The steel bridge over Torrente Gravina is part of the new road S.S.655 "Bradanica",in the province of Matera.The choice of a steel tied arch was made to couple an efficient static behaviour,with a simple shape which well harmonises with the surrounding landscape.This paper describes the main features of the bridge,its static behaviour and its erection procedure.The analyses performed on the FEM model of the bridge indicated a satisfactory behaviour,both in terms of deflection and torsion of the deck and in terms of stability of the arch.This proved the correct torsional deck behaviour provided by "boxed-reticular-open section" guaranteed by triangulated trusses realized every 300 cm with hangers spacing equal to 600 cm.

Most equipment used today to screed and compacting concrete are not specially designed to give a dense and well compacted concrete cover. It has until now been a lack of suitable equipment to complete a re-vibration of fresh concrete placed in-situ in horizontal surfaces. Other production problems with conventional equipment’s include how to better consolidate thin toppings or overlays of concrete. In order to improve the adhesive of the mortar to the adjacent reinforcing bars and reduce voids under the bars caused by settlement in the concrete mass are other causes why a new compaction technique needed to be developed. Both re-vibration and additional consolidation of the upper part of a horizontal surface can now be done. Structures obtain a more durable surface if treated according to this method.

Located on the road which communicates the port and the airport of Barcelona,the New Bridge over the Llobregat River is a bow-string.This road is one of the main accesses of this city and also an axis of the principal roads connecting industrial and logistic areas associated to its port and all the industrial zones of the Bajo Llobregat.Arch and deck are supported by two reversed tripods,made by a longitudinal inclinated simple pier and a both longitudinal and transversal inclinated double pier that constituted inferior part of the rhombus which is completed by the double superior arch.Bridge presents a rectangular plant and its deck is materialised by a prestressed concrete beam 304 m long and 29 m wide.Both piers and arch divide the deck in five spans;the main and the central one of 104 m long,the adjacent ones of 55 m,and the lateral ones of 42 and 48 m.
