A 53.667 MHz CW(continuous-wave) heavy ion IH-DTL has been designed for the SSC-LINAC injector of HIRFL-CSR(Heavy Ions Research Facility at Lanzhou-Cooling Storage Ring). It accelerates ions with maximum mass-to-charge ratio of 7.0 from 143 to 295 ke V/u. Low-power RF measurement of the IH-DTL1 has been taken to investigate the RF performance and the quality of the electric field distribution on the beam axis.The measured Q_0 value and the shunt impedance are 10,400 and 198 MX/m, respectively. The electric field distributions on and around the beam axis were evaluated and compared with the design value. By a new approach,the dipole field component is also estimated. The beam dynamics simulation using measured field distribution was presented in this paper. Based on the dynamics analysis in both transverse and longitudinal phase space, the field distribution can meet the design requirement. Finally, the RF conditioning and very first beam commissioning on the IH-DTL1 were finished. The beam test results agree well with the simulation results; what's more, the property of the variable output beam energy about the separated functions DTL was verified.

A 325-MHz continuous-wave(CW) four-vane radiofrequency quadrupole(RFQ) is employed in Injector-I of the China Accelerator-Driven Subcritical System. The radiofrequency tuning and beam commissioning were performed from January 2014 to January 2017. In a cold test, a stability study showed that the design of the segmented resonantly coupling and dipole stabilizer rods can shift the harmful quadrupole and dipole mode from the fundamental mode to above 2.6 MHz. We also found a simplified tuning method for the field unflatness, involving changing the inserted length of a few plug tuners. For achieving CW-beam commissioning, two full-size RFQs were constructed successively. The commissioning results indicate that the beam transmission rate decreased by approximately 3% as the normalized field unflatness decreased by 1%. A 10-MeV CW proton beam with an average beam current of 2.1 m A was achieved at the target of Injector-I, and the output beam energy of the RFQ was3.18 MeV.

During the 1st and 2nd stages of the commissioning of the upgrade project of the Beijing Electron Positron Collider (BEPCⅡ), which started on Nov. 12, 2006 and Oct. 24, 2007, respectively, we got the luminosity one tenth of its design value, provided beams to synchrotron radiation users for about 4 months, and studied beam dynamics as well. In this paper, some beam dynamics studies on the storage rings and their preliminary results are given.

HIRFL-CSR, a new heavy ion cooler-storage-ring system at IMP, had been in commissioning since the beginning of 2006. In the two years of 2006 and 2007 the CSR commissioning was finished, including the stripping injection (STI), electron-cooling with hollow electron beam, C-beam stacking with the combination of STI and e-cooling, the wide energy-range synchrotron ramping from 7 MeV/u to 1000 MeV/u by changing the RF harmonic-number at mid-energy, the multiple multi-turn injection (MMI), the beam accumulation with MMI and e-cooling for heavy-ion beams of Ar, Kr and Xe, the fast extraction from CSRm and single-turn injection to CSRe, beam stacking in CSRe and the RIBs mass-spectrometer test with the isochronous mode in CSRe by using the time-of-flight method.

Separated Function RFQ (SFRFQ) was proposed as a post accelerator of RFQ to accelerate heavy ions at low frequency. It introduces gap accelerating in the quadrupole electrodes, and therefore it has higher accelerating efficiency than the conventional RFQ accelerator. The first SFRFQ prototype cavity has been specially designed and constructed as a post accelerator to accelerate O+ beam from 1.03 MeV to 1.64 MeV. Based on accomplishment of low power measurement and high power test, the beam commissioning was carried out to verify its feasibility. The measured energy gain per cell of SFRFQ is 45 keV, which is about 60% higher than that of Peking University Integral Split Ring (ISR) RFQ.

This is a status report of the project on befalf of the BEPCⅡ team. BEPCⅡ is a major upgrade of the BEPC (Beijing Electron-Positron Collider). It is a double-ring e+-e- collider as well as a synchrotron radiation (SR) source with its outer ring, or SR ring. As a collider, BEPCⅡ operates in the beam energy region of 1—2.3 GeV with design luminosity of 1×1033 cm-2s-1 at 1.89 GeV. As a light source, the SR ring operates at 2.5 GeV and 250 mA. Construction of the project started in the beginning of 2004. Installation of the storage ring components was completed in October 2007. commissioning is in progress. There are still many issues for further studies before reach to 3×1032 cm-2s-1.

A new mode is designed with an emittance of 2.47 nm-rad at 3.0 GeV beam energy, lower than the nominal mode of the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility （SSRF） storage ring. Details of the linear optics design and the nonlinear optimization are presented in this paper. During Phase I commissioning of the storage ring we tested the new optics mode and some expected results were obtained. After restoring the linear optics by means of the linear optics with closed orbit technique, the main parameters of the real machine agree well with the designed values and the injection efficiency and beam lifetime are acceptable.

Background In the field of particle therapy,the method of pencil beam scanning is of great potential for clinical application,now and in the future.Purpose The authors made strong effort to develop a spot scanning system for Shanghai Proton Therapy Facility.Design parameters and basic layout of the system are introduced.Methods Functionalities and specifications of crucial devices are described in detail.Most of the devices in the system were designed in house by the authors themselves,including scanning nozzle,scanning magnets and their power supplies,beam monitors,irradiation control modules and safety interlock modules.During the technical commissioning stage in the fix beam room,the spot scanning system was tested and verified.Results Under conditions of the maximum dose rate and minimum dose rate,a)repeatability of the single spot dose is less than±0.1%;b)nonlinearity of the single spot dose is less than±0.1%;c)FWHM for spot size in air at isocenter varies from 8mm to 12mm for full energy,consistent with the design values;d)lateral dose distribution achieves a flatness of less than 2%for multiple proton energies.Conclusion According to the results of technical commissioning,the spot scanning system is capable of producing a pre-scribed 3D dose distribution for target tumor successfully.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to provide technical information on commissioning the TrueBeam STx 6 MV flattening-filter free (FFF) beam in the RayStation treatment planning system (TPS) for stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) and stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) treatments. Methods: For beam modeling, percent depth dose curves, profiles and output factors for jaw-collimated fields and stereotactic cones as well as X-jaws transmission were measured. For multi-leaf collimator (MLC) modeling, MLC model parameters such as offset, gain, curvature, leaf tip width, tongue and groove and transmission were determined and output factors for MLC-collimated fields were measured. Absolute dose calibration was also performed. For beam model and MLC model validation, the American Association of Physicists in Medicine Task Group-119 plans, clinical SRS and SBRT plans and end-to-end testing were performed. Results: Beam characteristics of the 6 MV FFF beam agreed well with those in the literature. Validation results showed that our beam model and MLC model were acceptable for SRS and SBRT treatments. Conclusions: The technical information and dosimetric data provided in this study will be a useful reference for other clinics/institutions which will commission the same machine energy in the RayStation TPS.
