Metabolic characteristics and nutrient utilization in high-feedefficiency pigs selected using different feed conversion ratio models

An understanding of the nutrient utilization characteristics of pigs with different feed efficiencies(FEs) will help us to develop new strategies to reduce the costs of pig *** this study,we selected pigs with a range of FEs according to two feed conversion ratio models: the feed intake(FI) model,where pigs had the same average daily gains(ADGs) but different FIs,and the ADG model,where pigs had the same FIs but different ***-FE pigs had a higher abundance of short chain fatty acid(SCFA)-producing bacteria(Lachnospiraceae,Clostridiaceae1,and Coriobacteriaceae) in their caecum in the FI model,and low-FE pigs had a higher abundance of two families(BacteroidalesS247group and Peptococcaceae) and two genera(Anaerotruncus and CandidatusSoleaferrea) in both *** contrast,high-FE pigs had more goblet cells and higher m RNA expression of insulin-like growth factor 1(IGF-1) in the FI model,and higher mRNA expression of occludin but lower expressions of adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase(AMPK)-α2 and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma coactivator 1 alpha(PGC1α) in the ADG *** findings suggest that the presence of SCFA-producing bacteria in the caecum and increased muscular growth may contribute to the high FE of low-FI pigs,while improved intestinal functions and decreased mitochondrial activity in the skeletal muscle are related to the high FE of high-ADG pigs.

Colorectal cancer is a major cause of death in the western world and is currently the second commonest cause of death from malignant disease in the *** a "driving test" for colonoscopists wishing to take part in the National Health Service Bowel Cancer Screening Program has been introduced,with the aim of improving quality in *** describe the accreditation process and have reviewed the published evidence for its *** compared this method of assessment to what occurs in other developed *** the authors' knowledge no other countries have similar methods of assessment of practicing colonoscopists,and instead use critical evaluation of key quality *** UK appears to have one of the most rigorous accreditation processes,although this still has *** published evidence suggests that the written part of the accreditation is not a good discriminating test and it needs to be improved or *** work is needed on the best methods of assessing polypectomy *** systems need to be in place for the colonoscopist who fails the assessment.

Congenital uro or genito-digestive fistulas are frequently found in the context of caudal pole malformations. Isolated congenital forms without associated anorectal malformation have not been reported until now. We report the first case we know a 9 year old female child received in a pediatric surgery consultation for fecaluria evolving since birth with a permeable anus. She presented a good general condition, a good staturo-ponderal and psychomotor development, a vulva soiled by stool and a permeable anus with a tonic sphincter. A retrograde urethrocystography revealed a caeco-vesical fistula. Surgery consisted of ligation-section of the caeco-vesical septum. A follow-up urethrocystography at three months post-surgery no longer visualized the fistula. Our post-operative follow-up is 4 years. Isolated congenital caeco-vesical fistula is an unknown pathology whose late diagnosis can have serious repercussions.
