Redundant Transmission Control Algorithm for Information-Centric Vehicular IoT Networks

Vehicular Adhoc Networks(VANETs)enable vehicles to act as mobile nodes that can fetch,share,and disseminate information about vehicle safety,emergency events,warning messages,and passenger infotainment.However,the continuous dissemination of information fromvehicles and their one-hop neighbor nodes,Road Side Units(RSUs),and VANET infrastructures can lead to performance degradation of VANETs in the existing hostcentric IP-based network.Therefore,Information Centric Networks(ICN)are being explored as an alternative architecture for vehicular communication to achieve robust content distribution in highly mobile,dynamic,and errorprone domains.In ICN-based Vehicular-IoT networks,consumer mobility is implicitly supported,but producer mobility may result in redundant data transmission and caching inefficiency at intermediate vehicular nodes.This paper proposes an efficient redundant transmission control algorithm based on network coding to reduce data redundancy and accelerate the efficiency of information dissemination.The proposed protocol,called Network Cording Multiple Solutions Scheduling(NCMSS),is receiver-driven collaborative scheduling between requesters and information sources that uses a global parameter expectation deadline to effectively manage the transmission of encoded data packets and control the selection of information sources.Experimental results for the proposed NCMSS protocol is demonstrated to analyze the performance of ICN-vehicular-IoT networks in terms of caching,data retrieval delay,and end-to-end application throughput.The end-to-end throughput in proposed NCMSS is 22%higher(for 1024 byte data)than existing solutions whereas delay in NCMSS is reduced by 5%in comparison with existing solutions.

A Time Pattern-Based Intelligent Cache Optimization Policy on Korea Advanced Research Network

Data is growing quickly due to a significant increase in social media applications.Today,billions of people use an enormous amount of data to access the Internet.The backbone network experiences a substantial load as a result of an increase in users.Users in the same region or company frequently ask for similar material,especially on social media platforms.The subsequent request for the same content can be satisfied from the edge if stored in proximity to the user.Applications that require relatively low latency can use Content Delivery Network(CDN)technology to meet their requirements.An edge and the data center con-stitute the CDN architecture.To fulfill requests from the edge and minimize the impact on the network,the requested content can be buffered closer to the user device.Which content should be kept on the edge is the primary concern.The cache policy has been optimized using various conventional and unconventional methods,but they have yet to include the timestamp beside a video request.The 24-h content request pattern was obtained from publicly available datasets.The popularity of a video is influenced by the time of day,as shown by a time-based video profile.We present a cache optimization method based on a time-based pat-tern of requests.The problem is described as a cache hit ratio maximization pro-blem emphasizing a relevance score and machine learning model accuracy.A model predicts the video to be cached in the next time stamp,and the relevance score identifies the video to be removed from the cache.Afterwards,we gather the logs and generate the content requests using an extracted video request pattern.These logs are pre-processed to create a dataset divided into three-time slots per day.A Long short-term memory(LSTM)model is trained on this dataset to forecast the video at the next time interval.The proposed optimized caching policy is evaluated on our CDN architecture deployed on the Korean Advanced Research Network(KOREN)infrastructure.Our findings demonstrate how add-ing time-based request pat

The world today is experiencing an enormous increase in data traffic,coupled with demand for greater quality of experience(QoE)and performance.Increasing mobile traffic leads to congestion of backhaul networks.One promising solution to this problem is the mo bile edge network(MEN)and consequently mobile edge caching.In this paper,a survey of mobile edge caching using machine learning is explored.Even though a lot of work and sur veys have been conducted on mobile edge caching,our efforts in this paper are rather focused on the survey of machine learning based mobile edge caching.Issues affecting edge caching,such as caching entities,caching policies and caching algorithms,are discussed.The ma chine learning algorithms applied to edge caching are reviewed followed by a discussion on the challenges and future works in this field.This survey shows that edge caching can reduce delay and subsequently the backhaul traffic of the network;most caching is conducted at the small base stations(SBSs)and caching at unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs)is recently used to accommodate mobile users who dissociate from SBSs.This survey also demonstrates that machine learning approach is the state of the art and reinforcement learning is predominant.

Proposed caching Scheme for Optimizing Trade-off between Freshness and Energy Consumption in Name Data Networking Based IoT

Over the last few years, the Internet of Things (IoT) has become an omnipresent term. The IoT expands the existing common concepts, anytime and anyplace to the connectivity for anything. The proliferation in IoT offers opportunities but may also bear risks. A hitherto neglected aspect is the possible increase in power consumption as smart devices in IoT applications are expected to be reachable by other devices at all times. This implies that the device is consuming electrical energy even when it is not in use for its primary function. Many researchers’ communities have started addressing storage ability like cache memory of smart devices using the concept called—Named Data Networking (NDN) to achieve better energy efficient communication model. In NDN, memory or buffer overflow is the common challenge especially when internal memory of node exceeds its limit and data with highest degree of freshness may not be accommodated and entire scenarios behaves like a traditional network. In such case, Data caching is not performed by intermediate nodes to guarantee highest degree of freshness. On the periodical updates sent from data producers, it is exceedingly demanded that data consumers must get up to date information at cost of lease energy. Consequently, there is challenge in maintaining tradeoff between freshness energy consumption during Publisher-Subscriber interaction. In our work, we proposed the architecture to overcome cache strategy issue by Smart caching Algorithm for improvement in memory management and data freshness. The smart caching strategy updates the data at precise interval by keeping garbage data into consideration. It is also observed from experiment that data redundancy can be easily obtained by ignoring/dropping data packets for the information which is not of interest by other participating nodes in network, ultimately leading to optimizing tradeoff between freshness and energy required.

Performance of Distributed Energy Aware Routing (DEAR) Protocol with Cooperative caching for Wireless Sensor Networks

Considering Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) in today’s scenario, sending and receiving uninterrupted sensory data remains a challenge to achieve with minimal latency and energy consumption as low as possible. Energy consumption is exponentially growing in computing devices such as computers, embedded systems, portable devices, and wireless sensor networks. Extensive research has been in practice recently to minimize energy consumption without compromising the Quality of Service (QoS) that is to provide data to the requester node with minimum Delay and high Reliability. In this paper, a cooperative caching algorithm is used with the proposed Distributed Energy Aware Routing (DEAR) protocol that attempts to minimize energy consumption by reducing the packet overhead in the network and also providing the data to the requester with minimum delay by retrieving requested datum from the nearby caching node available in the vicinity of the requester or sink node. The simulation results clearly show that the energy consumption is less when the grid-based analytical model is used against the star/cluster based model while keeping the same necessary attributes.

Neighborhood-Based In-Network caching for Information-Centric Networks

The current Internet is based on host-centric networking, and a user needs to know the host address before reaching a data target in the network. The new architecture of information-centric networking (ICN) facilitates users to locate data targets by giving their data names without any information about host addresses. In-network caching is one of the prominent features in ICN, which allows network routers to cache data contents. In this paper, we emphasize the management of in-network cache storage, and this includes the mechanisms of cache replacement and cache replication. A new cost function is then proposed to evaluate each cache content and the least valuable content is evicted when cache is full. To increase cache utilization, a cooperative caching policy among neighboring routers is proposed. The proper network locations to cache data contents are also discussed in the paper. Experimental results show the superiority of the proposed caching policy than some traditional caching polices.

A caching Scheme for Session Setup in IMS Network

In IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), the session setup delay is a critical value for Quality of Service (QoS). The existing approaches to improve this metric depend on optimization of Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) message transmitting and signaling flows. Unfortunately, some service features are missing considered al-though they have been used widely in traditional 2G networks. This paper proposes a novel session setup scheme based on caching, upon the investigation of the performance of IMS session establishment. This mechanism involves cache based local routing policy and an adaptive caching algorithm, which can decrease call setup delay effectively as cached information in the terminating Serving-Call Session Control Function (S-CSCF) hit. The analytical model is deduced, as well as the delay and cost ratio functions are presented based on the model. Moreover, the analytical model is validated through the performance simulation in which the performance of the proposed novel method is evaluated against the basic session setup mechanism in terms of cost and delay.

The rapid development of artificial intelligence has pushed the Internet of Things(Io T)into a new stage.Facing with the explosive growth of data and the higher quality of service required by users,edge computing and caching are regarded as promising solutions.However,the resources in edge nodes(ENs)are not inexhaustible.In this paper,we propose an incentive-aware blockchain-assisted intelligent edge caching and computation offloading scheme for Io T,which is dedicated to providing a secure and intelligent solution for collaborative ENs in resource optimization and controls.Specifically,we jointly optimize offloading and caching decisions as well as computing and communication resources allocation to minimize the total cost for tasks completion in the EN.Furthermore,a blockchain incentive and contribution co-aware federated deep reinforcement learning algorithm is designed to solve this optimization problem.In this algorithm,we construct an incentive-aware blockchain-assisted collaboration mechanism which operates during local training,with the aim to strengthen the willingness of ENs to participate in collaboration with security guarantee.Meanwhile,a contribution-based federated aggregation method is developed,in which the aggregation weights of EN gradients are based on their contributions,thereby improving the training effect.Finally,compared with other baseline schemes,the numerical results prove that our scheme has an efficient optimization utility of resources with significant advantages in total cost reduction and caching performance.
