Extreme single-excitation subradiance from two-band bloch oscillations in atomic arrays

Atomic arrays provide an important quantum optical platform with photon-mediated dipole–dipole interactions that can be engineered to realize key applications in quantum information processing.A major obstacle for such applications is the fast decay of the excited *** controlling two-band bloch oscillations of single excitation in an atomic array under an external magnetic field,here we show that exotic subradiance can be realized and maintained with orders of magnitude longer than the spontaneous decay time in atomic arrays with the finite *** key finding is to show a way for preventing the wavepacket of excited states scattering into the dissipative zone inside the free space light cone,which therefore leads to the excitation staying at a subradiant state for an extremely long decay *** show that such operation can be achieved by introducing a spatially linear potential from the external magnetic field in the atomic arrays and then manipulating interconnected two-band bloch oscillations along opposite *** results also point out the possibility of controllable switching between superradiant and subradiant states,which leads to potential applications in quantum storage.

Visual observation of photonic Floquet–bloch oscillations

bloch oscillations(BOs),an important transport phenomenon,have been studied extensively in static systems but remain mysterious in Floquet ***,by harnessing notions from photonic analogy,we propose a generalization of the existing BOs in photonic Floquet lattices,namely the“photonic Floquet–bloch oscillations”,which refer to rescaled photonic bloch oscillations with a period of extended least common multiple of the modulation period and the bloch oscillation ***,we report the first visual observation of such photonic Floquet–bloch oscillations(FBOs)by employing waveguide fluorescence *** significantly,the FBOs surpass the existing BOs in Floquet systems and exhibit exotic properties on their own,including fractal spectrum and fractional Floquet *** new transport mechanism offers an intriguing method of wave manipulation that may contribute to rapidly developing fields in photonics,condensed matter physics,and quantum physics.

On-chip sorting of orbital angular momentum beams using bloch surface wave structures

Owing to their unique optical properties and new degrees of freedom,orbital angular momentum(OAM)beams have been applied in various *** of the topological charges(TCs)of OAM beams is the key step for their ***,on-chip sorting of OAM beams with large TCs still remains a *** this paper,bloch surface wave(BSW)structures with five semi-ring shaped nanoslits are modeled.A spatial separation of 135 nm on the chip is obtained between two neighboring OAM *** beams with TCs up to 35 can be successfully sorted by the BSW structures,which is much larger than that using metallic structures(only seven).BSW structures exhibit better OAM sorting performances than metallic *** systematically show how the lower attenuation of BSW structures leads to far superior separation ability compared to surface plasmons propagating on metallic *** addition,sorting of two OAM beams with different TCs simultaneously can be achieved in this *** results reveal that BSW structures should be an excellent solution for OAM sorting with large TCs,which is beneficial for applications in integrated on-chip devices and optical communications.

Optical topologicallattices of bloch-type skyrmion and meron topologies

Optical skyrmions, quasiparticles that are characterized by the topologically nontrivial vectorial textures of optical parameters such as the electromagnetic field, Stokes parameters, and spin angular momentum, have aroused great attention recently. New dimensions for optical information processing, transfer, and storage have become possible, and developing multiple schemes for manipulating the topological states of skyrmions, thus, is *** we propose an approach toward achieving dynamic modulation of skyrmions via changing the field symmetry and adding chirality. We demonstrate that field symmetry governs the skyrmionic transformation between skyrmions and merons, whereas material chirality modulates the twist degree of fields and spins and takes control of the Néel-type–bloch-type skyrmionic transition. Remarkably, the enantioselective twist of skyrmions and merons results from the longitudinal spin arising from the chirality-induced splitting of the hyperboloid in the momentum space. Our investigation, therefore, acts to enrich the portfolio of optical quasiparticles. The chiral route to topological state transitions will deepen our understanding of light–matter interaction and pave the way for chiral sensing, optical tweezers, and topological phase transitions in quantum matter.

In pursuit of efficient high-order harmonic conversion in semiconductor devices,modeling insights into the complex interplay among ultrafast microscopic electron–hole dynamics,nonlinear pulse propagation,and field confinement in nanostructured materials are urgently ***,a self-consistent approach coupling semiconductor bloch and Maxwell equations is applied to compute transmission and reflection high-order harmonic spectra for finite slab and sub-wavelength nanoparticle *** increase in the generated high harmonics by several orders of magnitude is predicted for gallium arsenide nanoparticles with a size maximizing the magnetic dipole *** as a conceptual and predictive tool for ultrafast spatiotemporal nonlinear optical responses of nanostructures with arbitrary geometry,our approach is anticipated to deliver new strategies for optimal harmonic manipulation in semiconductor metadevices.

bloch theorem for the evolution of states in a cyclic quantum system and a new type of quantum phases

It is found that in a quantum system with cyclic Hamiltonian the time-dependent Schrodinger equation admits the bloch type solutions which have the form of bloch function with respect to the time. These solutions constitute an orthonormal basis of the solution space and lead to a new type of quantum phases. The new phases, called bloch phases by the authors, are the special Aharonov-Anandan phases, and reduce to the Berry phases under the adiabatic approximation if the degeneracy of instantaneous eigen-energy is time-independent. The above conclusions are proved and calculation for the evolution of spin magnetic moments in a magnetic field precessing with constant angular velocity is exemplified.

Spatiotemporal bloch states of a spin–orbit coupled Bose–Einstein condensate in an optical lattice

We study the spatiotemporal bloch states of a high-frequency driven two-component Bose–Einstein condensate(BEC)with spin–orbit coupling(SOC) in an optical lattice. By adopting the rotating-wave approximation(RWA) and applying an exact trial-solution to the corresponding quasistationary system, we establish a different method for tuning SOC via external field such that the existence conditions of the exact particular solutions are fitted. Several novel features related to the exact states are demonstrated; for example, SOC leads to spin–motion entanglement for the spatiotemporal bloch states, SOC increases the population imbalance of the two-component BEC, and SOC can be applied to manipulate the stable atomic flow which is conducive to control quantum transport of the BEC for different application purposes.
