Solar and biomass are both renewable energy *** biomass as fuel is becoming more and more attractive after governments increase the tariff for the electricity from the renewable *** the costs of power from a biomass power generation plant depend greatly on the availability and quality of the biomass *** commercialization of solar alone thermal power generation is hindered by its high initial investment and low thermal *** this paper,a concept of integrating solar into a biomass power generation system is put *** the system the oil heated by a parabolic trough solar field is used to replace the extraction steam to preheat the feed water(entering a biomass boiler) and the previous extraction steam thus saved can continue to do work in the lower stages of *** performance of the hybrid system with different replacements is analyzed and compared through two typical solar aided biomass generating *** results show that the integration not only reduces the consumption of biomass fuel(at the same generation capacity) but is also proved to be an efficient way to convert solar thermal energy into *** results also show that with the same solar aperture area,the higher the grade of the replaced extraction steam,the better the thermal performance and economy.

The role of biomass energy in a 100%renewable energy system for Akita prefecture,Japan

This study aims to add the biomass power to the 100%renewable energy system for Akita prefecture in the previous study,and to analyze the energy cost and availability of each *** was assumed that the onshore wind power potential would be installed,and the target area was *** heat and transportation demand were supplied using renewable electricity and carbon free *** renewable energies and electricity demand were analyzed,and the surplus electricity amount was *** the electricity demand cannot meet renewable energy,the shortage was supplied by *** scenarios were considered such as“no biomass”scenario that the biomass power was not installed,“supply shortage”scenario that the biomass power operated when the electricity demand could not meet other renewable energy,and“baseload”scenario that the biomass power operated *** a result,although installed biomass power capacity was much smaller than installed wind power,the biomass power reduced the required battery capacity and increased its *** energy costs of all demand sector in“baseload”scenario were smaller than“no biomass”scenario.

Incineration of Municipal Sewage Sludge in a Fluidized Bed Reactor

In the present study reduction of nitrogen oxides using reburning technology, during combustion of sewage sludge (fuel I) and the mixture of sewage sludge, wasted bleaching earth and CaO (fuel II), was carried out. The experimental works were conducted in a laboratory-scale fluidized bed reactor (power up to 10 kW) with application of two types of beds: chemically inert bed (sand) and chemically active bed (CaO). The second combustion (reburning) zone in the reactor was formed by dosing into an area above the bed, additional gaseous fuel (propane). Obtained reduction in emissions of nitrogen oxides in both types of beds was at a level 70% - 79%. Additionally bed of CaO has the desulfurizing effect and also reduces the CO concentration in the exhaust fumes. A significant drawback of active bed is the adverse effect on increase of the primary NO which enters the second combustion zone. The result of this fact is higher NOx emission during combustion of the same fuel in bed of CaO in comparison to the combustion of this fuel in the sand bed, when the same maximum degree of reduction of NOx will be obtained for both types of beds.
