Objective: To determine if a subcutaneous closed suction drain decreases the incidence of wound complications in patients undergoing emergency surgery for colorectal perforation. Materials and Methods: Data on 47 patients who underwent emergency operations for colorectal perforation were examined retrospectively. The clinical features of these cases with or without the use of the J-VACTM Drainage System were examined, and statistical analysis was performed. Results: In these high-risk cases, the overall incidence of incisional surgical site infection (SSI) was 36.2%. The incidence of incisional SSI in these cases with and without the J-VACTM Drainage System was 16.7% and 56.5%, respectively. Conclusion: Our results suggest that a subcutaneous closed suction drain is effective for preventing incisional SSI in patients who have undergone emergency operations for colorectal perforation.

Background: The femur is the longest and strongest tubular bone in the human body. The femoral shaft is the portion of the bone between 5 cm distal to the lesser trochanter and 6 cm proximal to the most distal point of the medial femoral condyle. Femoral shaft fractures often result from high energy forces. These fractures occur mostly among young adults. Objective: This was to determine the epidemiological pattern of closed femoral shaft fractures in a regional tertiary hospital in Enugu, Nigeria. Method: The study was a prospective study over a 12 month period (June 2015-May 2016) at National Orthopaedic Hospital, Enugu. Following ethical approval and written informed consent, patients were consecutively recruited. The patients were clinically and radiographically evaluated at presentation. The diagnosis of closed femoral shaft fractures were made from the physical examination finding of absent open wound communicating with the fracture hematoma in the thigh and anteroposterior (AP) and lateral x-rays of the affected thigh confirming the fracture pattern. The data collected included patients’ demographics, the cause of injury, the side of injury and anatomic site of the injury among other parameters. The data were collected using well designed and structured proforma. Results: A total of 52 femoral shaft fractures in 50 patients were included and analyzed using SPSS version 20.0. The age range of the patients is 18 - 85 years with a median age of 39.1 ± 14.9 years. The most commonly affected age group is 21 - 30 years. There was male preponderance with a male to female ratio of 2.3:1. Majority of the fractures (76.9%) resulted from road traffic crashes most commonly following motor vehicular accident (36.5%). Majority of the fractures (92.3%) are unilateral with right side to left side ratio of 1.2:1. Majority of the patients (51.9%) had Winquist Hansen grade III type of fracture. The dispersion characteristics of a class of closed dielectric waveguides are investigated by themethod which combines the building-block approach of multimode network theory with the rigorous modematching procedure.Several numerical examples for difrerent guiding structures have been given by the ap-proach.The same structures are also analyzed with the finite element method and the EDC method forcomparison.The calculations show that the present approach yields as highly accurate results as the finite ele-ment method while almost retaining the simplicity of the EDC method,and justify the utility of the presentmethod.

Treatment of Displaced Mid-Clavicle Fractures by closed Titanium Elastic Nail

Introduction: Recently, intramedullary nailing for displaced middle third fractures of clavicle has received wide attention. Though open nailing has been widely described, closed nailing finds less mention. This paper therefore aims to study the outcome of closed titanium elastic nailing for displaced mid-clavicular fractures. Material and Methods: This was a prospective study of 34 patients with displaced middle third clavicle fracture who underwent closed intramedullary nailing with titanium elastic nail at a tertiary care centre. The operative time, length of incision, time for radiological union, pain and functional outcome after union were noted. Results: The mean operative time was 34.33 mins. The mean time of discharge was 2.25 days. The average time of radiological union was 10.23 weeks. All the patients achieved full, painless range of motion of the ipsilateral shoulder. The average Constant-Murley score at 12 months was 94.28 indicating excellent result. Conclusion: closed titanium elastic nailing offers a safe and minimally invasive method of fixation for fractures of middle-third clavicle with excellent functional outcome.

It has been shown by Sierpinski that a compact, Hausdorff, connected topological space (otherwise known as a continuum) cannot be decomposed into either a finite number of two or more disjoint, nonempty, closed sets or a countably infinite family of such sets. In particular, for a closed interval of the real line endowed with the usual topology, we see that we cannot partition it into a countably infinite number of disjoint, nonempty closed sets. On the positive side, however, one can certainly express such an interval as a union of c disjoint closed sets, where c is the cardinality of the real line. For example, a closed interval is surely the union of its points, each set consisting of a single point being closed. Surprisingly enough, except for a set of Lebesgue measure 0, these closed sets can be chosen to be perfect sets, i.e., closed sets every point of which is an accumulation point. They even turn out to be nowhere dense (containing no intervals). Such nowhere dense, perfect sets are sometimes called Cantor sets.

The results of treating the closed injury of brain with two methods are reported, one is Western medicine treatment (control group), and the other is acupuncture combined with Western medicine treatment (acupuncture group). The total curative rate of the latter is 86 %, and that of the former is 56 %. The therapeutic effect of acupuncture group is better than that of control group. Coordinating acupuncture therapy in early stage is thus certainly necessary. At the same time, pathogenesis of the disease and the mechanism of acupuncture treatment are also discussed.

Arynylmagnesium bromides cleave the S-S bond of μ-S2Fe2（CO）6 to give equilibrium mixtures of 'open' intermediates （μ-ArCS）（μ-BrMgS）Fe2（CO）6 and 'closed' intermediates μ-[S（Ar）C=C（MgBr）S]Fe2（CO）6. The mixtures were treated with CpFe（CO）2I or some of organic halides to yield corresponding 'open' Fe-S complexes, whereas with CF3CO2H, gaseous HBr or CH3HgCl to afford the 'closed' ones. The 'closed' products were also observed with those alkyl halides which eliminate HX easily. So, this kind of alkyl halides possibly functions as substrates through elimination of HX in reaction courses.

The injecting section and the cooler section are apart from each other at CSRm, while the electron cooler systemis installed at the injecting section of CSRe[1]. So for the CSRe we not only need to satisfy the beam injectingcondition but also need to satisfy the beam cooling condition. At present, we use the ramping bump and the kickerto inject beam, and after injection the bump disappear quickly and the beam goes to the cooling orbit and begincooling. This method has a disadvantage that the beam cooling condition cannot be satised until the bump isdown. In the past year, we try to nd a new method to correct the orbit of cooler section. Instead of using rampingbump we use the xed bump to satisfy the injecting and the cooling condition at the same time.
