Based on data gathered through a questionnaire survey with 3,544 respondents in six largest cities in China, the clothing expenditures of Chinese consumers and influential factors are investigated in this paper. It was found that regional differences exist sig nificantly among the cities, possibly due to differences in economy,customs, culture and other factors It was also found that the demographic and soionomic factors including age, gender, marital staus , education level,occupation, and household income have a significant influence on clothing expenditures. Further, the interactive influences of geographic variable with demographic and socioeconomic variables on the clothing expenditures were ex amined. The findings should have useful implications for segmenting Chinese consumers and developing marketing strategies in China.

In the context of visual cultural dissemination,clothing art and design are becoming increasingly close to people’s lives,and the interaction between images and clothing will be increasing.On the basis of integrating tradition,clothing art incorporates visual expression language,changes the attributes of clothing display and dissemination,and reconstructs the creative approach of clothing art design,thus constructing new artistic language and expression methods.By analyzing typical design cases and utilizing the characteristics of image and fashion art,as well as the techniques of image implantation,the inherent relationship between fashion art and image is elucidated.

This paper deals with the types and specifications of combing roller covering for spinning pureramie noil rotor-spun yarns.A handling mode combining Fuzzy Decision-making and FuzzyCluster Analysis has been used for analyzing the experimental results.It is shown that,with regard to the specifications of the sawtooth clothing of the combing rol-ler,large working angle,large tooth pitch,fine tooth shape,short tooth height,smooth finish andgood wearability are of benefit to improving the spinning stability and the spun yarn properties.The pinned combing roller,however,regardless of its complicated process of production,is sug-gested to be preferred for spinning the pure ramie noil rotor-spun yarns.The handling mode used in this work is efficient in improving the reliability and objectivity ofthe conclusions and can be used for solving the similar problems.

Experience of industrialized countries revealed that there exists a generalized pattern in the development of textile complex in the world. A model proposed by Toyne et al. was found to be generally acceptable. However, the development of this model was primarily based on observation rather than supported by empirical evidence. It is the aim of this research, by using the generalized model, to determine the development pattern of the Hong Kong textile complex. It was revealed that the local development process had both conformance and inconsistencies when compared with the model. The inconsistencies, in particular, provide implications to the application of the model in describing the global situation.

The goal of this research is to describe and analyse Shanghai’s fashion in Late Qing Dynasty (the 1840’s-1911), with an emphasis on the fashionable clothing worn by adult. Three aspects is discussed: the development of as a fashion center, the men’s fashion in Shanghai and the women’s fashion in Shanghai. In these parts, the style, textiles, colour, decoration and combination of clothing are described. Many costumes from museums and private collections as well as some historical writings, paintings and photographs are elucidated to give a description about Shanghai’s fashion looks during that period.Here are some tentative conclusions. Firstly, Shanghai has always been a fashion center in China since 1860’s. Shimao was the most important characteristic of clothing. Secondly, fashion of traditional clothing was described as highly stylized, gorgeous, exquisite, miscellaneous, detailed and multicolored. Thirdly, the influence of Western clothing was upwards. Dimensions of Sensory Perceptions on Next-to-Skin Wear in a Cold Environment

The underlying patterns of sensory perceptions towards ciothing comfort performance were investigated by ex. posing thirty - eight healthy human subjects to exercise in a cold environmental condition: 14℃ and 32％ RH. The air velocity was 0.25 m/s. Each trial lasted 80 minutes, during which two T - shirts were worn successlvely by a subject. The preferences over the T - shirts by handling were determined before the test, and ratings of sensory perception during wear were recorded every ten minutes by means of questionnaires. Nineteen sensory descrlpters were selected on the basis of previous consumer survey study. By factor analysis and variable clus. tering analysis, it was found that the 19 sensory descriptors could be grouped into three factors: Factor 1 - thermal and moisture sensations: sultry, damp, clammy, clingy, hot, cold and nonabsorbent; Factor 2 - tactile sensations: prickly, scratchy, rough, itchy and statieky; Factor 3 - pressure sensations: snug, loose, heavy, lightweight, soft and

In order to determine the control dimensions of human body in pattern construction and provide the basis for size specification in clothing industry, a gray model is described and established in the application of predicting size specification. By comparing the features of gray model and regression model, it is proved that the former has many advantages over the latter, i.e. more practical and more effective in this application. So it is strongly suggested to apply the innovative gray model instead of the traditional regression model to facilitate the calculation procedure in pattern construction.

The purpose of the study was to examine the "push" factors, which are the factors explaining the phenomena of the moving out of the textile and clothing industry in Hong Kong. The focus was put on its relationship to the time and the decision preference level. Data were collected by a questionnaire survey with 85 successful replies. A three dimensional contingency table was formulated to analyse the situation.

Hong Kong and the Interior of China are leading clothing exporters in the world. Together they accounted for nearly 29 percent of the global clothing exports in 1999.The paper is basically divided into two parts. Firstly, it discusses that high world market share is an indicator of competitiveness for the product. From United Nations statistics, it was identified that Hong Kong and the Interior of China were competitive in certain discrete clothing items and a trend was apparent in the production shift of labour intensive clothing items from Hong Kong to the Mainland as witnessed from 1987-1993. With the revised statistical classification system in clothing items released by United Nations, second part of the paper further investigates the broad clothing categories of knitted and woven garments from 1987-1998. It was discovered that Hong Kong was traditionally more competitive in knitted garments while the Interior of China possessed advantages in the manufacture of woven items. Taking the labour cost advantage of the Interior of China and the marketing strengths of Hong Kong, their co-operation for clothing production is considered complementary to each other and able to foster synergistic effects.
