressions are obtained for two types of D2D communications modes under the effect of Rayleigh fading channel, path loss, and co-channel interference. Analytical results are validated through numerical simulations. Based on the simulation, the effects of the interference, the distance between D2D pair and the position of relay node on the energy efficiency and spectrum efficiency of D2D communications are investigated. The optimal D2D transmission powers of these two modes to maximize the energy efficiency are also investigated.

Following the massive commercialization of 5G mobile communication systems,both academia and industry are initiating research activities to shape the next-generation communication systems,namely,6G.Although the detailed killer-applications and key technologies of 6G have not been clearly defined yet,it is commonly expected that 6G will provide hypercoverage and hyper-connectivity.Enabled by these capabilities,the 6G communication systems are especially aiming at improving the user’s experi-ence greatly,or more ambitiously,to change the way of human’s everyday life.So far,many new services with more stringent requirements,such as truly immersive extended reali¬ty(XR),high-fidelity mobile hologram,and digital replica,are expected to be satisfied by the 6G communication systems.

Modern wireless communications gadgets demand multi-standard communications facilities with least overlap between different input radio channels. A sharp digital filter of extremely narrow transition-width with lower stop band ripples offers alias-free switching among the preferred frequency bands. A computationally competent low pass filter (LPF) structure based on the multistage frequency response masking (FRM) approach is proposed for the design of sharp finite impulse response (FIR) filters which are suitable for wireless communications applications. In comparison of basic FRM with other existing multistage FRM structures, the proposed structure has a narrow transition bandwidth and higher stop band attenuation with significant reduction in terms of the number of computational steps. A design example is incorporated to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed approach. Simulation results establish the improvement of the proposed scheme over other recently published design strategies.

Network-Connected UAV communications: Potentials and Challenges

This article explores the use of network-connected unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV) communications as a compelling solution to achieve high-rate information transmission and support ultra-reliable UAV remote command and control. We first discuss the use cases of UAVs and the resulting communication requirements, accompanied with a flexible architecture for network-connected UAV communications. Then, the signal transmission and interference characteristics are theoretically analyzed, and subsequently we highlight the design and optimization considerations, including antenna design, nonorthogonal multiple access communications, as well as network selection and association optimization. Finally, case studies are provided to show the feasibility of network-connected UAV communications.
