Bio-ceramic filter(BF) and moving-bed biofilm reactor(MBBR) were used for biological pretreatment of Yellow River water in this study. The BF only had slight advantage over MBBR for TOC and ammonia removal. However, like UV_ 254 , the average removal rate of THMFP in the BF was much higher than that in the MBBR. UV_ 254 removal did not show obvious correlation with trihalomethane formation potential(THMFP) removal. Hexachlorocyclohexane could be effectively removed in both BF and MBBR. As for diatom and cyanobateria removal the MBBR had better performance than the BF, which was contrary to the average chlorophyll-a(Chl-a) removal rate. The proposal was made in this study that biological flocculation and sedimentation of sloughed biofilm should play a more important role on algae removal in the MBBR than in the BF. The BF and MBBR could effectively remove microcystins. Moreover, MBBR could be a promising technology for biological pretreatment.

biological pretreatment of corn stover by solid state fermentation of Phanerochaete chrysosporium

biological pretreatment is a promising way to overcome the biorecalcitrance of cleaving the super- molecular structure of lignocellulose by lignin degrading enzymes from microorganisms. Solid state fermentation of corn stover with the white-rot fungus Phanerochaete chrysosporium was carried out and the efficiency of this pretreatment was evaluated. The enzymatic hydrolysis yield reached a maximum when the corn stover was biologically pretreated for nine days, and the hydrolysis yield decreased sharply if the solid state fermentation was carried out for more than nine days. A possible explanation for this sharp decrease is that not only the lignin degrading enzymes （LiP and MnP） were secreted, but also other metabolites, which were toxic or fatal to the hydrolysis enzymes resulting in the lower hydrolysis yield were generated during the prolonged period of biopretreatment. These results are usefuI to help determine the optimal timing and to understand the lignin structure and degradation mechanism in biological pretreatment processes.

Optimization of fermentation factors to enhance rice straw degradation ability using a microbial consortium LZF-12

biological pretreatment has broad application prospects in agricultural waste treatment because of its economic benefits,environmental protection and energy saving *** this study,a microbial consortium LZF-12 was applied for a biological pretreatment to degrade rice *** experiments were performed under hydrolysis conditions by using the method of Box-Behnken factorial design(BBD).The results showed that the model multiple correlation coefficient R2 was 0.9816,and the effects of three factors on the degradation of rice straw of LZF-12 as descending order were the initial rice content,chicken manure content,and initial pH *** interaction between straw concentration,chicken manure concentration,and initial pH value had significant effects on the degradation of a microbial *** the optimum conditions of 0.86%rice straw,0.5%chicken manure and the initial pH value of 7.0,the degradation rate of rice straw reached 72.4%.There is only a small difference of 0.55%between the experimental value and predicted value from BBD ***,it is feasible for the established model due to the consistent results between the prediction and experimental *** microbial consortium LZF-12 has high cellulase enzyme activities and degradation ability over a wide range of temperature and pH value,indicating that it has a good development potential and application prospects in waste biodegradation and biomass energy production.
