We report the genetic linkage map of Jian carp(C yprinus carpio var. Jian). An F1 population comprising 94 Jian carp individuals was mapped using 254 microsatellite markers. The genetic map spanned 1 381.592 c M and comprised 44 linkage groups,with an average marker distance of 6.58 c M. We identified eight quantitative trait loci(QTLs) for body weight(BW) in seven linkage groups,explaining 12.6% to 17.3% of the phenotypic variance. Comparative mapping was performed between Jian carp and mirror carp( Cyprinus carpio L.),which both have 50 chromosomes. One hundred and ninety-eight Jian carp marker loci were found in common with the mirror carp map,with 186(93.94%) showing synteny. All 44 Jian carp linkage groups could be one-to-one aligned to the 44 mirror carp linkage groups,mostly sharing two or more common loci. Three QTLs for BW in Jian carp were conserved in mirror carp. QTL comparison suggested that the QTL confidence interval in mirror carp was more precise than the homologous interval in Jian carp,which was contained within the QTL interval in Jian carp. The syntenic relationship and consensus QTLs between the two varieties provide a foundation for genomic research and genetic breeding in common carp.

Polychaete Neanthes japonica is a species geographically specific in China and Japan with important scientific implication and commercial value. In this study, the relations of body weight, salinity and temperature to oxygen consumption and ammonia excretion of N. japonica were determined. Three different groups in body weight （large： 2.34±0.36 g, middle： 1.50±0.21 g and small： 0.62±0.12 g） were set for all experiments. Results show that the body weight is negatively related to the rates of oxygen consumption and ammonia excretion; and the relationship is significant. The oxygen consumption and ammonia excretion at 24℃ decreased at salinity from 5 to 30 and increased above 30, indicating that both lower and higher salinity are adverse and certain degree of salinity stress is necessary for enhancing the energy demand. At salinity 30, rising temperature from 18℃ to 30℃, the oxygen consumption increased before 27℃ and then decreased. However, the relation of ammonia excretion and temperature seems more complex. Two-way ANOVA shows that salinity, temperature and body weight all have a significant effect on the oxygen consumption and ammonia excretion of the worm. Moreover, interaction between salinity/temperature and body weight is also significant. O：N （oxygen/nitrogen） ratio varies greatly in this case from 5.97 to 463.22, indicating that N. japonica can regulate the type of metabolic substrate against environment changes.

Ammonia,toxic to aquaculture organisms,represents a potential problem in aquaculture systems,and the situation is exacerbated in closed and intensive shrimp farming operations,expecially for Litopenaeus *** the potential for the genetic improvement of resistance to ammonia in *** requires knowledge of the genetic parameters of this *** heritability of resistance to ammonia was estimated using two descriptors in the present study:the survival time(ST) and the survival status at half lethal time(SS_(50)) for each individual under high ammonia *** heritability of ST and SS_(50) were low(0.154 4±0.044 6 and 0.147 5±0.040 0,respectively),but they were both significantly different from zero(P0.05),suggesting that ST and SS_(50) could be used as suitable indicators for resistance to *** were also positive phenotypic and genetic correlation between resistance to ammonia and body weight,which means that resistance to ammonia can be enhanced by the improvement of husbandry practices that increase the body *** results from the present study suggest that the selection for higher body weight does not have any negative consequences for resistance to *** addition to quantitative genetics,tools from molecular genetics can be applied to selective breeding programs to improve the efficiency of selection for traits with low heritability.

The geomagnetic field(GMF)is well documented for its essential role as a cue used in animal orientation or *** evidence indicates that the absence of GMF(mimicked by the near-zero magnetic field,NZMF)can trigger stress-like responses such as reduced body weight,as we have previously shown in the brown planthopper,Nilaparvata *** this study,we found that consistent with the significantly decreased body weight of newly emerged female(—14.67%)and male(—13.17%)adult ***,the duration of the phloem ingestion feeding waveform was significantly reduced by 32.02%in 5th instar nymphs reared under the NZMF versus ***,5th instar nymphs that exhibited reduced feeding had significantly higher glucose levels(+16.98%and+20.05%;24 h and 48 h after molting),which are associated with food aversion,and expression patterns of their appetite-related neuropeptide genes(neuropeptide F,dow regulated overall;short neuropeptide F,dowregulated overall;adipokinetic hormone up-regulated overall;and adipokinetic hormone receptor,down-regulated overall)were also altered under the absence of GMF in a manner consistent with diminishing ***,the expressions of the potential magnetosensor croptochromes(Crys)were found significantly altered under the absence of GMF,indicating the likely upstream signaling of the Cry-mediated magnetoreception *** findings support the hypothesis that strong changes in GMF intensity can reduce adult body weight through affecting insect feeding behavior and underlying regulatory processes including appetite *** results highlight that GMF could be necessary for the maintenanee of energy homeostasis in insects.

The inability of Fenneropenaeus chinensis to tolerate low temperatures is of major economic concern in temperate climates,as it reduces their growing season and leads to over-winter *** this study,the heritability of body weight under low grow-out temperature and cold tolerance in *** were first investigated and estimated using 88 ful-sib families,which might provide crucial information in Chinese fleshy prawn breeding *** heritability for body weight under suitable and low temperature of *** were both moderate（0.158 0±0.307 5 and 0.132 0±0.026 9 respectively）;the large coefficient of variation（approximately 21%） and moderate estimate of heritability for body weight indicated substantial potential for selective *** heritability estimate for cold tolerance was low（0.019 2±0.023 5）,and showed no significant differences from zero（P〉0.05）.A weak genetic correlation between cold tolerance and body weight was also estimated in the present study,also showing no significant differences from zero（P〉0.05）.Thus,more research needs to be conducted on the more accurate heritability estimate of cold tolerance and genetic correlations between traits in *** to further improve the achievement of breeding goals.

So far,there has been no safe and convenient method to weigh the largeﬁerce animals,like Amur *** address this problem,we built models to predict the body weight of Amur tigers based on the fact that body weight is proportional to body measurements or *** the method of body measurements,we extracted the body measurements from 4 different kinds of the lateral body image of tigers,that is,total lateral image,central lateral image,ellipseﬁtting image,and rectangleﬁtting image,and then we respectively used artiﬁcial neural network(ANN)and power regression model to analyze the predictive relationships between body weight and body *** results demonstrated that,among all ANN models,the model built with rectangleﬁtting image had the smallest mean square ***,we screened power regression models which had the smallest Akakai information criteria(AIC).In addition,using the method of age,weﬁtted nonlinear regression models for the relationship between body weight and age and found that,for male tigers,logistic model had the smallest *** female tigers,Gompertz model had the smallest ***,this study could be applied to estimate body weight of captive,or even wild,Amur tigers safely and conveniently,helping to monitor individual health and growth of the Amur tiger populations.

The relationship between microsatellite polymorphism and body weight of captive bred Chinese sea cucumber Apostichopus japonicus was investigated in two local populations in Dalian. Among ten loci discovered, nine show changes except for AJ07 loci. Seven loci were found highly polymorphic in both populations. For each locus in two populations, the average number of alleles is 6.428 6 and 6.285 7, the average observed heterozygosity at 0.225 7 and 0.245 9, the expected heterozygosity at 0.776 8 and 0.748 8, the polymorphism information content (PIC) at 0.709 2 and 0.674 6, respectively. Further analysis show significant correlation between A. japonicus body weight and occurrence markers AJ02 and AJ04. The findings of the relation may be helpful for molecular breeding, as well as the marker-assisted selection of sea cucumbers.

The objective of this study was to estimate genetic parameters of body width(BW)to body length(BL)ratio(BW/BL)and of body weight traits(BWT)in turbot,and to elucidate the genetic mechanism of the two traits during ontogeny by dynamic genetic *** 3 to 27 months,BW,BL and BWT of each communally stocked fish were measured every 3 *** BW/BL ratio was measured at different sampling ages.A twotrait animal model was used for genetic evaluation of *** results showed that the heritability values of BW/BL ratio ranged from 0.2168 to 0.3148,corresponding to moderate *** BWT heritability values ranged from 0.2702 to 0.3479 corresponding to moderate *** heritability of BW/BL ratio was lower than that of BWT,except at 3 months of *** correlation between BW/BL ratio and BWT decreased throughout the measurement *** correlations were higher than the phenotypic *** current results for estimating genetic parameters demonstrate that the BW/BL ratio could be used as a phenotypic marker of fast-growing turbot,and the BW/BL ratio and BWT could be improved simultaneously through selective breeding.
