Croton steenkampianus Gerstner（Euphorbiaceae）,commonly known as "Marsh Fever-berry" and "Tonga Croton",is a shrub or tree endemic to restricted areas of central Africa and eastern parts of southern *** medicinal uses of the genus Croton are reported in countries all over the world,and many species are used to treat bleeding,bleeding gums,chest complaints,coughs,fever,indigestion,malaria,and *** 2008,Hussein and co-workers isolated two novel natural diterpenoids from the ethanol extract of leaves of ***,which they subsequently named steenkrotins A and B（Figure 1）.Structurally,（+）-steenkrotin A（1） possesses an intricate [3,5,5,6,7] pentacyclic carbon framework containing a sterically congested hydroxytetrahydrofuran subunit,while steenkrotinB（2） features an unusual [5,6,6,7] tetracyclic skeleton embedded with an endoperoxide *** of these molecules contain eight stereogenic centers,of which six are contiguous,including one all-carbon quaternary *** intriguing structures as well as the potentially important biological activities rendered 1 and 2 attractive targets for synthetic *** this presentation,we will report our recent progress towards the total synthesis of these molecules.
