Effect of BATHE interview technique on patient satisfaction in an ambulatory family medicine centre in South India

Objective The objective of the study is to determine the effect of background,affect,trouble,handling and empathy(BATHE)versus usual interview technique on patient satisfaction during regular consultation with family physicians in ambulatory *** The research design was a prospective,randomised control *** The trial took place in a family practice unit in South India,which was one of the clinical service units of the academic Department of Family Medicine of a tertiary *** The eligible participants were adults above the age of 18 years,who did not have any acute presenting *** participants should have given consent and also not have any cognitive disability.A total of 138 participants took part in the trial,70 in BATHE group and 68 in the non-BATHE *** participants entering the trial completed the *** The BATHE group had a significantly higher mean score for questions grouped under professional *** included questions on whether the patient felt that the physician treated them as a person and also whether they felt the appropriate clinical examination was communicated to *** questionnaire used for scoring satisfaction had 18 questions with a maximum possible score of *** taking a cut-off of 75%(68)from the total possible score of 90,72.9%(51)of the participants for whom the BATHE consultation technique was used were satisfied as compared with only 55.9%(30)for whom the routine consultation was carried *** was statistically significant(χ2=11.15,p value=0.0006)Conclusion The study suggests that using BATHE in this family practice centre is beneficial in improving the perception of person centeredness in the ***,further studies ruling out all possible bias are needed in our setting before the range of probable benefits of the BATHE technique can be fully gauged.

Dear editor,“Ureteric stump syndrome(USS)”is a rare entity(incidence 0.8%–1.0%)with left-over in situ distal-ureter being the culprit[[1],[2],[3]].The presentation may be recurrent urinary tract infection(UTI),flank/abdominal pain,or hematuria[1,4].Although only few of the patients require intervention(approximately 1.1%–10%)[[1],[2],[3]],either with open excision of the stump[[1],[2],[3]]or via minimally invasive endoscopic approach[5,6],prompt diagnosis is often *** simple nephrectomy,dilemma exists whether to consider concomitant total ureterectomy to eliminate the future risk of USS[4],or to consider subtotal-ureterectomy along with nephrectomy[[1],[2],[3]].In this letter,we present a retrospective analysis of clinical presentation,diagnostic approach,and management of three patients of USS(Table 1)treated at our centre and try to solve all these dilemmas.

Performance Improvement of the LM Device and Its Application to Precise Measurement of Motion Trajectories within a Small Range with a Machining centre

In order to apply the LM device previously developed to precisely measuring small motion trajectories located on the different motion planes, three major improvements are successfully performed under the condition of completely maintaining the advantages of the device. These improvements include 1) development of a novel connection mechanism to smoothly attach the device to the spindle of a machining centre;2) employment of a new data sampling method to achieve a high sampling frequency independent of the operating system of the control computer;and 3) proposal of a set-up method to conveniently install the device on the test machining centre with respect to different motion planes. Practical measurement experiment results with the improved device on a machining centre sufficiently demonstrate the effectiveness of the improvements and confirm several features including a very good response to small displacement close to the resolution of the device, high precision, repeatability and reliance. Moreover, based on the measurement results for a number of trajectories for a wide range of motion conditions, the error characteristics of small size motions are systematically discussed and the effect of the movement size and feed rate on the motion accuracy is verified for the machining centre tested.

HOW THE NATIONAL FORECASTING centre IN OMAN DEALT WITH TROPICAL CYCLONE GONU

Tropical Cyclone Gonu affected the coastal areas of Oman during the period 5th–7th of June *** low pressure system which first developed on the 1st of June 2007 southwest of India intensified slowly as it moved west north-westwards towards the coastal areas of Oman reaching a super cyclonic storm(according to IMD classifications)on the 4th of *** storm then lost its strength well before reaching the coastal areas of *** cyclones very rarely reach that intensity in the Arabian Sea and seldom enter the Gulf of Oman(at least from the start of records in 1945).However,according to unpublished notes by Oman Forecasting centre(see also Membery 2001,2002),on 4th June 1890,a tropical cyclone brought 24 hours of torrential rain to Batinah and Muscat regions,with severe flooding and widespread damage to *** evidence,which is not known to many,clearly shows that although cyclone Gonu might have been the most destructive cyclone to ever have affected Oman,it is not the only *** paper highlights the history of tropical cyclones that affected Oman and give details on how the Oman Forecasting centre managed and dealt with cyclone Gonu.A situation of this type was anticipated,but encountered for the first time by both forecasters and decision makers at the Directorate General of Meteorology and Air Navigation(DGMAN).Lessons learned and measures for future decisions on how to deal with severe weather events are discussed.

The descending pathways of the bulbar vasoconstrictor centre have been repeatedly described in the literature. Lim et al. demonstrated that the excitatory fibres from the bulbar pressor area descended in the ipsilateral ventrolateral column of the spinal cord without decussation and the inhibitory fibres from the depressor area partially decussated in the bulb. Family Care centre Model Could Decrease Anxiety Level among Family Members of Patients Who Have Been Undergoing in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

Critical illness/critical condition from any diseases and life-threatening event are the trigger factors of anxiety among family members of patients who are being cared in the intensive care unit. The anxiety is felt by patient’s family members who undergoes in ICU. It is generally triggered by uncertain patient’s conditions, room conditions, strict visiting time and cost factors. Unfortunately some nurses often fail to give attention to the family in such phenomenon and more focus to the physical patient condition. In that regard, giving attention to the family members of patients who are undergoing hospitalization in the ICU is very important and should be done by nurses by applying the Family Care Center (FCC) model. This study aims to determine the effect of the application of the model of family care center to decrease the anxiety level of family members. The results will be very useful to improve the quality of nursing care, especially in applying the model of the FCC as efforts to redeem any anxiety issues among family members. The method was used to quasi-experimental design with pre and post-test by using the control group. The total of 48 family members of patients who are undergoing hospitalization in the intensive care unit in Dr. Hasan Sadikin Hospital is willing to be used as samples in this study. It was obtained by purposive sampling technique. Data were collected by the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS) and analyzed by univariate analysis using mean and standard deviation, then in the bivariate analysis using paired t-test test and Independent t-test. The results showed that there was significant application of the FCC to decrease family member’s anxiety level in ICU. The conlusion of this study is: FCC can be implemented to reduce anxiety level of family members of patients who are undergoing in the intensive care unit.
